What a fantastic place to stay. The bed was the most comfortable we had slept in on our holiday so had a good nights sleep. The bathroom has an awesome shower with a big bath. There is a tray with candle, wine glass and some smelly salts to relax in. Just what i needed. We had a view of the mountain but it wasnt playing very friendly with us but you had rugs in your room to wrap up warm to sit outside. Everything had been well thought out and lovely hosts.
Had a lovely 2 nights at this B & B.The owners Elsbeth and Carel were very nice. Got a good orientation to the Park and nearby hiking from Carel when we arrived along with Lord of the Rings landmarks. For us, was about a 1/2 hour drive to the park. Had dinners both nights at the Cypress Tree. Not a lot of restaurant options near the B & B. Cypress Tree had very good food. Tongariro area has lots of microclimates. We left the B & B after breakfast in cloudy conditions with a prediction of rain all day. But we were lucky as to our morning hike was in blue skies. Did get rain in the PM but walked our way through it. Saw 45 minute film in the visitors center to warm up and dry off. Film was so so but did warm up. The property is exquisite and we did get some wonderful views as clouds come and go.…
A beautiful lodge, specifically designed to offer the best views and the most comfort to the guests. Well equipped small appartement like accommodation with a great view: first the lodges’ pond and behind that the snow capped mountain of the Tongariro Reserve. The hosts were very helpful to point out the best day trips and also had prepared a leaflet with things-to-see on our drive to the next location. Splendid hospitality.
We stayed here for two nights on our travels through the North Island and wished we could have stayed longer. Our accommodation was top-notch, with a beautiful, peaceful room, a high standard of furnishings, welcoming owners, and to top it all - the most amazing view from our window and outside sitting area. The whole place was immaculately kept, and coming back after doing the Tongariro Crossing the touch of luxury was very welcome, as was the cedar hot tub. Now I have a confession to make..... we actually stayed a couple of years ago and I always meant to write a review on our return to the UK, but life caught up with us. I'm now addressing the oversight having recently revisited our travel blog and photos, sorry it took so long!
Designed and built by the Dutch owners Carel and Elsbeth, it's very high standard, luxurious even, with big rooms, excellent big bed, living room area, fabulous bathroom with beautiful design bath and spacious seperate shower. We were in the Whakapapa Suite. Because of the bad weather during our stay we spent a lot of time here, and that was no punishment. They have a seperate room where all the guests can sit and do some reading near the fire place. There's also a hot tub. Very helpful owners, and if you'd like to hear some interesting stories about this place and how they came here, ask Carel and he'll tell you everything! Very inspiring.
