This being our second visit to Bali, we were hoping for relaxing solitude away from the hustle and bustle of Seminyak, and that is exactly what Enigma Bali Villas delivered. We stayed in the largest of the villas – “Enigma”, and made the right choice we think.

Location

Enigma Bali Villas is located in Pererenan, this is well worth looking at on a map before you visit, as it is quite far from the main holiday areas – which suited us just fine. Pererenan beach (black sand) was a 10 minute walk, down one street which is mainly residential, and can be safely walked – even at night with a torch as it is reasonably well lit for most of the way. Pererenan beach has a small beach bar (perfect for sunset viewing), and one or two restaurants, which served simple, but tasty, and reasonably priced food.

Echo Beach is the local hub, which can be walked fairly easily (20 minutes or so), has several seafront restaurants, shops, an ATM, and a sports bar showing Aussie rules, and EPL matches. We did walk back in the dark, but the road is fairly busy. Approximately half way to Echo beach is the Red Salt Café, which is a welcome place to stop for a drink and snack on the way.

We didn’t hire a scooter, as most visitors do, but managed to get around fairly easily. The staff at Enigma booked us taxis, which were clean, cheap and reliable; but taxis back were hit-and-miss, so on one occasion we did walk back from Echo Beach – even though we didn’t really want to.

There are several short-cut trails across country and through the rice fields, which were genuinely beautiful – and offer a taste of the real Bali.

There is a small convenience store directly opposite Enigma, which was perfect for basic supplies. There are two laundries close by, so there’s no need to pack a huge amount of clothes.

The Villa

Enigma villa had two double bedrooms, each en-suite (showers – no bath), an outdoor lounge area and TV, and a kitchenette with fridge. There were sufficient utensils to cook a meal if required, as well as a microwave, egg cooker, and a two ring gas hob.

The villa was great in every way; the pool was large, but the loungers in the “Enigma” villa were set out in an inconvenient place, with no sun, and amongst the undergrowth which was teeming with lizards. If you are a sun worshipper, I would recommend bringing a lilo to bob around in the pool which catches the sun beautifully. Otherwise the other pool villa seemed slightly smaller, but better laid out. There are refurbishments planned I understand.

If you are of a nervous disposition, you should be aware that the villa backs onto a small bamboo forest, and as a result is teeming with wildlife, from large lizards, and frogs, to some much bigger animals that we could hear in there behind the wall at night.

Service

The hotel arranged our pick-up and drop-off at a reasonable price, and with no issues at all.

Our rooms were cleaned daily, and the staff were great. We had a meal cooked for us in the villa one night, and it was lovely. We prefer to be left alone for the most part, and the staff got that just right. Clean towels and linen were provided as required.

Overall a great stay, and I would recommend.

Located on a beautiful, quiet place near by the beach and close to the restaurants and bars area, Enigma Bali Villas was the best choice for my stay in Bali.
Starting from the pickup at the airport, the staff was extremely friendly and helpfull, they recieved us with cold water and fresh towels in the car and in around 30 minutes we were at the villas.
In the villas the staff was extremely nice with us (english speakers), we made check-in on our villa and it was gorgeous! We booked the enigma villa so we had our private pool and a big bedroom and a welcome package which was a fruit basket:).
On our second day we had the continental breakfast which was good, fresh (fruit, juice, scrambled eggs) and for lunch we ordered the Baliepicure and it was exquisite!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Its room service, they come dressed with a typical dress and they deliver you the food. After that we had a massage for 10 USD and then went to the nearest beach "Eco Beach" which is really nice and has a lot of activities.
If you have any doubts about tourist attractions or information, at the reception Linna can help you with everything.
I HIGHLY recommend Enigma Bali Villas, its unique and you really get the chance of experiencing Indonesia... Definitely will go back soon!!
Thankx to Linna and all the staff who made my stay in Indonesia so enjoyable!

We only booked one night to stay at Enigma right at the end of our trip but left wishing we had stayed longer. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived by Wally, who offered every hospitality possible. Nothing was too much trouble. From driving us personally to a restaurant for dinner and then picking us up afterwards in the rain - for nothing - to choosing fresh fruit especially for us at the market we couldn't have asked for a nicer host. The rooms were modern and clean and decorated with colour and style! The kids loved sitting in the pool with a drink at the poolside bar while watching TV! Luxury! If we are lucky enough to make it back to Bali I'd definitely stay at Enigma again! Thanks Wally and Pat!

