Travelers' Choice
Caribou Lodge Alaska is a remote wilderness lodge that is only accessible by small aircraft. Located on a remote lake in an amazing setting above tree-line in the Talkeetna Mountains just southeast Of Denali National Park, and a short flight from the famous little town of Talkeetna. We are closer to Mt. Denali than the park entrance or headquarters. Caribou Lodge is completely surrounded by Alaska's wild country. The Lodge offers a unique opportunity for guests to not only experience the awesome wilderness of Alaska, but to learn about living in it as well. Life in the Alaska wilderness is an adventure and an experience we enjoy sharing with our guests. Our family knows the land and wildlife very well and enjoy sharing it all with a limited number of guests. As a small and personal Alaska wilderness lodge, we are perhaps a Denali Park experience without crowds of people and tour buses. Since the lodge is located off the road system, we coordinate your flights to & from the lodge with a local air taxi service. If you are looking for a backcountry cabin near Denali, contact us for availability and more information, We offer multi day lodging, day trips, extended lodge/backpacking combo trips, all with guided hiking. All meals are included with your stay and your cabin is cozy, set up with a king size bed. A centrally located shower house, and two classic off the grid outhouses. A relaxed learning experience in the Alaskan bush. Come enjoy true Alaska wilderness.

A little slice of Heaven smack dab in the middle of nowhere! It was everything I hoped it was going to be, and then some! Our family of six took over the lodge for two nights and experienced life off the grid. We all unplugged (even our teenage sons!) and went hiking, picked wild blueberries, learned all about what it takes to live so remotely, kayaked and much more. We savored the silence, embraced the beauty and will cherish the memories for a lifetime. Joe, Zach and their entire families (even their kids) were the most gracious hosts. Their kids shared their toys with my kids and played so well with ours. The cabins were simple, clean and comfortable. The meals were delicious and plentiful. Joe even went very far out of his way to help accommodate a travel hiccup we realized after booking. Truly, if you’re looking for this type of experience, look no further! Well done guys, very well done!

My wife and I spent three amazing nights at Caribou Lodge, Alaska. Zac and Joe arranged a 45 minute flight to and from the lodge from Anchorage, avoiding having to rent a car and and driving to and from Talkeetna. With just three backcountry cabins, you have the lodge all to yourself, and a couple of other adventurous guests. It is tranquil, amazing, wild country, with daily hikes through the tundra lead by Joe or Zac. No roads or crowds anywhere in sight, and we saw a moose in the lake. It is the opposite of Denali National Park's crowds. The meals are fresh, healthy, and gourmet, eaten with the family in the main lodge. The strong, hot showers are welcome, after a long day hiking, and the outdoor bathrooms are spotless and fresh smelling. If you've ever wanted to live with Alaskan pioneers for a couple days, completely off the grid (except my A T& T cell phone worked perfectly), but with all of the amenities you could wish for (including a large, comfortable bed), Caribou Lodge is the perfect, reasonably priced, lodge. Highest Marks.

We had a great stay at the Caribou Lodge, from a sunny Camping trip, the amazing Food and Cookies and the welcoming nature of the hosts we loved every thing about it. Definitely the highlight of our Trip to Alaska… The Cabins are small and lovely and the main lodge with the whole family made it a welcoming surrounding to relax and get a digital detox. Our Guide Zac knew everything about the nature around the lodge and showed us increadible landscapes. I would definitely visit the lodge again if I came to Alaska again. P.S Hi Bo 👋🏼

Thank you for the kind words. I never thought I'd become a naturalist guide, but showing off Alaska and teaching our guests about all the flora is such a pleasure! Your family was amazing! If you ever visit us again we may have your brother in the kitchen making his own cookies just to save time!

This is a very remote and quiet place. If you love open air and nature this is a great place to be. The views of mount Denali are very impressive, as well as the hikes, which were not to extreme but definitely good hikes.

Mr. San Antone! The best cowboy hat to ever walk through our door! We're glad you folks made the trip out here, and listening to all your stories of life in Texas was very enjoyable. We're glad you enjoyed some elevation gain on these Alaska hikes, and got to take a break from worrying about snakes and scorpions in your hikin' boots. Your review is much appreciated! Come see us again....or we'll come visit you for some hog hunting.

Hi you two! Thanks so much for visiting us. The camping trips are always a good way to see what most guests don't get to experience. Tent camping is not for everyone, but I'm glad you had a good time. Thanks for helping us spot some wildlife as well! It was awesome having you.

Our group had an INCREDIBLE time exploring the Alaskan tundra at Caribou Lodge! Joe and Zac are so knowledgeable and engaging- they showed our group what living 'off-the-grid' in Alaska REALLY looks like. The tour was very informative, the lunch was great and the hosts- they're the BEST! Cannot recommend strongly enough- thanks Caribou lodge!

We stayed three days. Zac, Alyssa, Bonnie and their families treated us like family. Three wonderful home cooked meals were provided each day. We looked forward to meals every day. The evening meal always offered an enticing dessert. Zac led us on an invigorating hike every day. We had very comfortable beds in the cabin. There was no indoor plumbing to the cabins but the two outhouses were very close to the cabins as well as the shower house and all were immaculate. It was nice to unplug from phones and TV. We were flown in and out by floatplane which was really fun. It was all a great experience. We were lucky to get views of Denali every day.

My wife, daughter, and I stayed two nights in one of the cabins. The family owners were delightful and made our stay all the more memorable. We will truly miss them all. The food prepared by them each day was exemplary. There was no bathroom or electricity in our cabin; however, the cabin was well heated, clean, comfortable and cozy. The landscape and overall setting was sublime. We enjoyed the hiking, wildlife viewing, kayaking and good conversations with new friends. We highly recommend this location and experience!

Hey Dan, thank you so much for the review! Meeting your family was a real treat, and we're glad you got some much needed R&R here at our lodge. The crew works tirelessly around here to make everything at least seem sublime so our guests stress levels go way down. And thank you for the open invite to see y'all next time we head south. That means a lot!
