We stayed here for 2 nights in one of the two cottages with our own veranda with fantastic view of Mt Ruapehu. There is a table and chairs so you can sit with a glass of wine and enjoy ! Gayle and Denton are friendly hosts and give you the privacy. Breakfast is fine. The grounds and river in the...

We stayed from 18.12.-20.12.14 at this marvellous place. We felt 100% comfortable with the lodge and the host. The surrounding garden and area is beautiful and relaxing. We have got a lot of tips about the area and help with booking a transfer to the Tangariro Nationalpark. One of our best times during our trip!

We had a great two night stay at the end of November. Gayle had already set the fire up for us in our chalet and with it being rather unseasonably cool we took great advantage of this. The hot tub was also a welcome treat after our rather chilly Tongariro hike. Having our laundry taken care of after our walk...

We picked The River Lodge to stay in for a birthday treat in July while skiing at Ruapehu. We booked in for two nights and stayed a third in the end because it was wonderful. The room we had was enormous, great views and really cosy despite the weather being awful. The property is in a beautiful rural setting, but...

We recently toured The North Island in New Zealand and stayed in many hotels/accommodations. This was one of the very best. Set in beautiful countryside we arrived on a cool and rainy winter evening. The welcome was warm, as was the house, and we were shown to our accommodation by Gayle, who owns the place with her husband. We had...

We stayed at river lodge to go to ski resorts and it was a gorgous stay. Lovely cozy place with lovely owner. The distance to Ohakune city center is reasonable but you are not just in the city and can enjoy amazing scenery. Definitely recommend it.

We stayed in one of the cottages and felt like we were in our own private chalet. Gayle and Denton were very welcoming and helpful. The main lodge is very nice, and their breakfasts were superb. It's a few minutes out of town, but that's a good thing-it's an incredibly peaceful and serene location. My only complaint is that we...

Gayle is the most welcoming and gracious host and I would definitely recommend River Lodge. We stayed for two nights in April, the room was superb. Giant comfy bed, sofa, fridge and a shared balcony with seating. The shared lounge area's are huge, plenty of space and Denton even lit the fire early especially for us as we came back...

Thank you so much for your review. We really do believe that "the little things do matter" as our website promotes. That little bit extra costs very little other than time and we enjoy it so there is absolutely no effort at all. When we first started here one of the other lodges said to us "if you can't enjoy...

It’s been said before about the River Lodge and it rings so true, home comforts, peace & quiet, unassuming luxuries, loads of privacy should you wish or convivial chat with your hosts and other guests. Paul Carberry of New Zealand in Depth suggested the River House, Ohakune as an ideal base to visit the sights of Waitomo and surrounding areas...

“All of the accommodation is brilliantly located, if you'd prefer privacy and being independent then book a lodge if you enjoy a little bit of company then try to get the rooms in the house, the owners are great hosts and judge how much interaction to have with guests very well.”