After reading all the good reviews, we booked Enigma Villa expecting great service and a comfortable stay. It was our first wedding anniversary and both of us were sure we had made the right decision even though the price seemed inflated for the off-season visit. On our arrival, we were greeted by the hostess Lynn and shown to our villa - Enigma. Upon entering the villa, we were given complimentary fruit basket and drinks. Our bed had beautiful flower decoration with Happy anniversary drawn across it. We were pleased. However, things started going bad immediately. The villa claims that it has a jaccuzi, but there was no such facility. We were told that it has been shut down as no one used it. Secondly, as vegetarians, we planned to make our own food at the villa. As advertised, i expected a fully equipped kitchen, however upon examination, i found it fully empty! The microwave did not work, and when asked for a replacement, i was told that i should use the microwave in the next villa which was empty. There were no knives or vessels (except one rusty pan for omlette). At night there were too many mosquitoes and there was no sofa facing the television. I guess we were supposed to stand and watch the tv. the pool was the only good thing. It was also too dim and gloomy in the evening. You can forget about reading a good book in the night. The bedroom aircondition was pathetic and did not cool up the entire night. We checked both the bedrooms aircon and both were in bad state and not giving enough cooling. At night, the villa is so dark, it is not a comfortable place to stay and is in the middle of nowhere. If you have a family with kids, please dont book here. Your kids will find this place spooky and you will constantly be worried about them. I also want to mention that the complimentary fruit basket was removed the second day of our stay even though we did not try any fruits. Also the locking and unlocking of the villa main door and bedroom was cumbersome. we had to search through all the keys in the bunch to open and close the villa as well as the bedroom. It w;as not at all convenient. On the last day, while settling the bills i was given a shock when i realized I was being charged for the flower decoration on the bed (which is usually given as a complimentary gesture at most hotels) which i did not even order. I put my foot down and refused to pay for it. i had also ordered a half kg fruit cake and nice dinner table to be set up for our anniversary dinner. The cake turned out to be choclate cake (none of us like choclate) and i was charged around 30SGD for this! when i asked for receipt, i was told it was lost. I can clearly see i was fleeced. I would never return to this villa ever and would advise anyone who wants to stay here to carry torch, mosquito repellent and a your own kitchen equipment, as well as a cooler... you would also need headache pills, as this inconvenient place would give you some headaches. I should however add that Lynn as a hostess was nice and friendly. She was also very helpful. But you would find cheaper and more comfortable place for the same price closer to the city.

Dear valued guest, Thank you for your valuable feedback. It's always important to us to get honest and prompt feedback. I wished I would have received this feedback while your stay so I would have had the change to make it better. On all your pints we were able to change - we did. Let me summarize it here for all upcoming guest: Jacuzzi: infact we closed the Jacuzzi because no usage in hot Bali. It has been taken out of our advertising since day of closure. (in globetrotters case your booking was before that time) Kitchen: The kitchen is fully equipped. I checked personally and added all items I could thing of are convenient for guest preparing their own food. All items looking used I exchanged in new ones. Fruit Baskets: are complimentary for our valued guest. They are not taken from the Villas. I advised the staff accordingly. Location: The Villas are in Canggu. A place in the middle of Ricefields. It's in walking distance to the ocean. Its a place to relax and to enjoy nature. Lights: I assume all level of lights can be set outside and in the rooms. In the garden we like to lit candles for a romantic experience. All rooms have either ceiling light or a standing light or a bedside table light. It can be combined according to your preferences. Actually in the garden we added some very beautiful lightnings hanging in the trees. Every time we are trying to improve our place little by little to let it be your perfect place to relax. Thankful for all feedbacks The Owner

This property only has 3 different types of Villa, one of each type which is a little odd to begin with. We chose the biggest among the three. The Pool is huge and clean.
I like how both rooms are facing the pool. We won't have to fight over who has the better room view.
Well of course staying in a villa, insects are a little hard to avoid. So those who are particular, please stay in a hotel with floors instead. I would choose a huge private like this one. For me these are just minor problems during the stay. Air conditioning works perfectly. This is important as you know how hot Bali can get.
Breakfast is not great at all. I'd recommend just going to a nearby cafe. Canggu has alot of hip cafes.
Or you may choose to just buy some cereal during your stay, the fridge is huge enough for you to store food.
Toilets are clean.

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Enigma Villas. We only stayed one night but wish it had been longer. The private pool was perfect and our breakfast in our private dining room was delicious. Lani who takes care of the place is so sweet and had everything we needed! The room was kept clean and I saw no bugs, which is surprising for this type of place. Perhaps the cute frogs outside keep them away! :) They provided mosquito coils that were lit while we were at dinner so when we came back the villa was mozzie free. The Villa was plenty of space for my two friends and me. The bedrooms are spacious and each has its own private bathroom. And the dining and living area is very nice and welcoming, with the private pool being a great spot to relax. It is just a bit farther from the cafes and beach, but you can probably walk it in 20 minutes or so. We took a driver, and the echo beach club told us where to walk to get a car back. I appreciated being in a quiet small street I would definitely stay again!

Dear ecmelvin, glad to hear from you that you liked it. Our place is exactly 900 m (measured :-)) away from the beach. I agree for some this is quite walk. Our recommendation is to go in an early morning or dawn to escape the heat or simply get one of the scooter which are so convenient to get around. Hope to have you back one day. Cheers the Owner + Lani.

One of the most amazing experiences, feeling like home, not far from anywhere close from a very marvelous friends.
After 30 minutes walking down the cold rain with no shoes talking with my best girl friend, arrive to Enigma Bali and finish the great evening at the outdoor bathtub in the Villa Mala, and just keep talking and smiling about life. I am Missing Enigma, for sure I will go back!

I'm very happy and had a wonderful stay in Enigma Bali Villas after traveling to 5 countries at a go and Bali is my last destination of my last vacation where I would like choose to live near to the nature and away from crowded city.
I have been to Bali a few times staying in Kuta & Ubud before, Canggu is the 1st time I have choose to stay and I'm glad I have made the right choice. When choosing to stay near the nature, I would expect to see insects, lizards or bats (I had encounter before when I'm staying in Ubud villas). However, I don't see any of it in this villa but just only a small little frog jumping around which I find it very cute. I like the clean environment even though is surrounded by nature, impressed with the nice pool and the layout of the villa (Is worth the price to paid for the bedrooms with private pool).
The services from the girls are very good when they keeps the mosquito away every night (I don't get this services in other villas during my past stay in Bali) and I had a good breakfast made by them too.
There's a beautiful beach when you can see sunset (10mins walk from the villas).
After many traveling, finding little fault to get free late check-out is not my style.
I will come and stay in Enigma Bali Villas the next time I visit Bali.
Cheers
