Detailed Reviews
My two buddies & I stumbled across this hidden Soldotna gem. Clean, comfortable cabin that easily could have fit four just steps from the river. Excellent location for fishing right on the beach of the property….. complimentary hip boots and gear were provided, along with on-site filleting, freezing, processing and shipping services. Brian and Peggy, along with son Alex, couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. Washer/dryer, top-of-the line grills and smokers on the premises. Literally everything we could have needed. We loved our stay and give it our highest recommendation!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the King Salmondeaux Lodge. The Riverside Cabin exceeded our expectation. It was exceptionally clean, had a comfortable bed and pillows and the cabin was stocked with everything we needed - and the view of the Kenai River from the deck is amazing. The lodge grounds, pavilion and bon fire areas, grills…were all well-kept and clean.
The On-Site Managers, Oakley and Brian, greeted us upon our arrival, and Brian and Peggy went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, had everything we needed, and they answered the many questions we had about the area. Brian demonstrated the technique for catching Sockeye (my first time) and it was not long before the first fish was hooked.
We highly recommend the King Salmondeaux Lodge and look forward to our next stay in August!

I can't believe this lodge has not been reviewed yet! It's nestled back in a quiet area of Soldotna, right on the Kenai river. You can fish right from the rivers edge with 2 stairways leading down to the river area. Each cabin has a full kitchen, master bedroom, bathroom, and 3 queen beds up in the loft. This was a great place to take family for an Alaska vacation. Some of us stayed back and enjoyed the day at the lodge as others headed to Seward to ocean fish. The evenings are peaceful with firepit going, lots of fun conversation, & our host Sean was very attentive to whatever we needed. The margarita machine is an added bonus! To top off our visit - we woke up to see a mamma moose and her twins sleeping in the lawn & then a caribou walking down the road!! WOW, what a great vacation!! (You can do laundry there too and they pack your fish)

The nicest people are running this self catering lodge, location is perfect for fishing, nicely set up for BBQ and relaxing by the fire or playing games. But the newly built luxury cabins we would have done very differently. The lodge only has space heaters, furniture is basic to the extreme and not cosy, the upper floors need to be accessed by an outside staircase, the TV is mounted above the entrance door, house shakes when people are walking upstairs, shower and sinks had teething issues with hot and cold water.

In June 2018 my Dad and I made our second visit to King Salmondeaux Lodge. This year was even better - we were joined by some friends and took advantage of renting one of the very large Deluxe Cabins. The stay was fantastic.
First off, the Deluxe cabins worked great for two families - each level with two bedrooms (each bedroom has a queen bed and a set of bunk beds) and a bathroom with a shower. The lower level also has a full sized kitchen with full-sized appliances, a large kitchen table and a nice large sofa. The kitchen was fully equipped with pots, pans, cutting boards, toaster, microwave, coffee pot, dish towels, cabinets full of odd-and-ends seasonings and basics (flour, etc), paper towels, and more. The shower situation is great for a large group - two showers with on-demand hot water heaters means nobody gets a cold shower!
The location of King Salmondeaux can't be beat - right on the banks of the Kenai river, a couple of staircases heading down to the bank for "steps from your door," bank Sockeye fishing. The lodge is quiet, peaceful, and the location seems remote when you are there, but is only a short drive into town to gather necessities or head out for dinner.
The staff at the lodge are also phenomenal. The couple that manages the Lodge, Leslie and Seth, are the perfect hosts, being attentive, accommodating, and just really friendly people! Seth is a wealth of fishing knowledge, helping guests get set up with sockeye fishing rods (many high quality setups are provided for lodge guests) as well as hip waders, rubber boots, nets, "fish bonkers," stringers, and sage advice from his years of experience. Leslie makes sure that everything runs smoothly, from managing the staff and making sure the guests are well taken care of. Maddi is in charge of cleaning and packaging your fish catch, and she does a fantastic job making sure your fish is cleaned, vacuum sealed, and packaged up when your time at the lodge is (sadly) over. She even came in to the lodge one evening on her day off to be sure that our freshly caught fish was process and frozen as soon as we brought it to the lodge - truly going above and beyond! Everyone at the lodge is extremely focused on making sure the guests have everything they need for a seamless Alaskan experience, from coolers provided at each cabin, to fresh ice being constantly available to fill your coolers before heading off to catch fish. The lodge are also experts on setting up fishing trips for salmon, halibut, and even fly-out trips to remote places for pristine fishing without another soul in sight. King Salmondeaux is a full-service, five-star fishing lodge with great people that really make the difference.
This past year was our third time to the Kenai Peninsula fishing, and our second year in a row staying at King Salmondeaux. On our future trips we will undoubtedly make this our lodge of choice! If you are looking for a lodge that is impeccably clean, well-maintained, modern, has ideal location, is family friendly, is run by true professionals who are incredibly hospitable, look no further than King Salmondeaux!

