Just did Fathers Day in Seldovia, Alaska. We stayed at the Sea Parrot. What an awesome place. The folks that worked there were so kind to us. Our room which was so comforatable and well decorated was convenient to all locations in Seldovia, especially the boat harbor where we arrived and departed from. The food was fantastic and I recommend the chicken salad !! The view from this charming place is incredible as well. My hubby and I soon realized that the little in was a gathering place for many of the colorful locals who gathered there for a coffee or ice cream and a chat. We were so lucky to be a part of one of these front porch gatherings. One old gentelman arrived and was speaking to another in such a comical way, they told us bear stories and fishing stories and we all laughed till we cried. Such a wonderful experience to be part of the lives of the people. As we people watched in Seldovia we saw a lot of interesting things. Right away we saw that people loved dogs in Seldovia, they could be seen riding on the back of the locals 4wheelers and trucks and boats. The people of Seldovia are welcoming and enjoy the visitors that come to town. They all do their own little part, whether it be old Joe telling you a story or Darrin who will haul your belonging up the ramp at the dock, or Sea Parrot owner Mary and her trusted assistant Nicole who will see to all your needs at the Sea Parrot, you will have a blast in Seldovia and if you are fortunate enough to get a room at the Sea Parrot you are twice blessed! I would highly recommend this place for anyone that needs to stay for awhile in Seldovia. I had the pleasure of staying there for 5 days and not only was the room nice, the shower wonderful with the tiling, but the owner Mary was the most absolute wonderful host. She also runs the little restaurant attached and could always count on having my coffee in the morning, watch the view and activities at the harbor from the front deck, and have wonderful conversations with her every day I was there. Could not have asked for a better stay. It was so relaxing and laid back. I already have plans to return to the area again in about a month or so, and planning on ensuring before I go, that this place has a room for me. can't wait to get back to Seldovia and I am sure if it is a good as the first time, will be staying here for many years to come.

Arrived at the Sea Parrot Inn at 1 pm checked to see if room would possibly be ready early. It was not and was told to check back at 3, normal check in time. No problem, we went for a walk around town.
We went back at 3:04pm. I went up to the counter and asked if we could check into our room, the young girl rolled her eyes at us and motioned us to Mary (the owner) like there was an issue.
Mary comes at me with reproach to tell me that it is a king room. I replied, yes I know. (I had reserved the room I was sharing with my 12yr old son.) Mary continues to berate me in front of her customers and staff, rambling on about how I didn't tell her that I was with a child, and that there was a place for me to tell her ahead of time on her website.
At this point I am dazed and confused. The website reservation clearly stated that children 10 and older are welcome, I never saw a place where I needed to give age on the website, I did however add his name where it was requested!
I again told her it was not a problem that we had a king bed. We were shown gruffly to our room, this woman was NOT NICE, and ACTED AS IF WE WERE a NUISANCE and DID NOT WANT US STAYING IN her establishment.
After we had settled our belongings in the room, we walked back down to the ice cream shop that Mary owns, she was in the shop complaining to the customers and her staff about me and my CHILD.
HOW UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
What kind of a business owner acts in such a manner?!

To begin with the positives, the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, the bathroom furnishings were especially high-end and nice, and the bed was comfortable. We had a different experience from some of the other reviewers, in that we did not find the owner to be helpful. Rather, we got the impression that it was an annoyance for her to have us around. We had planned to leave on the fast ferry, and we thought we had made certain that the ferry would be running on our day of departure. The owner told us she thought the ferry had finished running for the season, but made no effort to find out for us, and just continued to taunt us about it, right up until the moment the captain arrived at the dock to run the ferry, exactly per the schedule we had gotten from the company's website months earlier. The inn is conveniently located right across the road from the boat harbor and ferry dock. But on the other hand, everything in Seldovia is within easy walking distance of everything else. If I were visiting again, I think I might try another place.

Response from Mary P, Owner at Sea Parrot Inn
Responded Nov 2, 2014
Thank you for taking the time to review The Sea Parrot Inn. We value your opinions and we apologize that we did not meet your expectations. Being able to provide our guest with great service in Perry Café or outstanding hospitality at the Sea Parrot Inn is our main goal. In this case, the ferries running that day were in question due to the unpredictable weather and seas. Whether the ferries are scheduled to run or not it is my experience that the weather is our guide. That is why I went the extra mile and contacted the captains directly. My uncertainty must of giving you the wrong impression. It will be my objective in the future to be more informative in reference to ferries schedules. My hope is that if you do come back to Seldovia that I have the opportunity to sit down and have a cup of coffee and chat. Safe travels in the future and wish you the very best.

Just finished a great trip and stay at the Sea Parrot Inn June 14. Mary went out of her way to help us with many requests that far exceeded our expectations. (flat tires, dead battery jump, help for our fish we caught etc). I will be back and can't say enough good things about the Inn and it's host. Great breakfast, wonderful rooms, and good conversation, a perfect place to stay.

The Sea Parrot Inn is a comfortable, clean, and friendly place to stay. It was perfect after our halibut fishing trip! The "breakfast in a cup" was affordably priced and delicious. The host was kind and welcoming. Beds were comfy, too. A great stay at a reasonable price!

My wife joined me on this trip to Seldovia. I came to officiate a wedding. We were amazed at the attention to detail that went into the remodeling of the rooms, and how immaculate they were kept. We found the staff to be extremely helpful in making us feel at home, and in giving us ideas on where to go for site seeing. After a long hard day of travel it was nice to have one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. We discovered that our host Tim & Mary were very accommodating, and we enjoyed visiting with them and hearing their journey of purchasing the Inn, and making a business plan work. The view from the common area overlooks the harbor, and it is breathtaking. We highly recommend the Sea Parrot Inn. It is a great place for singles, couples, and families. The food is terrific, the service is wonderful, and the rooms are equal to any five star hotel we have stayed in.

Super nice place to stay. Just opposite the boat harbor with a comfortable second floor balcony withy great views. The whole place is decorated beautifully. All the furnishings are wonderful. There's a large and comfortable common sitting area on the second floor. Even the lamps look like fishing rods and reels. Our bedroom was decorated just as nicely and was also very comfortable and clean. Mary, who is a very thoughtful and informative host, has thought of everything. Night tables with lamps on either side of the bed, ceiling fan, plenty of space, shades for the windows, clean private bathroom. It was perfectly quiet for sleeping. Mary not only let us store our suitcase after checkout while we walked around town, but graciously allowed us to use the sitting area and balcony to relax when we were done walking and we were waiting for the ferry back to Homer. The included breakfast includes several choices in the first floor café which Mary also runs. I wish every place we stayed was as nice as this.

My husband, Mark, and I spent two years planning our 2018 Alaska Fishing Trip around a commercial salmon fishing experience we had acquired as a result of a live auction in support of the Iowa Children's Museum in Iowa City, Iowa. The salmon fishing day was scheduled for July 5th, 2018 and Captain Dan recommended we come to Seldovia to stay with Mary and Tim at the Sea Parrot Inn and enjoy the 4th of July celebrations. So we did, we booked our stay with the Sea Parrot Inn based on Captain Dan's recommendations and had a wonderful experience. The room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The bathroom and lovely shower were a welcome respite after our long trip from Iowa to AK and we enjoyed the home-cooked breakfasts.

I know Seldovia is off the beaten track - but, I recommend that you check it out and if you go - stay with Mary and Tim at the Sea Parrot Inn.
