Caribou Lodge Alaska is a remote wilderness lodge that is only accessible by small aircraft. Located southeast Of Denali National Park, and a short flight from the famous town of Talkeetna. We are closer to Denali than the park entrance or headquarters. Caribou Lodge is completely surrounded by Alaska's wild country. The Lodge offers a unique opportunity for guests to not only experience the awesome wilderness, but to learn about living in it as well. Life in the Alaska wilderness is an adventure we enjoy sharing with our guests. As a small and personal Alaska wilderness lodge, we are a Denali Park experience without crowds of people and tour buses. We offer multi day cabin lodging, day trips, extended lodge/backpacking combo trips, all with guided hiking. All meals are included with your stay and your cabin is cozy, set up with a king size bed. A centrally located shower house, and two classic off the grid outhouses. Fly out to a real Alaska bush experience!

There is a reason Caribou Lodge is #1 on trip advisor, that is because they are the BEST! My parents and I spent 3 nights with Zac, Alyssa, Joe and Bonnie’s lovely family in the Talkeetna ranges. Zac took us on an epic camping adventure a few miles out from the lodging area. Zac was very knowledgeable on all things Alaska.. making for an enjoyable hike! Zac was sure to adjust the hiking level to meet my parents abilities and I would highly recommend their camping trips! In my opinion the camping trip is the best way to see as many of the amazing animals that the area has to offer. After our camping we got back to the lodge for an amazing sleep in their super comfortable and clean cabins… and best of all Alyssa and Bonnie’s amazing cooking! My parents and I went away from this trip all saying that was the best choice we made for our Alaskan travels. If you are reading this unsure whether or not to book Caribou Lodge, take this as your sign to book! It is an amazing experience. Thank you again Caribou Lodge and family!

Everything we strive to accomplish here as a family pays off when we read a review like this. It was such a pleasure to have you visit, and we are humbled by the kind review. I am glad you enjoyed the camping trip as well. After camping in one of our tents it makes the shower house, and cabins feel like the Plaza Hotel. I think it makes for a great combo experience for our guests. Thank you so much for picking Caribou Lodge during your visit to Alaska.

My wife and I spent three amazing nights at Caribou Lodge, Alaska. Zac and Joe arranged a 45 minute flight to and from the lodge from Anchorage, avoiding having to rent a car and and driving to and from Talkeetna. With just three backcountry cabins, you have the lodge all to yourself, and a couple of other adventurous guests. It is tranquil, amazing, wild country, with daily hikes through the tundra lead by Joe or Zac. No roads or crowds anywhere in sight, and we saw a moose in the lake. It is the opposite of Denali National Park's crowds. The meals are fresh, healthy, and gourmet, eaten with the family in the main lodge. The strong, hot showers are welcome, after a long day hiking, and the outdoor bathrooms are spotless and fresh smelling. If you've ever wanted to live with Alaskan pioneers for a couple days, completely off the grid (except my A T& T cell phone worked perfectly), but with all of the amenities you could wish for (including a large, comfortable bed), Caribou Lodge is the perfect, reasonably priced, lodge. Highest Marks.

Gary, thank you so much! You said you would leave a detailed review, and we really appreciate it. It's not everyone's "cup of tea" here, but getting adventurous folks away from the crowds is something we love doing. Taking those few that are looking for something different than the cookie cutter holiday. We are so glad we got to meet you and your lovely bride. Soak up some sun for us down there, and we hope to see you again.

Our stay at the Caribou lodge was a magnificent experience. Joe and Bonnie were gracious hosts providing us with delicious food, informative hikes, and good conversations in a pristine environment. This very secluded lodge in the Denali National Preserve is a special place for anyone wanting to experience the solitude and awe of our natural world.

My husband and I wanted to experience the kind of Alaska you wouldn’t see on a tour or on a cruise (which we were headed for the second week of our trip). This was exactly what we were looking for! Our trip started with a breath taking sea plane ride into the lodge which was an arial view of the beautiful Alaskan bush. It truly gave us an appreciation for how remote we were going to be! We were greeted by the whole gang on the dock: Zac and Alyssa and Bonnie and Joe and their kiddos in tow. Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful and made us so comfortable.
The cabins are large with very comfortable beds and fresh linens with adorable porches for sitting and looking at the lake. The outhouses were incredibly clean. The shower house was luxurious with great water pressure and hot water every night for showers.
The best part of our day was our hikes! Joe was our personal tour guide taking us out on full day hikes and pointing out wildlife, plants, and more along the way. He truly was an incredible guide to learn from and felt like our friend by then end of our stay from all of the hours he spent hiking with us!
The meals were like a restaurant but you got a homey feel getting to eat at a table with the other guests and your hosts which we loved. We loved learning about off the grid life style and how the inner working of their home ran. We also loved getting to know the family and the other guests! They even accommodated my dietary restrictions and made gluten free breads, cookies, you name it.
Overall- we are so glad we decided to stay 2 nights at Caribou- it is an experience we will never forget and will recommend to all of our friends!

It was a pleasure having you two visit! The whole idea of Caribou Lodge is the type of unique Alaska experience you will not find in the tourist traps, busses or ships. We're glad you were looking for something out of the ordinary. Sharing our lives, and stories with all our guests comes naturally since everyone who visits us sees our day-to-day lives as well as the visitor experience. It was so awesome of you both to help unload the large supply flight that came in the same day you arrived. We always appreciate the extra hands. Best regards from our family to yours!

