This place was amazing from the second we drove in, to the moment we left. The staff were very hospitable, the cabins had everything you could need, and they had lots of things to do while you are staying (campfire, corn hole, basketball, volleyball net up, kids area, etc.) Prices were GREAT and would recommend Steve Stuber to my friends and family!

TL;DR BEWARE! Stay away from Alaska Redfish Lodge and do not conduct any business with the owner Steven F Stuber. The place is messy, unorganized. The lodge is quite a 10 min walk to the river. The common area had flies and smelled like dead fish. Steven is emotionally unstable and very rude! Full Story: We booked two nights stay for 2 adults, 2 kids, and 1 infant on Friday evening to go to Sterling for some fishing on a weekend Saturday-Monday. Our full booking price was about $320 ($129 per night plus fees) which we thought was odd as the Airbnb calendar showed $89. Anyway, we booked it and got all the confirmation information. Approximately at 1 AM we get an email from Steven the owner saying he is fully booked and unable to honor the reservation. We called Steven in the morning to clear things up as the reservation was already confirmed. He started blaming Airbnb for not honoring the blocked out dates saying this happens once in a while and there is no way he can give us a cabin on these dates and that he didn't want to lose his "Super host" status on Airbnb. We asked to cancel, he convinced us to continue with the reservation and that we would get a good deal. I had a bad feeling about it but felt bad for him and agreed to his offer. We moved the dates from Saturday to Sunday-Tuesday. It was inconvenient for us as kids are in school but we said we can manage and adjust our schedule. He asked us to move our date to just one night and refund the difference, in his system he would block out two nights for us. Our new total was going to be $94 for two nights. Not bad. He was very friendly on the phone and kept reiterating that he is willing to go far and beyond to make us whole. He also stated that he usually does not let five people stay and is willing to make an exception for us. This was very odd as we put five people in AirBnB and did not conceal the baby. I told him I am planning to do a lot of fishing. He said he will give me all the gear and even upgrade us to a bigger cabin that has a full-size refrigerator, and a loft area. We were excited! We get there on Sunday at 3:50 PM, check-in was at 3. The lovely cleaning lady which is potentially his wife, not sure, asked us if we were checking in. She said that we are staying in cabin 7 and that it was not ready for us. We thought that was odd as I expected that Steven would make our experience great as he promised. We said we can wait 30 minutes for the room to be cleaned up. I called Steven just in case he had told me that we are staying in cabin 8 and that he would make it to the property at ~5:30. We go to the cabin the lady said the keys were inside, I spend five minutes looking for the key, could not find it. She said she can bring it to us and she did. I started looking for the wifi password, could not find it anywhere on the wall. The lady did not know the password. I had to text Steven and he gave it to me over text. I thought it was odd that it's not printed in most normal places. There was no welcome package or welcome tour at all. Oh well. The wifi did not work inside cabin 8 but did barely work right outside. The TV did not have Netflix or cable even though it was connected. The knives in the kitchen were dirty, otherwise, the room was decent. It was NOT the room that Steven had promised us that had a loft with a full-size fridge, but I did not bother to call him as he seemed to be in a bad mood. We went to the playground, it had a very strong smell of pigsty as there was one behind it, the common area had a full trashcan of beercans and the fire pit was all covered in flies. It was pretty disgusting. I did a little fishing and we came back. I made a mental note that the experience so far was a bit odd. No welcoming, confusion with the keys, no wifi password printed, no TV and smelly, and dirty common area. Steven had returned at this point but did not bother to greet us. We did not feel welcome at all. I asked the lady if she can call Steven over as I had questions around processing my fish. She said he was upstairs but did not want to call him over. I thought it was odd, she instructed us to call him on his cell instead. He came out, I had asked him to use the coolers as he promised he said I could. He had combative body language but was answering all my questions. He told me to process the fish and leave it on the cooler pointing to it. He had instructed me to write my name on it and leave the tag. I did, he IMMEDIATELY said "What are you doing?!" is this your cooler?! I said it's empty and you pointed to it, he goes oh ok I wanted to make sure it was not someone else's. Mmm okay. I started looking for a water faucet as the processing station did not have any water connected to it. I wanted to call him and ask but given my last interaction decided to look for it myself. After a few minutes, I've located the faucet and began cleaning the fish. I took it to the cooler but thought where should I put it? He said I can use the garage area I found a vacuum bag and put the fish inside of it. I wanted to call him again to ask if I should put it inside or leave it on top, it was not too clear. His daughter who was supposed to come out and help me was nowhere to be found. I felt like I had to feed information out of him. As he offered to use his gear, coolers, and stuff I decided to give the vacuum machine a try. It did not have any do not use signs and we did not sign any paperwork stating so. So I figured it's part of the shared equipment that he offered to use. His daughter came out who was suppose to vacuum the fish and said she will call her dad as I was not supposed to use the machine. So I can use all the gear, processing stations, nets, cooler fishing equipment but not the machine? It was not very clear and there was a lot of confusion. At this point, Steven comes out and goes zero to a hundred bat sh*t crazy in a split second and starts screaming at me right away. "Why are you disrespecting my property"? , "Wha the f*uck is wrong it you?, "You are barely paying anything and practically staying for free and now using my machine, get out, leave my property, get the hell out!". I asked him is that how you treat all your paying customers? At this point a lot of things are going through my mind, we are in the middle of the woods, there is a guy who probably has a bunch of guns in the house screaming at us and telling us to leave, there is no point to argue. I did say to him that we initially paid $350 and it was not our fault and we drove two hours to get to his place. You may recall that it was HE who did not block out those dates and convinced us NOT to cancel. He was sure unhappy that he gave us a deal and seemed that he found a reason not to honor it. My wife felt unsafe and began gathering the kids. I was trying to reason with Steven saying that he did not make himself available thus I felt bad calling him every minute and that he was unwelcoming. He kept on screaming and being very confrontational and combative. We knew immediately it was unsafe to stay there any further. We went back to the cabin gathered our stuff and quickly left the property without cleaning any of the dishes as he was pacing back and forth as he was going to do something to us. We were in complete SHOCK! We drove two hours there and I did inform him of that and now were are left without shelter with kids in the middle of nowhere, it was dark at this point. On the way home, we stopped by Kenai River Drifter's Lodge which was off the road in Cooper Landing. It looked very nice, I went inside the staff were VERY friendly and we decided to stay there. It was right on the Kenai River. The place was very clean, had marshmallows for the kids, sauna, breakfast. The cabin was much bigger. It was 200 a night for two nights but was WAY worth it. We took rafting trips right from the cabin they provide fishing trips as well. All the staff was very professional. I found all the negative reviews about Redfish lodge on TripAdvisor, Airbnb, Google and they were all true. You can see in all his replies he says ignore these reviews as we have people that want to hurt us and focuses on the fishing gear. I do not intend to hurt his business but want to merely WARN you the potential booker what you are getting yourself into. Decide for yourself. To date, we have not gotten our money back.

