Several first-class semi beach breaks are waiting for you right outside the door. These are suitable for beginners, intermediates and advanced surfers. The perfect reef and beach breaks of Echo Beach and Perenenan are within close walking distance of the surf camp in Canggu. Away from the hectic traffic and tourist centres, you can completely fall into the eat-sleep-surf-repeat rhythm in the Canggu region with its many rice fields, only a stone’s throw away from the water. Enjoy the spectacular sunset with a cool after-surf beer directly from our chilled Canggu surf camp, go on a spontaneous shopping trip to Kuta, Legian or Seminyak, or enjoy the culinary diversity and bars in the area. For those who like to travel on their own, our cars and mountain bikes are available to all guests for free upon request. You only have to top up on petrol.

The perfect destination for any adventure traveler who doesn't want to give up any luxuries. They allow you to sign up for two surf trips a day to both known and unknown surf spots, the food is great, the facility is very clean, and in general the staff cares about you. The water bottle they give you is probably my best souvenir and great they are trying to reduce plastic waste. I just spent two weeks in Bali and haven't ever seen a recycling bin.

Went to Kima Surf Camp in Canggu, Bali for 5 nights as a start to my 3-week Bali vacation. I got airport transfer included in my stay and even though I arrived at midnight there was no issue finding the driver in the airport. The drive was about 1 hour and we even stopped to get local SIM cards for our phones at a very professional shop. The entire stay at Kima was super pleasant. The staff was super friendly, the place and rooms were beautiful and the food included was great - I didn't get anything I didn't like at any point (but that was also a general thing for Bali). Once I got the hang of the Surf Planner, the surf trips were great and the instructors were generally good and friendly and you could tell they really wanted to improve your skills as a surfer. The pool and video sessions were also super helpful in improving your skills. I started as almost a complete beginner at 1-star and improved to do 2-star and eventually try going from a softboard to a hardboard. I also joined the yoga and had a massage and both were of equal high quality. The best part of my stay was the people I met, many of who I am still in contact with after returning home. This was greatly facilitated by the layout of the camp (eg. just 1 big breakfast table whoch everyone sits around), the surf classes as well as the activities planned by the staff! I enjoyed my stay at Kima so much that I had to return to spend another 3 nights of my vacation there, before heading back home to Denmark :)

I had a great experience at Kimasurfschool in Canggu! The instructors were knowledgeable and patient, and I felt like I learned a lot during my lessons. The location was perfect for surfing, and the equipment provided was in great condition. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and I appreciated the personalized attention I received. Overall, I highly recommend Kimasurfschool to anyone looking to improve their surfing skills.

This was my first time going staying in a mixed dorm for a few nights, and I was not disappointed. I really loved my stay at Kima, it was just amazing! However, there are a few things you should know and be OK with, then you will have a good time :) Also, there are some things worth improving. PRO - Really looks like in the pictures, it is just gorgeous! Not just instagramable but also really functional chill areas, it's just great! - The dorms are fantastic! Big locker, massive space in the bathroom, and the beds are huge (around 1.20 per bunk!) - The crowd is very agreable, no cheap party boys and silicone girls - There is a lot of organized events so that you can meet people easily and go out if you want - If you don't like party, it's completely fine - they turn off the music at 22 and shut off the lights, so that the party happens elsewhere and not in the resort - It's exceptionally clean - The 13:00 Yoga classes are amazing - The surf classes were just great, most days we had 1 guide per student so we really learned a lot, all of use could stand up on the board on the first day - Wifi was good - Food was delicous - Generally, I think the hostel was great value for money CON / Improvements to be made - Bali belly: around 70% of people there had Bali belly, fortunately not me - but it did seem odd, the numbers are not that high elsewhere. Is this normal in hostels? I don't know, it seemed odd - While I generally think good value for money, I did not like how they tried to make money off the little things, examples: a) Laundry is 15k per kg, but then they charge for 2kg if you have 1.1kg - not even the laundry ladies in the street do that b) you aren't allowed to bring outside food - I understand that for the rooms and for the restaurant area, but this is not cool - most hostels even have fridges or kitchenettes, and we got yelled at by a lady for eating some cup noodles... this was a bit unnecessary - Even though I only wanted to do the surf course (5 days) and not rent a bout for the full time of my stay (8 days), I had to pay for 8 days worth of surf board, even though for the surf course the boards are already there and you don't actually get to "pick your own" - Surf logistics 1: If you do the beginner course or are beginner level, they only offer one location and it is in Seminyak, which is usually about an hour drive with traffic. Also, the water there is brown (waste water?), and they don't offer any other 1 star trips unfortunately - Surf logistics 2: The beginner course is together with Seminyak camp, who literally have a few mins walk to the beach. In the morning we had to wait 30-45 mins for them because that was the buffer they had been given in case we are caught in traffic. So this means for the Canggu camp, you drive 30-60 mins, wait 30-45 mins, class, drive back 60-75 min. In total this could mean meeting at 10:30 and returning at 15:00. For the Seminyak group, they would comfortably show up around 12 and then be back in their camp around 14:30. I would really recommend to improve this! There are many options: e.g. Seminyak could show up earlier, but as they don't lose time in the car later, they still are back in the camp earlier than Canggu. Or, you could alternate it - one day Seminyak has to wait, one day Canggu. These are constructive improvement tips. As I said I really enjoyed my stay, but these improvements would make it 5 star! I will certainly be back and have also recommended Kima to friends already

