\First the food was so bad I had to go to town to get fresh vegtables and a decent meal during the week. I have never seen brown corn before. The venison burgers were the worst, I would touch them and my husband tried one bite and couldnt eat it and he eats anything. No vegtables were ever served. The first meal, lazanza was only edible dinner. Luckily they had hot dogs and soup available. Just plan nasty food. The boats, were on their last legs, the benches were so bad they ripped your pants. They dont tell you you have to go a LONG way to get to fishing spots. If you didnt get a covered boat you were in for the most miserable trip. Freezing and wet. The staff was what kept us there from leaving. Fish were beautifully cleaned and held for us. The deck hands were amazing. The woman cook was very nice and her helper were great. The kitchen was beautiful if only any thought went into the meals. I guess they are the same exact meals every week. It doesnt take much money to provde good food. The guy "running the place" was very rude to us on the phone after we left. Got the feeling he could care less if we ever came back. There were pictures in the brochure of all this great looking fresh seafood and a roasted pig. That never appeared. They sit you with people, which is fine but would be good to change it up so you meet everyone. The "cabin" STUNK like pee to the point I had to close bathroom door and open window. I can do rustic but the stench ruined was unbearable. I went to town to buy air freshner and cleaner, didnt touch it. The room consisted of 2 bunk beds and a hard chair and little table. It was not a place to hang out. The lodge was only place to go that you could sit on a comfortable couch. They dont tell you there are fishing lodges on either side of you, very close. The whole area is huge and they piled 3 lodges right next door. The other lodges have TV's and nice rooms with a view. For being on the water we had no view. There is no where to go once you are there, no hiking. The town of Petersberg was amazing, I would live there 6 months a year. Gorgeous and the people are fantastic. Find somewhere else, anywhere else.…

Expectations were high when I signed up for Island Point. Bottom line is they have the worst equipment I have ever seen and am surprised they haven't been sued or shutdown for safety violations. Boats were very poor, no fire extinguisher, props were all chewed up, the life jackets probably wouldn't float although I didn't try one. The lodge is old, sleeping quarters in the lodge were ridiculously poor with no where to store your clothes or equipment. Food was adequate to good although you would expect something more than tacos and burgers for the price paid. Don't believe what they write in their orientation package, its an exaggeration at best or applies to a previous owner perhaps. The fishing rods and reels were very poor and appear to not be maintained at all. They charge you for most everything other fishing lodges provide as part of the package. I wouldn't go back if they provided everything free including airfare! You would do just as well renting a room and boat in Petersburg and going on your own. This is clearly an operation for maximum profit with minimum to no investment! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! (Watch for more reviews-most all of the 33 people there felt the same way!)…

Ask for a deposit back due to COVID-What do you think?? Island point lodge, Petersburg Alaska We booked a trip to Alaska for a fishing trip. We called to cancel our trip on March 30,2020 due to the Covid19. So I called and emailed the owner numerous of times to get our deposit back. He told us we couldn’t get our deposit back. We can book it for next year. I told him we don’t know what’s gonna happen next year we have been closed due to the Coronavirus. That we are at a stay at home order.,He told me that in order to get our deposit back we should’ve canceled by March 15 2020. I told him this was not normal circumstances. We fill out our information paper work for our deposit. No where on that paper work said anything about a cancellation date. We found the cancellation date timeline in a booklet he sent us. So basically he told me that good luck on getting our deposit back. Going to the bank and filling out paper work. What else can be done to get our deposit back? Oh my husband is a high risk. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬…

Franks crew is so helpful starting with pick up from the airport, to town for gear and supplies before they bring you by boat ride to the lodge. Once at the lodge, the same screw fuels your boat, takes up your catch, fillets the fish for you and will offer tips and advice on fishing in Alaska. The lodge feels like a family cabin on the edge of the Alaskan wilderness. Fishing for halibut and salmon is sometimes work and waiting on the tides, but always fun, and most often rewarding. It is so nice after a long day on the water to have home cooked meals and a dessert every night. We were thrilled to sleep on a new mattress in cabin 4. We were married in 2018 by Frank on the front deck of the lodge and we were so glad to return for our anniversary.

The people working at this lodge were friendly and helpful. The cook, dock hands, etc., all did their best to help. It goes down from there. Too many add on tasks, including telling a person how much to tip. The food was good to very good, but not always great as I have had at other venues. The room was too small for a crew of six and the room itself lacked many amenities like chairs (no room inside anyway). The lodge was uninspiring itself, although the peanut bowl was always full. The boats needed upgrading such as racks for fishing poles, net, harpoon, etc. to give a fishing team a little room. This was not a bad experience, the fishing was fun, but the lack of charm was obvious. My recommendation is spend the money to upgrade and raise your prices accordingly.

Our group of four was the only one that was new. The rest of the people had come at least five times. There was a bit of a learning curve for the first day and a half, but we figured it out. I limited on halibut, including a tasty 73lb fish. The salmon weren't running yet, just starting, but we did manage to get some. The lodge staff treats you like family, there were several nice surprises, including dungenous and snow crab steamed and served fresh on the veranda at least three afternoons. This is self guided, but with some effort and help from the staff, we had a great time. Food was abundant and quite good, we we're all very satisfied!

The trip and fishing exceeded my expectations, just as described or better. The fishing was great, the equipment was well kept considering the abuse it gets. The staff tripped over themselves making sure you were satisfied The meals were good and if you go hungry its your own fault, not 5 star dining, but damn good. Rebooked for next year before departing for home. We took home about 250 lbs of Halibut, and about 50 lb of Chinook and assorted bottom fish. Most of our Halibut spots required a 30- 45 minute run from the lodge and some of the spots were located in big water, being an avid Great Lakes fisherman this was not a deterrent, although a few guests we pointed in that direction were not comfortable fishing open water. There were a lot of big fish landed in more protected waters, so you should be able to find fish in waters matching your comfort level. Our big fish for the week included a 163 and a 109, plus all the smaller Halibut you cared to catch. REMEMBER this is "on your own " fishing and sometimes you do well and other times you need to work hard for the fish. No one to hold your hand, everyone at camp helped anyone who asked for locations and techniques, just remember DONT ARGUE WITH THE FISH, they will tell you what they want to eat,…

My son and I have been fishing with Island Point Lodge for 15 years. We have always brought back plenty of fish for our freezers. It is important to know that this is a self guided fishing lodge as the price reflects. Boat handling and some basic navigation skills will help you to get the hang of it. We found the staff and other clients helpful that first year and we still brought home lots of fish. The fish are there.