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Caribou Lodge. Getting to the Lodge by float plane was already a great experience and we were immediately captivated by the beauty and wilderness that surrounded the Lodge.

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by the Bramante Family who made us feel welcome from the start. Zac took us on a hike, and we were lucky that it didn’t take too long before we saw a black bear from a safe distance and a Moose. Even though we got rained on, we enjoyed hiking through the tundra on remote Moose trails with nobody else in sight. Zac and his 10 ½ year old daughter Chloe shared their vast knowledge about the tundra, the (edible) plants and the wildlife with us. What a great experience. Each evening for dinner, we enjoyed a delicious home-cooked meal by Alyssa und Bonnie and sat down family-style with other guests. We really felt the warm hospitality of the two Bramante families.

The cabin we stayed in was clean, cozy and had everything to make our stay comfortable. We didn’t mind the toilet trips to a very clean outhouse and after a rainy hike we enjoyed a hot shower in the clean and spacious shower house. Getting up in the morning and stepping out onto the porch to soak in the amazing landscape surrounding the Lodge was just another highlight of our stay.

Our stay at the Caribou Lodge was truly an exceptional experience and we are very grateful that the Bramante Family shared their home (and puppy Piper) with us and gave us the opportunity to experience this remote and beautiful part of Alaska. We really hope to be back one of these days.

Mahalo again for an unforgettable experience and a hui hou!

Thank you, Christine! Chloe was excited to be mentioned in her first TripAdvisor review! :) she had fun guiding the hike with me, and you two made her feel special. We spent two nights at the beautiful Caribou Lodge during our Alaskan honeymoon in late August. It was perfection! We had leisurely mornings of kayaking on the glassy lake, drinking coffee by our cabin, and reading in the main lodge. We had gourmet meals cooked lovingly by Bonnie (we have even tried to copy her green bean dish once we got home!), and then went out for a hike in the afternoon. Joe told us more about the habitat and surrounding mountains than we could have ever learned on our own, and we took lots of stops for wild blueberries! The rest of the day was relaxing in our cabin or the main lodge after a hot shower, playing cards or reading. Total relaxation & rejuvenation! We truly felt welcomed into their family when we were there.

The bush plane experience getting to/from the cabin was truly once in a lifetime! I was quite nervous but Albert and Jason were such experienced and competent pilots, they put me at ease and it turned into one of my favorite and most memorable parts of the trip. I got some great pictures from up in the air!

We visited caribou lodge for my husband’s birthday. It was the best weekend. This place is magical, we loved it. We originally planned to stay there for two nights but due to weather we had to stay one more night (lucky us!) but Zac and Alyssa were so great they made everything so comfortable.
The cabin has great view, it’s so clean and tidy. The food was delicious and we greatly appreciate that they cook vegetarian meals for us, freshly baked bread and cookies were amazing and I still remember those mouthwatering desserts! Zac was a great guide, he took us to two beautiful hikes and we got to see moose and black bears. We did kayaking in the evening which was very beautiful and peaceful.
And how can we forget Howie, he the best host, he used to hangout with us at lodge. We enjoyed our evenings with him. Pippin is a sweetheart too.
It is an authentic Alaska experience. It was very peaceful and beautiful, just what we needed. We would really like to go back some day.
And lastly sorry Zack for late review but your place is so great that we couldn’t even put it into words!

- Khyati and Vivek

We stayed at Caribou Lodge for 3 days in September 2022, and it was definitely the best part of our Alaska trip. The float plane gives you the first glimpse of this beautiful, pristine property. It’s a great place for unplugging to do some hiking, kayaking, blueberry picking, reading, animal watching, etc. We saw lots of birds, a beaver, and a moose!

The Bramante’s are just so great—not only are they knowledgeable about Alaska and living off the grid, but I left feeling like they were my family too. Great people; great memories!

The food was amazing. The cabin was so cozy. I really hope to make it back in the future. Before you go… make sure you check out their YouTube page!

We had a great stay at the Caribou Lodge, from a sunny Camping trip, the amazing Food and Cookies and the welcoming nature of the hosts we loved every thing about it. Definitely the highlight of our Trip to Alaska…
The Cabins are small and lovely and the main lodge with the whole family made it a welcoming surrounding to relax and get a digital detox. Our Guide Zac knew everything about the nature around the lodge and showed us increadible landscapes.
I would definitely visit the lodge again if I came to Alaska again.

Thank you for the kind words. I never thought I'd become a naturalist guide, but showing off Alaska and teaching our guests about all the flora is such a pleasure! Your family was amazing! If you ever visit us again we may have your brother in the kitchen making his own cookies just to save time!

The outhouses are about 50 feet behind the cabins. A "nighttime run" is never fun, but it's not very far at all. Guests are welcome to smoke on their cabin decks, but not inside the cabins. We can get you an ash tray to keep during your visit.

Do cabins have electricity?
Answer from Zac B
Alaska42 contributions1 helpful vote
No. The cabins and shower house do not have their own electricity. All electronics can be charged in the day lodge where we have solar and generator power. If a CPAP or BiPAP machine is needed we charge a little extra to run the generator through the night. Or please consider bringing your battery operated unit. We are happy to charge it during the day.