In June 2017, my Dad and I returned to the Kenai peninsula for our second fishing trip. We had visited this part of Alaska about six years ago and stayed at a different lodge. This time, we had a recommendation from our favorite fishing guide that we should stay at the King Salmondeaux Lodge. After a couple of phone calls with Leslie, the manager, we had our stay booked for 9 nights starting in the third week of June. All of our interactions with Leslie on the phone were great, she answered all of our questions and we had a very good feeling about the lodge.
When we arrived, we met Leslie, her husband Seth (the husband/wife team that manage the lodge), their son Trapper and Brian, the "fish guy." We were also able to meet the owner, Mike, who overlapped with our stay a few days, and is a very nice guy. Leslie showed us to our Riverside cabin which was perfect, with a kitchenette, full sized refrigerator, private bedroom on the ground floor and three comfy queen beds in the loft. The view was incredible. The cabin was very clean and had all the basics - coffee, coffee pot, toaster, pots and pans, linens, lots of towels, etc etc. Overall the cabin was great, and even nicer than we expected. The shower had lots of hot water and Leslie even kept it stocked with little shampoos and soaps - more like a fancy hotel than a lodge!
The we had arranged to have breakfast at the lodge each day and boxed lunches to take with us on our fishing trips. We were lucky that while Leslie had promised us continental breakfasts each morning, on our second day, the new chef, Rene, had arrived. Each day Rene made us a gourmet breakfast, ranging from loaded scrambled eggs, to omelettes, to pancakes, and always had muffins, bagels, cereal, fruit and yogurt available. On those mornings where we had a very early start, they made sure that our lunches and a basket of breakfast items were delivered to our cabin the night before, usually courtesy of Trapper, who could be found making the rounds to each cabin every day.
One afternoon, Brian was kind enough to show my dad and I how to fish for sockeye (ripping for reds!) which you can do right from the walkways down to the river in front of the cabins. Each day, after our guided fishing trips, we handed off our fish to Brian, who expertly vacuum sealed and labeled the day's catch before freezing it for us. Before we left, he packaged everything into fishboxes which we took as checked baggage on the plane and arrived at our destination safe and frozen solid, just as he had assured us.
Overall, the location of the lodge is ideal. The fishing in the Kenai right by the lodge is fantastic, and our guide even picked us up each day right at the walkway in front of our cabin - incredibly convenient. The lodge is great, a great area with grills and smokers to use, a great fish cleaning station, and a great firepit/seating area where the campfire burned each night. Lots of camaraderie and fish stories around the fire, and pretty much whenever you ran into anyone, which is how it should be at a great fishing lodge!
What really made the lodge special was the care that each of the people running the place took to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The fishing was great, the location is perfect (right on the river but just a few minutes from town), and it is a beautiful lodge. My Dad and I both give the King Salmondeaux Lodge our most enthusiastic recommendation. Everyone there was extremely genuine, friendly, and just fun to be around. We are already trying to figure out when we will be making our next trip back!
If you are thinking about a lodge on the Kenai, you should definitely check this place out!

Clean and quiet and Leslie will take such good care of you. She's lovely and understanding. Lots of fun and I would stay there again. The "black out" shades could be a bit darker and completely block out the light in the bottom bedroom for the summer, but the forest green was not too bad! So more black out shades all around, especially if sleeping in the loft, and I could see that being a better night's sleep for those of us in the lower 48. ;) Also, lots of great wildlife including moose and bald eagles, so have the camera ready!

Our visit to the Lodge was excellent! Leslie and Seth took great care of us, and we enjoyed walking out the door, grabbing a rod, and fishing whenever we felt like it. Very well outfitted. The cabin was perfect for our family of four plus grandparents. We especially liked the outdoor pavilion for grilling and eating together. It was very convenient to run into Soldotna as needed, but felt very secluded.
