Just awesome. Spent a week in Ohakune for work and based ourselves out of the Powderhorn - good business support and great facilities. Food at the in-house restaurant (Powderkeg) was amazing. Good (but not too complex) menu, with friendly service. Staff went out of their way to help with various transport issues too. Fantastic selection of beers and ciders available,... More

We've been running a week long workshop at the Powderhorn in Ohakune and the service and experience has been nothing but exceptional. Annie has been our primary contact throughout the five days and she's gone above and beyond to make sure everyone is being looked after. She's made the experience as a facilitator seamless and I honestly can't thank her... More

Our tour group stayed one night at this beautiful chateau and it was most certainly the highlight in terms of accomodation during the trip. The building is beautiful and the attention to detail in the rooms is superb. We arrived later than expected but this was accommodated with ease, including delicious 3 course dinner, which was served in a timely... More

We stayed one night at the Powderhorn and were impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the quality of our room. The wood paneling of the Chateau gives it a distinctly European feel and the room amenities are first class. We had drinks and dinner in the Powderkeg Restaurant n the evening which we really enjoyed.

How can a hotel be great for Lord of the Rings fans? Well this is a hotel that housed some of the stars during the filming at the nearby locations. For example we got room 312, which both Viggo Mortensen and Hugo Weaving stayed in (at separate times, of course!). The room itself was nice and very comfortable. When we... More

I was on a Lord of the Rings tour throughout New Zealand and this hotel happened to be where the cast and crew of the movies stayed. I actually stayed in Sean Astin's room.. BUT if you are expecting two beds (I was as I had a roommate), beware that there is one giant happy bed and one tiny not... More

We truly enjoyed our stay here. We were able to stay in the room that Sir Ian McKellan stayed in when they were filming the Lord of the Rings movies. The room was quite big. I loved the large balcony, too. This hotel was so charming, so warm, so welcoming. I would definitely stay there again. Oh by the way,... More

Stayed 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every minute at the Chateau. From the friendly greeting at Reception, the gorgeous 3rd floor room, the rustic bustling and popular Powderkeg Bar and top if off the superb Matterhorn Restaurant. What a location what a stay. Thank you Powderhorn for the memories. We will return!

It's a really nice facility. All wooden. Really mountain style. A bit 80's but in a cool way. Spacious room with a bath tub. Very clean. Also offers wifi and 50 sky programs. Really friendly staff too. The lady who welcomed us was super nice and gave us complimentary vouchers for mulled wine in their restaurant. The only thing was... More

What I mean is that the hotel itself is nicely build, good ambient and interior. Being a wooden hotel you can hear a bit more than usual. Please be aware of that. Nice swimming pool and bigger than anything else in Ohakune. Nice staff. Location great! The cons are that for the price you pay there is not even a... More
