Had a business trip from Shanghai to Tianjin last week. First time staying at Shangri La Tianjin. I was very pleased to see Covid protocols in place. Shanghai is super lax on that. Temperature check when you enter the hotel, must show your green health code, all staff wearing masks. Opted for the Horizon Club room. Excellent view of the river and the city. Sadly the pollution is back so the awesome view was obscured. Great sleep and modern room. Had drinks in the lounge for dinner. Great selection and some nice canapés. Was nice to see that they actually had a semi-buffet. Breakfast was great. Some made to order dishes. Pancakes with REAL maple syrup (that was a nice treat). Great location close to the train station and also the airport, and its downtown. Great hotel, if you upgrade to Horizon Club you check in on 32F, much faster and smoother. I checked in at 17:00 and they welcomed me with some sparkling wine, that was refreshing. Will be back again!

Dear ShanghaiRyder, thank you for choosing Shangri-La Hotel, Tianjin and thank you for your ‘great' review. I am thrilled to learn that you really enjoy your stay with us. We are very lucky to have such a great location, being so close to or with direct access to everything in Tianjin. Such as the railway station, airport, economic and development zones, conference centre and tourist sites. Our views of the river from the guest rooms are great, especially at night. Thank you for enjoying our horizon food and beverage offers. It was a pleasure having you stay with us, and we all look forward to welcoming you back again very soon. Sincerely, Jason Stinson

First off, apologizes as I rarely do reviews, I prefer to read the reviews instead. Been living in Beijing for 15 years and travel to Tianjin quite often ( just for the day). I don't spend the night because it's 30 minutes by train back to Beijing, and I like sleeping in my own bed. I actually stayed here by accident, to be honest. My friend was hosting a table at the Shangri La for the CFFC (charity event) in Tianjin and at 15:00, he called me and told me a friend canceled do you want his ticket? I am already in Tianjin so I called the wife, she said I could stay the night. The CFFC event and afterparty were going to go well past 23:30, and there would be no more train back to Beijing until morning. Called up the Shangri La, thankfully they were not sold out yet, (when I arrived at 17:00, they were 100% full). Good timing on my part! Check-in was smooth and easy. Took a shower, and changed for the dinner which was at 19:00 in the horizon lounge on the 32nd floor. The dinner (which was donated by the hotel and the money raised went to charity) was FANTASTIC! Yvan the French chef, amazing. Incredible dishes, and excellent wine pairings. Hats off to the chef! Had an awesome night and then a wonderful sleep at the hotel. Blackout curtains, I ended up sleeping in until 9:00 am. Had breakfast which was a good variety of both western and Chinese options (something for everyone). Checked out and went back home to Beijing. Great hotel, friendly staff, and they have a good heart to give back to charity. Stay there again? You bet!

We often don’t take into account the importance of charity and giving back especially during this challenging year of 2020. I must say, that the Shangri La Tianjin really embodies the spirit of giving back to the local community. I was delighted to be guest at the VIP table of CFFC’s (Chi Fan For Charity) the first ever event in Tianjin. The Shangri La Tianjin donated a table for 10 pax with a 6 course dinner and wine pairing in the Horizon Lounge. The tickets were sold, and the funds from the tickets went to charity in Tianjin (benefiting disabled children). No other hotels took part in this event (I was told), and Shangri La Tianjin even donated a raffle prize of a weekend stay in a suite for 2 pax (unfortunately I didn’t win). I actually came in from Beijing with my friend to support this great cause and we ended up staying the weekend at the Shangri La. There is something about this hotel that makes it special. It’s hard to properly put it into words. This is not your average hotel, it is a staple in the community. The staff were friendly, happy, I could tell they were smiling 9under their masks). Everyone has been so miserable under COVID that it was great to see people enjoying life and doing something for the community. I had the pleasure of meeting Jason (the GM) and he really brings the sense of community to the hotel, he’s actually quite well known and respected in the local community. Staying at this hotel is its real and genuine, there is nothing artificial about it. We stayed on the 22nd floor and the view was spectacular. We were lucky it was a beautiful weekend in Tianjin, it was crystal clear. Excellent breakfast if you stay in the club lounge, they have a special breakfast set (where you have buffet and made to order items). Definitely take the upgrade, and make sure you check it out at night, the best views in Tianjin. It was an honor to be at this dinner and it was a pleasure to stay at the hotel. Highly Recommended, I will certainly be coming back again soon!