My most shocking experience here was when one of the Kima surf-guides who was driving us to a surf spot ended up in a car accident (and could have got us all injured or killed!) and ended up in a hospital himself… Why? Because he simply didn’t stop at one police checkpoint, where instructed to do so, and instead drove away like a crazy person, ending up being chased both by the police and two innocent families on cars after he crashed into one, and again, instead of stopping and despite our pleads on the back seat to just please stop the car, drove away again - when the car finally had to stop because it was cornered by the others, my partner had to step out of the car to defend ALONE the Kima guide who was been beaten by the other angry people (who he hit with the car before)… It was a very scary experience. When we left, we were surprised to learn that Kima kept on working with the same guide even after that accident… Good luck then when driving next time to hopefully just go surfing! In fact, I was here at Kima several times, starting from 2011, when the camp was a true piece of paradise and the only thing standing between itself and the sea was a green meadow with peaceful cows, and the last time now at the end of 2022 - sadly, no more green meadow, but piles of stinky rubbish, loose wild dogs and tons of new (next to already abandoned and ruined) buildings, encircling the Kima’s camp from all sides - the sight of grey walls and the sound of new constructions directly next to the camp replacing what was once an unobstructed sea view and the sound of the waves — all gone now to concrete and hammers - at any time of day and even night! The nearby beach (10 minutes walk passing wild dogs and rubbish… no more cow grazing on a - now gone - green meadow) and wave where many sessions take place is unfortunately so polluted (in one of the sessions there, among other strange “appearances”, was a floating plastic bag filled with what turned out to be some animals - putrified - intestines…) that almost all people at the Kima camp during the time I was last there were mostly sick over several days - at one point, people were scared to go back in the water - super preamble when you are in a surf-camp! Next to the lost unspoiled nature there, I also remember the generous portions of excellent food - now the food is still okay, but funnily from years to years food portions had literally become smaller and smaller - to make it less noticeable though the glasses they used, for juices instance, have also become thinner and thinner. There is no sign of the generosity towards guests I remember from the first years - before Kima turned a (greedy) victim of its own success somehow. It is less about offering top service now, than squeezing the most out of the guests - and those who “dare” to (politely) speak up, instead of simply bowing their heads, get “banned” - so better to get used to bow your heads and be complacent, if you can turn a blind eye to be treated as a walking money-bag and wish to come back. By the way, even booking a place at Kima has become very telling of its own approach to guests now: you need to pay everything at least 2 weeks _before_ arriving, and by accepting all surplus charges (about 3% on top of the due amount) by either paying with a credit card or bank transfer to Singapore — even though the owner, as far as I know, is still partly based in Germany and most of the guests are in fact Germans - of course, there used to be a German bank account, free of charges then - that that option too has now been taken away. Well, good luck getting your money back from a bank in Singapore now, in the event there is ever an issue and the (in my opinion) mercurial owner decides he does not need to honor his agreements with you… Aside from the still genuinely nice and always friendly local employees, I am sad that so much of the good had been lost at Kima - luckily there are many other new surf camps now, especially outside of the main hub in Canggu, and some of those in fact run by smart ex-Kima surf-guides, who are still unspoiled by their own success and where guests (not money) are still at the center and treated with respect.

Hello M......., We will keep it short and straight to the point as you seem to try to affect us negatively with your comments. Especially as this malice comment has been posted with an image attached having nothing to do with the situation, this is very out of place and we believe against Tripadvisor T&Cs. To begin with, let us clarify that operate a private business, therefore, we have the sole discretion of choosing who to accommodate or not. Obviously, we are bound to honour a confirmed and paid booking but we have the freedom to decide not to accept a booking request (as per your case and we won’t get into the details for the reason why again here in public). We are a private entity that provides entertainment, therefore we pick and choose our customers on the basis we deemed appropriate. There's no need for your comments and we believe it is completely out of place (with an image which is not part of our business but 100 meters away from our property!) First of all, it surprise us you decided to keep this comment anonymous and we believe it is not relevant to the platform you posted it as you had a great experience during your last visit so much so you were planning to come with your whole family for 2 months in 2023! Once again, as per our previous communication, we have no hard feelings and we wish you the best time when you’ll travel to Bali or Sri Lanka.
