Amazing place, historical, traditional with exceptional staff serving great breakfast, lunch and dinners in the restaurant or at the roof top in the Ji restaurant, rates as Balis best Japanese. Loved the traditional houses, saw them once 1995 when Canggu was rice fields and villages and Tugu with direct access to the beach - once upon a time. Now surrounded by hotels and beach clubs, still fabulous place to stay breathing tradiotnal Indonesian art.
We had a wonderful stay at Tugu. The staff are absolutely lovely and really made this a 5 star review. We checked in quite late and experienced some noise and light pollution in our room and even at the late hour the team moved us to a new room which was also an upgrade. They even proceeded to have us stay there for the duration of our trip. 5 star customer service! Hotel is well located to the beach and beach clubs and walking distance the main spots in the area however this does come with some noise (they do give earplugs in the room). The grounds are beautiful, antique and unique as well as the rooms. You will not find this anywhere else in the world which makes it worth the stay. Breakfast and view from the restaurant and bar is also great. Thank you for making our stay. We can't thank the Tugu team enough. You made our trip!…
Stayed at the Dendari Suite for 4 nights. Old hotel with things falling apart, from tap handles to towel handles. Even the fish pond got choked and flooded the entrance. The other complaint is mosquitoes. They’re everywhere. Positives include the great food, wonderful staff and excellent service. Great location (near the beach) and nearby food options. Decoration not quite my taste but to each his/her own.
The beautiful Hotel Tugu would have to be one of the most special places that we have ever stayed in the 23 years we have been visiting the Island of the Gods. I can’t believe we have never stayed here before. The antiques, the ambiance and the amazing staff make this hotel a destination in itself, in fact we found it difficult to leave the hotel grounds. Everything about this hotel is special; the staff, the gardens, the wonderful spa ladies, the amazing food in the terrace Japanese restaurant, the beautiful spacious rooms; everything is wonderful. Do not hesitate to stay at Tugu if you wish to experience the true essence of Balinese hospitality and history, this place is stunning!
I am not sure how we lucked onto this hotel, may be post COVID amnesia or deSire to travel. It is a gem of a place. Although not fancy, it is a down to earth place with genuine Balinese hospitality and smile. We had a suite with a large open plan bedroom and living area and an attached bathroom and if we wanted a hot tub. It was made most,y of wood with Balinese style. It was comfortable and clean. The hotel was just opening after COVID so there were a few hiccups but the staff made us feel welcome and special. We were invited to and attende their religious ceremony as well as a special dinner table with traditional Balinese dance and music, highlight of our stay. Breakfast is on a terrace upstairs from wher one can see the Changgu beach and the surfers in the morning. For dinner there is a fusion Japanese Balinesecuisine as well as many traditional Balinese dishes. We may go there again if time permits.…
My favorite hotel in Bali! Exceptionally warm, competent staff. Exquisitely designed rooms exuding with attractive Indonesian cultural touches. Have stayed here four times and keep wanting to come back!
We recently fulfilled a dream and returned to Hotel Tugu Bali after honeymooning there 12 years ago. We told staff we would bring back our children one day and we had the unique honor of doing that. We were welcomed back by staff with open arms and immediately resonated with the stunning lobby and grounds we remembered. From the breathtaking entranceway which opens up to the enormous open air lobby, the unique antiques collection on display throughout the resort pay homage to the depth of history and intersection of cultures that have permeated Balinese history and continue to make it a place of unparalleled beauty. We had welcome drinks and delved back into the memories that had transcended the 12 years since our initial visit. The magic and irresistible charm of Hotel Tugu Bali permeates the air, and it retains its mission to provide an oasis to its visitors while also connecting them deeply and inviting them into the serene spirituality that characterizes Balinese culture. Our accommodations surpassed any expectations we had during both of our visits. We were blessed to stay in the Walter Spies suite which is a tribute to his impact upon the artistic scene and culture of Bali. The outdoor plunge pool was a solace set against the tropical foliage, and was a favorite for our family. We enjoyed walking to Canggu Beach and dining on property - the legendary breakfasts and meals living up to the delicious memories we had preserved over the past decade. We also got to do the Waroeng Tugu dining experience to emulate how the Javanese and Balinese people traditionally ate in their own homes, and resonated with that experience deeply. The true appeal of Hotel Tugu Bali for us was the staff and the exquisite hospitality we experienced on our honeymoon, and again amplified during our recent visit with our children. The allure of Hotel Tugu Bali and how it will impact your soul and provide you with an unforgettable cultural and spiritually uplifting experience is something I wholeheartedly recommend. Forever aloha from our island paradise home in Hawai’i to this piece of irresistible paradise on Bali!…
What a wonderful hotel. A unique ambience with all the historical and cultural artifacts. Team that with a super staff who are very service minded and dedicated to ensuring your needs are met, it is a winning recipe. We stayed a week and enjoyed it immensly. The rooms are big with plenty of space and a veranda with a deep bath and massage bed. The shower was beautiful. It was an inside/outside shower with its own extra room with a super cool statue. The breakfast was excellent with plenty to choose from and the local dishes were especially good. Served upstairw with a view of the surf made it even better. We also enjoyed dinner there and it was excellent. They have a super offer of yoga classes with super instuctors. TUGU is near the beach which we found a big plus. There was a bit of music but we did not find this bothersome at all. This is definitely a hotel I will return to.…
The decor of the hotel is very nice, the owner has collected many Indonesian antiques and displayed them here, but not like in a museum, but for the use of the guests. The staff was outstandingly friendly and helpful and the cuisine was very good. Our romantic dinner consisted of a great menu in a lovingly decorated gazebo. Although quite a few previous reviews criticized the noise of surrounding discos that lasted late into the night, we had no trouble getting to sleep. There is an agreement between the hotel and the beach bars to reduce the noise. The Tugu Bali is definitely worth a visit.
Tugu Hotel is something of a different world - it is quite unique. The place is full of historical artifacts and pieces of antique furniture, art, and photo collections. The layout and facilities of the Dendari Suite (we stayed there) were also very special - it was a feeling of being in your own tranquil and secluded villa away from civilization. It enabled us to relax and recharge our "batteries" during a short 2-night stay. The small private garden at the entrance with a decorative fish pond, the plunge pool away from other people's eyes, the hanging swinging sofa, and many other small and big features made the stay very comfortable to the point that often we did not want to leave the suite. The breakfast was outstanding in terms of quality and variety (local dishes were particularly great) and it was very substantial. The unobstructed view of the surf from the upper terrace restaurant and the friendly and attentive service added to our great feelings towards the hotel. Stephanie, Dewi, and all other members of the team provided us with very warm attention and great service. The hotel is located in one of the busiest parts of Bali today - Canggu. Yet, it offers peace and tranquility to its guests. Perhaps, the only disadvantage we had was the time to travel to the hotel from the airport - it took over 2 hours in the late afternoon. And it also took over 1 hour to reach the airport on the way back. The distance actually is long - the permanent traffic jam is the culprit. Thus the guests have to plan their transportation accordingly and allow for some spare time (just in case).…
