We had the best stay at The River Lodge, from start to finish. We came for a few days skiing with our dog in September. When we were making our booking enquires, Eliot was incredibly helpful and responsive and answered all our questions. Upon our arrival, Eliot made us feel incredibly welcome and had the hot tub ready to go...

We arrived on a wet afternoon and Eliot had built a cosy fire in our chalet. We were made very welcome and breakfast was delivered to us the next morning. It was wonderful being able to take our dog on holiday. He made friends with the resident dog, Gulliver, who was extremely hospitable and friendly and happy to show him...

We booked 3 nights here to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and planned to spend the days snowboarding. Unfortunately the weather was awful and the mountain was closed, but it didn't matter as this was such a lovely place to relax. It's on a back road about 10 mins out of Ohakune, so is incredibly quiet and peaceful. The lodge is...

My partner and I stayed here for the weekend with our 2 small dogs. The host Eliot was awesome! Had the fire going when we arrived so that our chalet was cosy after the long drive. Warmed up the spa for when we were ready to use it. Asked us when we wanted breakfast so it would be fresh and...

A lovely peaceful location, with a fabulous view of Mt Ruapehu from the cottage decking, and the river running just a few yards away. The caretaker 'hosts' were as helpful as they could be, but perhaps lacked the really personal touch that we experienced throughout the rest of our trip. They did however recommend a trip to the Army Memorial...

We stayed for 2 nights. The room was great, with balcony & views. However it seems like the hosts have changed. It was by far the least welcoming stay on our 4 week tour of New Zealand. It seemed that we were intruding on their privacy.

In many ways the setting is absolutely superb and the accomodation is very good, we stayed in both one of the lodges and room 3 in the main house both of which were fine, however there were a few niggles which just took the edge off the experience. The current hosts are not the owners but are acting caretakers and...

We stayed here for 2 nights in one of the two cottages with our own veranda with fantastic view of Mt Ruapehu. There is a table and chairs so you can sit with a glass of wine and enjoy ! Gayle and Denton are friendly hosts and give you the privacy. Breakfast is fine. The grounds and river in the...

We stayed from 18.12.-20.12.14 at this marvellous place. We felt 100% comfortable with the lodge and the host. The surrounding garden and area is beautiful and relaxing. We have got a lot of tips about the area and help with booking a transfer to the Tangariro Nationalpark. One of our best times during our trip!

We had a great two night stay at the end of November. Gayle had already set the fire up for us in our chalet and with it being rather unseasonably cool we took great advantage of this. The hot tub was also a welcome treat after our rather chilly Tongariro hike. Having our laundry taken care of after our walk...

“All of the accommodation is brilliantly located, if you'd prefer privacy and being independent then book a lodge if you enjoy a little bit of company then try to get the rooms in the house, the owners are great hosts and judge how much interaction to have with guests very well.”
