Ok…. this was our final planned stop on a 6 week camping trip around Alaska, from Fairbanks to Seldovia…..I have to say this was the highlight of our journey ! We arrived by water taxi from Homer, and the owners son was waiting to greet us on the beach and showed us to our cabin ! He gave us a tour of the grounds, including the art studio where the owner creates beautiful ocean-themed, kiln-fired and glazed ceramic pieces that are used to decorate the cabins, and are available for purchase. We also toured the beautifully renovated Beach House, which is available for larger parties and events. The location of Between the Beaches is absolutely stunning, with calm bay waters steps away from our cabin front door, and a gorgeous, wildlife filled beach out of the back, down a beautifully landscaped path. We spent hours sitting on the beach, watching the sea otters floating in the surf, and admiring the view of Mt. Iliamna across the inlet. Our cabin was the definition of cozy….warm, nicely decorated, and filled with everything you need in the kitchen to prepare food. Very quiet, peaceful, and private location, with complimentary use of kayaks, rowboats, fishing gear, sauna, hot tub, and fire pits with fire wood for guests. They are even dog friendly 🥰 !
I can’t speak highly enough of this family-owned and operated business. The owner lives on site, and checked on us daily to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. Just an absolutely fantastic spot !!

A great friend of mine has been telling me about Between Beaches for years and her love of the place. My schedule finally worked out for me to visit this slice of Alaska heaven during the Fourth of July weekend, and I immediately fell in love as well. Between Beaches is located on the MacDonald Spit between Kasitsna Bay and Kachemak Bay near the city of the Seldovia. It is a short water taxi ride from the city of Homer with some of the most breathtaking scenery you could imagine. The owner, Kristi, and her staff are very attentive to the needs of their guest and offer a warm Alaska welcome and hospitality during your stay at Between Beaches. Many times they went above and beyond any expectations I would have to make my stay what I had dreamed of before visiting here. There are several different options for lodging during your stay from an adorable dry cabin, lovely cabins with all the amenities, and a stunning beach house with a separate guest cabin for those needing more space. There is also a sauna and hot tub that face out to the pristine Kachemak Bay. Sometimes, you may even be able to spot whales while you’re taking a hot tub or sauna! Kayaks and row boats are included with your reservation. Plus there is bird viewing (tons of eagles!!), hiking, wildlife viewing (so many otters!!) tide pooling, beach combing, beach fishing…the list of activities to do while you are here literally goes on and on. After your activities of the day, and you’re ready to wind down and relax with your favorite beverage, Kristi’s touches around the property as an accomplished artist are apparent everywhere you look. I never grew tired of looking at all the neat touches from her artist’s eye that makes this place truly unique when it comes to Alaska lodges. This place should be top on your list of places to visit and stay in Alaska whether you are a visitor or a born and bred Alaskan! Thank you Kristi and staff for an amazing Fourth of July weekend!!!

We've been visiting Between the Beaches off and on for many years. Most recently, we went there twice in June 2022 with two groups of family visitors from the Lower 48. As always, it was a wonderful experience for all. This is a unique location, on a narrow spit between Cook Inlet and Kasitsna Bay. On the NW side, you get great views of the big volcanoes across Cook Inlet. On the other side, Kasitsna Bay is a perfect place for mellow kayaking in protected waters. Great opportunities for beach combing on both sides. The cabins are cozy, with hot/cold running water, showers, electric lights, etc. A wood fired sauna and hot tub are also available for use. One feels truly separated from the everyday world, but with all the creature comforts. Kristy the host, is an artist, and the cabins are beautifully decorated. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

Love this location, it’s a 15-20 min boat ride out of Homer. Kristi was very accommodating after our original trip was cancelled due to freezing temperatures and the harbor freezing. We stayed in the tide pool cabin which was perfect for 2 people, very cozy, and views to die for! Saw a variety of ducks, otters and eagles right from the cabin. Beach combed for hours along both sides of McDonald spit! Saw star fish, jelly fish, and found lots of sea shells, sea glass and even some washed up pottery pieces! Winter time is nice here cause it’s very peaceful and relaxing! You can have beach fires if you want also! Can’t say enough about this place! We come every year and never get tired of it!

