Detailed Reviews
We stayed three nights at cabin"C" that was 2 1/2 miles from downtown Talkeetna. The cabin was great and nicely appointed, very quiet (except for an occasional airplane) and comfortable. The only issues we had was the bedroom was upstairs and the only bathroom was downstairs, which although not a game changer, but did cause me to rate it a 4-stars rather then 5. Also, this cabin has no Wi-Fi so plan accordingly. We also found the only couch in the living are was sagging and VERY uncomfortable to sit on for an extended period of time. Because we are outdoor folks we wished that there was a table to go along with the two chairs on the front porch (we resorted to using our cooler as a makeshift table) which made it awkward to have a meal on, The property itself was, cleared, beautiful and nicely landscaped throughout. Our host Don was very outgoing, friendly and provided supplemental nightly entrainment managing his heavy equipment at his equipment shed.
P.S. The Chevy Caprice Estate station wagon in the shed is a nice curiosity and is well preserved.

Our neighbors recently visited Alaska and highly recommended the Denali Fireside. We were supposed to stay for one night, and ended up staying for three nights. We stayed in Cabin #5 which had an indoor fireplace, seating area and king size bed. The cabin also had a microwave, coffee maker and small refrigerator outside of the bathroom area. You really feel like you are experiencing Alaska in this property! There was even a beautiful bear rug in front of our bed in the cabin.
One of the highlights of our stay was interacting with the owner, Don. He was incredibly gracious and offered very helpful suggestions on dining and tour destinations in the Talkeetna area. The cabin was absolutely spotless, and Don was always more than willing to assist us in any way. This is a darling little twon that serves as a great launch-pad for many local tours, or a day trip to Denali National Park. When we return to Talkeetna, we will be staying at the Denali Fireside.

Hi SessaBocasconsin, thank you so much for your fantastic review! It makes all of the hard work that we do very rewarding! And thank you for pointing out that we have 5 star amenities and that we have real fireplaces to heat our accommodations rather than the noisy heater/air conditioning units that are in many hotels (the fireplace provides a steady heat and is much healthier than forced air) and we hoped that the fireplace and the “bear” rug would add to the feel of the real Alaska. You are so nice to put me into your review as being gracious and helpful. Makes me feel very humble. Thanks again!!!

Great Alaskan lodging! Don picked me up at the train station and gave me a little tour of Talkeetna before dropping me at my cabin. Cabin #2 is spacious with a comfy bed, living room area, , coffee pot, fridge, and tv. It is immaculate. I like that they request that guests remove their shoes before entering the cabin. Don was helpful with info about walking the area - don’t get too close to the river! - and where to eat. The place next door has a great breakfast. I was there only one night and wished it had been longer.

We enjoyed our visit here staying in one of the suites that had 2 queen beds for 2 nights. The room is very large with a microwave, coffee & tea basket and refrigerator. There is also a good size tv. We loved the easy walk into “downtown” Talkeetna. Talkeetna is an artsy community and that is reflected in the shops and food options. We also liked that we could walkover to K-2 for our glacier flight. The lodging is right off the main road so not quite what I pictured for cabins in Alaska. The railroad runs the last schedule of the day at around 11:00 pm but we were so tired from hiking we fell right back asleep. I wasn’t sure a stop in Talkeetna was a good choice when I was planning the trip but we were happy we stayed here and at the cabins. Last hint: cabin one - pull the hoop down on the faucet to get the shower working.

Don was an amazing host! So friendly and helpful. We arrived on the train and had no means of transportation so the location was perfect for walking from the train depot and to downtown Talkeetna. Don even offered us a quick ride to the Talkeetna Lodge to catch dinner. The rooms are clean, modern, and well kept. Highly recommend.

The Fireside Cabins was recommended to my husband and me by another local lodge owner. Now I can see why! The staff is friendly, professional, and helpful. Don, being a local resident for most of his life, is knowledgeable and helpful. The cabins are well maintained and each has a porch with a relaxing sliding bench. Cabin 5, where we stayed, faces the impressive Mt. Denali. If you are lucky, you will see the mountain from your front window. Inside, the cabin is roomy and CLEAN! The cabins are so well maintained that they look new. The “Rookie”, front desk/cabin cleaner is from Montenegro, is a great addition to the staff. We highly recommend Denali Fireside Cabins for your stay in Talkeetna.

Stayed one night in cabin #3 and was so pleased with everything. Don was very accommodating when we checked in and gave us ideas of places to see in town as well as restaurants to eat at. The unit was huge with two queen beds as well as sink separate from the toilet and tub. Everything was so clean. If we return to Talkeetna, we would stay there again. Close enough to center of town, yet far enough away to avoid the crowds.

Nice cabin, like new. Stayed in #4 which is in the same building as 2@3. Insulation not very good, hear talking, walking, flushing. Cabins 5 up are separate buildings, better. Ask. Problem is Talkeetna, there’s just not much there, including a real restaurant and its 18 miles up a spur. Pizza, burgers, appetizers and some salads and beer/cider is about it. We came in mid May, things just opening up, so short staffed, but this is really just a tourist trap type of town, like Cherokee, NC without the Cherokees. I thought it was on the road to Denali, but its not, just so you know.

Sorry that your experience in Talkeetna wasn’t very pleasant. Yes we had a late spring this year and the town didn’t open up until late in May. Some activities are still not open due to the mud and snow on the trails. And yes, we don’t have the big corporate franchises or big box stores here in Talkeetna. Everything is pretty much mon and pop. However the big corporations are starting to buy up a lot of the tourist businesses in the small towns in Alaska. Hopefully Talkeetna will be able to avoid that.

Only stayed one night at Denali Fireside Cabins & Suites, but wish it had been longer. Our family of 4 rented a suite and it was a darling cabin, spacious and clean. It's in a perfect location - walking distance to downtown Talkeetna, but far enough that you don't hear the downtown activity at night. Absolutely wonderful. Look forward to going back one day.

We arranged for Don to pick up up at the train station so we called him after we gathered our luggage. He arrived in a vintage station wagon and gave us a quick tour of the town before going to the individual or duplex log cabins. Each was cozy and very comfortable. He was very hospitable and helpful. I was glad the out-of-the-way place the railroad used was full. It was within walking distance to most places we wanted to go and the day tours picked us up and dropped us off because it was on the main road. I would definitely return or recommend this place.