My boyfriend and I had a great experience at the Redfish Lodge. Our cabin was clean, cozy and had everything we needed. Steve recommended us to an awesome fishing guide, Ian. When we got back from fishing, Steve packed our fish and made sure we had everything we needed to get it back to KCMO safely. I definitely recommend this place and can’t wait to visit again!

Last summer I was looking for a place on the peninsula to get an Alaskan fishing experience and had an amazing weekend during the sockeye run. The cabins were very clean, beds are comfortable and the lodge provides an amazing family friendly atmosphere. It is a relaxing place to unwind after a day of fishing, to sit out by the fire and meet new friends. The Stubers make you feel so welcomed and right at home, at that point I promised I'd be back and sure enough spent several days at the Alaska Redfish Lodge over the past 3 months. Their fish processing is second to none and are able to accommodate a lot of different things. I love this place because of how well I am treated, the guests are fun to be around and I've made some friends that I would never had met. I knew this was a great place because so many of the people I have met at the lodge have been staying there annually for 10+ years. If you don't have an amazing experience at Redfish Lodge, I'd be shocked. Thanks Steve, Lea and the kids for making it feel like home.

We arrived 75 minutes after our check in to find our reserved room with the door wide open, the trashcans full of stinky garbage, linens and personal items scattered about, and the beds and bathroom dirty. I went to the office to find it empty and also full of garbage. No calls or text messages were answered by the contact number given. I finally got ahold of someone via an alternate contact number whose response was 'oh yeah, ok, I'll be right there", I waited for 15 minutes with my crying toddler in my car, no one came. Did not stay the night, found a much nicer place nearby for less money. I normally would move on and not bother leaving a review, but the owner refuses to issue a refund and does not see any problem with the lack of service I recieved and could care less that I didn't stay, claims everything was fine even after being provided photos and the full story, apparantly having a room full of garbage, an office full of garbage, and zero customer service would be acceptable for their family vacations. The owner even claims I could have just called them and denies I made any calls or messages, of which I have records of as well. Do not stay here.
