Very good question ! I travelled up on overnight train (uncomfortable but an experience). I had pre-booked with hotel to collect me from train which arrives about 5AM. They forgot. I got very lucky and got a lift with a coach of other travellers going to Sapa (an hour's ride away).
Firstly, I would recommend travel between Hanoi and SApa on Sapa Express bus service. Secondly, there are better value hotels in Sapa than the Panorama.