When I stayed at Tianjin's Shangri-La Hotel in early spring this year, COVID-19 was still active in China - although Tianjin was little affected, the city had very few infections. However, many precautions were in place to ensure total safety and well-being of the few remaining guests. Most facilities sadly had been closed, guests were few. It was quite emotive seeing such a normally vibrant hotel so quiet. With travel restrictions now lifted across China I was able to return recently to Tianjin, staying of course at the Shangri-la. Entering the lobby, the scene entirely different to when I departed in the spring. However, the same staff there giving me and my family a genuine feeling of "welcome back". Facilities had all reopened - lobby lounge with evening music, Cafe Yun and Shang Palace Restaurants, swimming, sauna and 32nd floor Horizon Lounge with its superb views over the city was back in full swing. I enjoyed regular glasses of wine in the evenings there watching the city lit up again in festive mood. Guests had returned - many weekend weddings were back on schedule and during the October week long National Holiday, occupancy was nearing 100% - thankfully I had booked our room early! I was greeted by General Manager Jason Stinson who also gave me a sincere welcome back and in my confidence that the hotel would swing back to its high-standards of normality after the COVID-19 anxieties we all had. What we all appreciated was this genuine warmth from the staff at every level - we are treated more as friends. Whether it be the front door concierge, the room cleaner who made sure our room was always perfect after we returned from breakfast, to the delightful lobby lounge staff, indeed the whole team. It has been this positive and personal attitude of the staff that encourages me always to return to the Shangri-La when visiting Tianjin. While there, activities were taking place both within the hotel grounds and the adjacent Riverview Mall where an outdoor night market was set up and on the hotel's lawn, a one day farmers' market - great fun and good photo opportunities. The hotel's location is excellent - I walked down to the nearby landscaped banks of the Haihe River where fishermen were back, people exercised, impromptu music performances all helped emphasize the Tianjin was back in action. Evening cruise boats were carrying visitors again to see the city's buildings all lit up. The hotel is only a short distance from the former British and French international concession areas - Jiefang Bei Street, once Asia's First Wall Street is a truly fascinating place to walk through. The city itself is now just as vibrant as before - shoppers and visitors (many still wearing masks) have flocked back to pedestrianised Binjiangdao street. Wudadao, a short cab ride from the hotel, with its feel of European suburbia has seen all its cafes and restaurants open again, offering quiet relaxation with some superb dining. It was certainly a pleasurable experience to return to Tianjin after the worrying times earlier this year and a real pleasure to once again experience the welcome that Shangri-La hotel and its staff always give to me and my family. The hotel incidentally has lots of information about discovering Tianjin available for guest, Dawangzhaung Metro Station (Metro Line 9) a few minutes walk and Tianjin Railway Station only one stop away by the metro. As I write this I just wish I was sitting in the 32 floor Horizon Lounge looking again over the skyline of Tianjin - but I will hopefully be back again sometime this year.

Hotel is nicely located at the city center with view on the river. The rooms are nice and spacious. The water pressure in the shower is great to wake up with. Clever downsides are: construction started at 6am very loudly outside the hotel without having been given any prewarning. The breakfast was a war zone. Lots of children running around, no free spaces, shared tables. Pretty much chaos. Tables were left in leaned for a long time. The quality of the breakfast was insufficient: no standard items like smoked salmon; only the cheapest ingredients were used for the sushi (no fish, just vegetables). Seriously need to work on the management to get this hotel to a 5 star service again.

Dear c0ntid, thank you for staying with us Mid-Autumn Festival & National Day Holiday period. We are delighted you chose to stay us. Thank you also for your kind words about the comfortable room with nice view, as well as our ‘great’ water pressure in the shower. I am disappointed however to learn that you had a less than satisfactory experience at brekafast. I am grateful that you have shared this with us as we are always looking at ways to improve the guest experience, especially over the busy public holiday periods. And, what we learn from this will be reviewed and implemented. We always strive to make all our guest feel comfortable and at home, and that includes an enjoyable breakfast experience. We certainly hope that you will stay with is again. My team and I look forward to the opportunity to warmly welcoming you back. Sincerely, Jason Stinson, General Manager
