Our overall experience was excellent & the location itself was incredible! The lagoon water in front of our OWB was very calm (compared to another 5-star property we also stayed at) and quiet which made some of our days laying out on our pool floats relaxing and even more enjoyable. The views & hotel grounds are beautiful, the room accommodation spacious, comfortable, very well maintained and clean. The outdoor deck of the villas themselves aren’t as private as I expected so I’d recommend requesting a villa further down near the end. The service and hospitality for the most part were excellent and Assistant Front Office Manager Jennifer helped ensure our honeymoon stay was amazing and was consistently considerate, hospitable, proactive and professional when helping to resolve an initial issue upon arrival. She and her direct staff who assisted us throughout our stay, and the GM Charles who we also met, were all wonderful and demonstrated excellent hospitality that aligned well with our expectations. The team went above and beyond for us (e.g. leis and delicious vanilla iced tea upon arrival, a flower crown for me prior to our private gourmet dinner on the beach, they’d be waiting with the cart at the dock when our ferry from the main island arrived back to take us to our room) and we are forever grateful for what was an unforgettable experience and invaluable week in one of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world! The Sands Restaurant was excellent for dinner, so much so I believe we ate their 3 of the 5 nights. Although we were very disappointed not all of the restaurants on property were open during our stay but understood due to the circumstances with the pandemic. The breakfast at Reef Restaurant was good but the service itself could be improved, as we got the impression it may have been related to it being understaffed and technical issues with the tablets used to take orders, since we ran into some delays and incorrect orders a few mornings which honestly wasn’t a big deal since we were on vacation mode but not what you’d expect from a 5-star. We did do the private dinner on the beach for the final night of our honeymoon which was incredible and we'd highly recommend! If the fine dining restaurant was open we probably wouldn't have thought to book this but are very happy we did! All the COVID-safety protocols IHG Thalasso had in place helped make us feel comfortable, kept exceptionally clean, all staff in masks and guests consistently adhering to mask wearing in public areas (took off when seated or by the pool/beach socially distant etc.), hand sanitizer stations etc. We take COVID precautions more seriously than most (as we unfortunately were very sick with the virus in April and had immediate family in the ICU with severe illness from it) and believe IHG Thalasso is doing a really great job with the transition. If you are an “anti-masker” from the US, please abide by the rules out of respect to other guests and staff, or stay home. However only suggestion for improvement as it relates to COVID-related precautions, would be for hotel to make a greater effort to reduce capacity on the airport transfer, and implement protocol to ensure a villa is empty for at least 24 hours after the previous guest has departed to minimize the risk of any airborne transmission of the virus, consistent with another 5-star property. Also the QR code use wasn’t as practical when we needed to pull up a menu or activity list in our room. They send the QR codes as an email attachment but we couldn’t scan it from the same device we were using to access the email. It’d be easier if it was available on the room TV or even in a plastic case in the room (wiped down after departure). Overall, our main recommendation for improvement is related to more consistent communication and expectations among different members of hotel management, the hotel concierge and IHG reservations. For example we planned our 1 night over to the Main Island for dinner based on the limited ferry times available and so we could first stop to pick something up at the supermarket. However hotel concierge told us the supermarket was open until 7:30pm that evening, without knowing (or letting us know) on Sundays it closed at 6pm & they don’t sell alcohol on Sundays. The ferry times available are also limited and at $60 per couple round trip, therefore it’s pretty expensive to leave the hotel much. The ferry times also weren’t as practical as expected so it limited some initial plans (e.g. going to Bloody Marys for the day). I also think as a courtesy they should waive or reduce the RT cost for the time being (at least in the evening for dinner, for stays longer than 3 nights) since IHG Thalasso only has 1 restaurant open on property. We are IHG Ambassador Club members which guarantees you a free upgrade upon arrival, (also Spire Elite status) but it isn’t clear when we booked the reservation that if you book the Diamond Otemanu Overwater villa you’re actually going to be wasting money since the Pool rooms at the next price level aren’t eligible for the upgrade. Also, all the villas seem to have some kind of view of the Otemanu, so in retrospect I think we would’ve been just as happy staying in the Diamond category which is further down and a little more private. Although they seem to be working through the logistics around some new changes they always made a sincere and significant effort to ensure our stay was excellent!! I was referred to IHG Thalasso by my parents, who stayed a decade prior for their 25 anniversary, and my sister/brother-in-law, who visited in 2017 for their honeymoon as well and can now share the same glowing reviews and experience of what had been one of the best weeks and trips of our lives. Thanks for helping make our honeymoon so special and look forward to our return some day! :)

Just returned from a one week vacation at this incredible resort. The grounds and location are amazing. The property is immaculately maintained and filled with lush landscaping and lots of places to enjoy the scenery. The location has an amazing view of the mountain and rooms are situated across a spectacular lagoon with some of the clearest sparkling turquoise water. Rooms are spacious and all are overwater. We loved that the lagoon is only around 5 feet deep and massive so you can stand while enjoying the water. When requesting a room make sure to not get a room the furthest left row. These would likely have the least or most obstructed view of the mountain. The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly. Our package was half board and included breakfast and dinner. This was a smart choice and I highly recommend. In addition, I suggest packing snacks and liquor wine (up to 2 bottles per person). Bora Bora is expensive, and rightfully so, it’s far and exclusive. We booked through Costco and it saved us thousands of dollars. Plus, they made this trip seamless and stress free.