We had the loveliest and coziest weekend getaway in the Fisherman’s Cabin to celebrate our anniversary. The cabin had everything we needed to be comfy, and to create and share yummy meals with the best views. The outdoor shower was a highlight. We enjoyed there hot tub and sauna after beautiful walks along the beach at low tide (check out Nubble Point). Our favorite part was seeing the otters while Kayaking and using the rowboat they had available. Also saw dozens of eagles, jellyfish, and some whales off both beaches. Kristi was so kind and ensured we had a stellar stay, be sure to ask her about the fresh frozen fish. Julian was also very helpful in making our stay comfortable. We can’t wait to come back with our kids, next! A one-of-a-kind experience.

Your trip will start with a breathtaking water taxi ride from Homer. I was blown away by all the wildlife and mountain scenery. We saw whales, otters, eagles, and seals. Loved seeing the crabbing boat from the Deadliest Catch , the Time Bandit, docked on Homer.

When you get to MacDonald spit you’ll understand why everyone give this place 5 stars, it’s like no other place in Alaska and worth every penny. The most surreal scenery right out your door. Ocean views from your windows. Art infused everywhere. Helpful staff. Cozy, rustic decor. Everything you need to cook or grill, just bring your groceries from Homer.

Plan your trip around the minus tides to get the best tidepooling where you can find sand dollars, sea stars, octopus, sea anemones, and so much more. Walk down to red rock to see the most beautiful rock
Formations at the end of the spit .

We also loved taking the land taxi into Seldovia (15min ride). Plan to walk about 1/2mile from cabin to road and bring something to put berries in. In August the salmon berries were pooping! In Seldovia, we enjoyed watching people fish from the bridge, the cute shops and restaurants and the small grocery store.

We took a halibut charter out of Seldovia. Wish we would have tried halibut fishing from the kayaks at Bewteen Beaches as someone caught a very large fish that way while we where there.

Can’t wait to return! Maybe for 4th of July next year as Seldovia throws the best celebration for the 4th

We LOVED our remote stay at these cabins - just a 25 minute boat taxi ride from Homer. Arriving to this gorgeous strip of land, you'll see eagles, otters, and other wildlife in the most beautiful and peaceful setting. The cabins are right out of a magazine with all of their charming vintage touches, and Christie's ceramic artwork. Both Lachlan and Christie are knowledgeable hosts. We went towards the end of the season and kayaked, in the bay, enjoyed beach combing and relaxing. Note, 2 out of the 3 cabins have outdoor showers (but indoor toilet and sinks), but the water gets warm and the cabins have heat - so we were very comfortable. The linens and beds made for a great night's sleep too! Keep in mind, there are no restaurants or grocery stores (although you can purchase fish from the owners to grill), so you'll need to BYO all of your food and drink supplies. The cabin's kitchen had everything we needed! Can't wait to visit again.

What an incredible place, from the moment we stepped foot off the water taxi we were drawn in to each of the perfectly curated zones scatter throughout the property. The Beach House was fully furnished with all the necessities to make the inside feel like home and the abundant amenities allowed for outside exploring.

The host was so warm and welcoming and provided a vivid history of the property and tour of her art studio that made the stay even more special.

I rarely visit the same place twice but am already looking forward to coming back and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a wild yet relaxing destination vacation.

A true gem.

I spent the weekend with some of my girlfriends at Between Beaches, and it was absolutely breathtaking it’s hard to find words to explain how insane this place is, everything is thoughtfully designed from the luxury cabins with a rustic Alaskan flare to the beautiful salt water hot tub over looking the bay where you can see illiamna. The amount of history and art this place holds is so unique, filled with whale bones and installation art that will make your jaw drop. The amount of sea life we saw was so special harbor seals, eagles, sea birds and more. And the owner Kirsty is something else she did an outstanding job of making us feel all at home and making sure we had everything we needed. She is a true Alaskan badass. It was hard to choose which side of the property to stare at drinking my morning coffee with the pink and blue sky on one side and the golden sun shining off the water on the other. I can not recommend this place enough as a local Alaskan it’s an absolute bucket list place.

We stayed in the Cannery Cabin, facing Kachemak Bay. But just a few steps away is the OTHER bay! The pictures only hint at the natural beauty of this place. The proprietor's assistants, Jade and Nathan, were incredibly welcoming, responsive and helpful far beyond expectation. The new hot tub, the sauna...everything was perfect! Even though I had a cold for the first few days, I rested up really well in the comfy bed. I rallied for the last bit and tried to cram in everything in on our final day. This place is artfully and thoughtfully arranged so that you have all the privacy you want, or all the company. It's really up to you. We had everything we needed. You can pick up supplies in Homer or Seldovia, although I'd recommend buying most of your essentials before you come in, since you won't want to leave!