This trip has been exactly what I needed and exceeded any expectations. The insanity of our world, the craziness of Covid and a 44,000 acre forest fire that burned unabated up to my property line had me in a bad place. On Tuesday of last week I decided we needed an escape . I quickly found out that French Polynesia didn't have a travel restriction. About a half hour on the computer reviled that this was a good choice in Bora Bora. In the pursuing 48 hours till we left the biggest challenge was getting a Molecular Covid 19 test. We arrived in Tahiti Thursday night and stayed at the Intercontinental Tahiti. I usually stay at Marriott but in Bora Bora this seemed like the place to be. Not familiar with the IHG hotels I read the web site. They offered a $200 deal to buy Ambassador level status. I did it. The two nights in Tahiti more then paid it back alone. I had reserved a water view room but my status gave me an upgrade to over the water Bungalow AND $190 credit towards food which we used. Arriving in Bora Bora: yes the transfer to the resort was $70 a person. But, lets just state what should be obvious. This kind of travel isn't for the penny pinchers. Get over it or go camping at KOA's. I spent the first 35 years of my life traveling the world on a shoestring, now its time for a different experience. The service here is 100% top. My purchased status gave me yet another upgrade. To speak about rooms. All the different rooms are the same size and layout. The price points are for which view you wish. All are good we got the coolest Mountain View and it is nice. Our room is the Diamond Otemanu Overwater Villa. There are two other variables. Some rooms have a small pool on the deck. Yes that is cool but you have steps to a way way cooler pool called the Lagoon. I guess if you had small kids it might be a consideration. The one other room option, is there are Four 3000 sqf Bungalows. They have two master suites and The nice Mountain View. There are so many incredible activities We are going to dive one day, snorkel with Humpbacks tomorrow swim with sharks and rays, hike the trail to the top of Otemanu. and spend lots of time sitting on our private deck. Yes it's truly private. The food has been 9/10 so far. And that is rating it along with restaurants in the city that have no logistical concerns. While typing this I saw a small ray swim by the deck, I quickly jumped in with mask and snorkel and watched it dig up and eat something 3 feet below me. We took 15min boat to the main island, rented a scooter and circumnavigated the Island. The conclusion upon seeing the other resorts was that our hurried decision to stay here was the correct one. We got a couple massage at the spa, it was cool you look down through the face hole in the massage table and see fish and coral through the glass floor. We also got a massage on the island with Latitude Massage Bora Bora. I think her skill level is superior to the spa here but more important it's fun to go engage and support the locals.

I was expecting big things from the Intercontinental, unfortunately they didn't deliver. I stayed for 4 nights, first night was an Emerald Overwater villa, 2nd and 3rd was the Brando suite and the last night was the Emerald again. Arrival in Bora Bora was efficient, once we'd collected the bags we were escorted to the IC boat (transfer is pricey) which took about 20 mins to get to the resort. Once we arrived we were greeted with a lei and a vanilla tea. There was no mention/acknowledgement of me being a Spire Ambassador which was a bit unusual. Shortly afterwards we were driven to the room, again there was no welcome basket/gifts which you usually get for being an Ambassador. The room was excellent, large living area, big balcony, great bedroom with a wonderful view and the bathroom was impressive. However, the TV channels were all in French, not usually an issue if you're at such a place but if everything closes at 10 it means there isn't much to do in the evenings. They were a bit stingy on the coffee as well, 4 pods, of which 2 of them were decaf. 2nd and 3rd nights were in the Brando Suite, which was spectacular, really impressive. However, it seems there was some confusion over what was included and what was not. The minibar was empty so I called up to see what was going on. The first person told me they would deliver what I wanted but there was a cost, only the delivery fee would be waved. Well, that's not what it says on the website, eventually drinks were delivered at no extra cost. We had breakfast delivered on both mornings which was a nice touch, however this was soured by being charged for one of the mornings despite us agreeing to the upfront 50% off breakfast discount. Apparently this doesn't apply to the Brando suite... For the times we had breakfast at the restaurant, that was a bit chaotic, with Covid there was no buffet and it was ala carte. We had to ask for hot milk 3 times and they forgot a couple of items. The cocktails in the bar were very mediocre for the price and the happy hour was very late at 9pm, overall it lacked ambience. Finally, I booked a dive at the TopDive centre onsite, i'm a beginner but my mrs is Padi Open Water certified. The trip involved alot of waiting around as they did not have enough instructors for the people on the boat, the instructor (Delphine) didn't really pay me much attention whilst underwater and swam off infront on her own. Pretty dangerous... The Brando suite and the 4x IHG point promotion swayed me to the IC but it looks like they have messed the points i'm due, I only received 40k points from a 6K+ bill so now i'm having to hassle support to get this rectified. I used the Weekend Ambassador voucher to make the Brando suite cost slightly less painful but overall I wish i'd stayed at the Four Seasons. Finally, I had some questions after leaving the resort so I send a few emails. 3 infact, i've not had a response on any.

We booked through Lisa Corso at Tahiti Legends and we are so glad we did. Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort and Thalosso Spa was amazing! It's on of those places that looks just like the pictures. The staff was extremely helpful. The food was amazing. We were in heaven! Our overwater bungalow had a fantastic view of Mount Otemanu. No matter where we were at the resort, we were able to have a great view of the mountain. The pool is stunningly beautiful. We tried out the kayaks (for the first time ever) and that was fun. The concierge was super attentive with making sure all our tours were confirmed and all our questions were answered. We took the water taxi over to Intercontinental Le Moana for a day that worked out well. There were speakers in our overwater bungalow and we were able to play some Tahitian music while over looking the water and the mountain. It was just beautiful. Our bedroom had floor to ceiling window so we had the same view when we woke up. It just blows my mind how wonderful of a time we had. I can't say enough great things about this place. I highly recommend it!
