Detailed Reviews
We are staying at the Nordic House right now and loving it.
Simple, carefully thought out lodging, overlooking the water,
with fabulous hosts. We echo all of the comments by other guest
about good value, great breakfasts, and supreme hospitality.
We live in Alaska, and without a doubt, this is our favorite place
to stay in the entire state!

I was so fortunate to find the Nordic House for an extended work trip to Petersburg. Room 4 (an entire private apartment) was spacious, clean, bright, and had everything I needed. Being able to cook in my own full kitchen was absolutely fantastic. This place was truly my home away from home. I felt completely safe, and enjoyed the short walk to town. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and kept me going all day! I'm looking forward to staying again! Thank you so much :)

Traveled to Petersburg on a business trip, and we were so fortunate to find this gem! Very quiet, clean and extremely comfortable. Fully stocked kitchen, outdoor grill, deck and waterfront view. Excellent location in terms of walking to town.

What a great visit to Petersburg! Cherise's hospitality was wonderful and we were well taken care of. The Captain's quarters were immaculate and the location great for a quick walk to downtown. They cleaned daily, which was a nice surprise. We highly recommend Nordic House.

This was one of the cleanest and friendliest Bed & Breakfasts my husband and I have had the pleasure of staying in. Its right by the harbor....an enjoyable 5 minute walk downtown past the many fishing boats moored there.
We got a twin room which had its own TV with cable, and every convenience you could possibly wish for. Ferry pickup, and drop off at the Airport on departure was included plus a nice breakfast, and it was much less than the Scandia House was quoting.
Petersburg was alive for the Little Norway Festival held annually each May. Its a great little town and we'll be back next year for the Festival.
Aussie travelers K.C. and wife.

Cherise was there to check us in when we got off the ferry after midnight. She actually had just picked up two other passengers from the ferry. While we were there she also shuttled another couple to the ferry, even helped them with their luggage. That is above and beyond the call of duty! We liked the "stocked" kitchen so we could eat on our schedule. Quiche, homemade muffins(blueberry with coconut), cereal, toast, fresh fruit, oj, and fresh ground coffee were more than sufficient. Thanks for two great days.

Since our Petersburg stay was for five days, we preferred having a full kitchen for occasional home cooked meals during our visit. (Sadly, Petersburg has a dearth of restaurants as of summer 2013.) Nordic House filled the bill. We were very happy with Nordic House's apartment; ie, room #4. In addition to the full kitchen, the apartment also offers a spacious living room with a couch, recliner chair, coffee table and a large screen television plus a comfortable bedroom. The bedroom has ample closet space plus I found a welcome iron and ironing board inside the closet, very useful for sprucing up a couple of wrinkled shirts in our suitcases.
The en suite bathroom is clean and tidy. No dark and dreary rooms here; lighting is good in the apartment with overhead lighting as well as table lamps. Note: Our room was located up a flight of stairs, as are all but one of the lodging accommodations at Nordic House. The downstairs suite is suitable for those who may find stairs difficult to navigate. Daily maid service is offered (changing towels, tidying the bathroom and making the bed).
Since our accommodation was an apartment we did not expect a breakfast to be provided. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Huge tasty muffins, jams and butter, cereal, milk, OJ, an egg quiche, coffee, tea, and fruit were stocked in the apartment daily, providing a very filling breakfast.
A huge plus is that Nordic House allows guests the use of their washer/dryer after 3 pm (housekeeping uses the washer/dryer during morning hours). The laundry is conveniently located right next to apartment #4. It's an honor system; as of July 2013, place $3.50 into the glass jar and you can launder your clothing, a huge asset if traveling for a lengthy time.
There is no scenic view from the apartment (windows look out onto Nordic Drive and the petrol station next door). However, one can take in a panoramic view of the harbor and sunsets from a very pleasant guest common area containing a sofa and chairs, a television, a dining table and a kitchen for guest use. There is also a grill should one feel like grilling some superb local wild salmon or halibut.
Wifi reception is good.
If staying at Nordic House one may find it optimal to reserve a rental car (book one from either Scandia House or the Tides Inn). The inn is within a lengthy walking distance of town; walkers may enjoy a leisurely stroll to and from town from time to time. However, if you are in a hurry, are tired, are hauling groceries or heavy camera gear, are experiencing a typical SE Alaska rainy day, or wish to explore Mitkof Island's old logging roads and beautiful rain forest trails, a car is a godsend.
One other point is that, typical of Alaskan private homes and inns in general, Nordic House requests that guests remove their shoes before entering rooms (leave the shoes in the hallway; no one will snatch them). You may consider wearing easy to slip on or off shoes and boots rather than lace up footwear to make life easier for you. If you prefer lace up shoes, consider bungee cord shoelaces; these great elastic laces make it easy to slip one's footgear on or off.
Nordic House exemplifies the welcoming hospitality of friendly little Petersburg. I highly recommend the inn.

Petersburg is a real fishing town surrounded by snowcapped mountain range and channels of the Inside Passage. We stayed for two nights at Nordic House B&B and couldn't have a better experience. As other reviewers said, this place is squeaky clean with modern facilities. The common area has a fantastic view of the harbor, mountains, and water. We sat on the water-facing porch watching bald eagles, ravens, and sea gulls flying by. We saw the fishing boats gliding on the calm water, returning from days out at sea. We imagined the fishermen being excited to be home, and ecstatic to sell their bountiful catch. The kitchen was well-stocked with breakfast food and Cherise, the owner, provided us with freshly baked muffins and tasty quiche for breakfast. The B&B lent us two bicycles for free. We were able to bicycle to the trailhead for our hike and then bicycle to the beach to see the remains of the native fish traps. Without these bicycles, it would have been difficult for us to go everywhere we went on time. Our ferry to Wrangle leaves at 2:15AM. Cherise was kind enough to let us stay past official check-out time and use the B&B's facilities until we depart for the ferry terminal. Unlike the reviewer who said that Petersburg is a "skippable" town, we really enjoyed our stay here. Everyone we met and talked to, from the lady at chamber of commerce information center, the rangers and archeologist at the Forest Service office, the kayaking guide, to other walkers on the trails, was extremely friendly and informative. An older gentleman staying at the Nordic House with us told us stories about how townspeople helped him when he were injured while vacationing here. We think Petersburg is a great place and Nordic House is an ideal home-away-from-home while vacationing here.

We spent four nights here in January, 2012, just to see Petersburg in the off-season, and had a great time. Cherise made us very welcome and fed us excellent baked goods (more than we could eat).
The rooms, common area, and kitchen are immaculate and well stocked. We bought halibut and salmon at Coastal Cold Storage downtown and cooked it for two evenings and these were some of the best dinners we've ever had on a vacation. We had fun watching videos on the big screen TV, and just lounging and reading on the comfortable couches with an outstanding view of the harbor.
We recommend this B&B very highly, and we would eagerly stay here again.

We had a great stay at Nordic House B&B and recommend it!
Nordic House is conveniently located on Wrangell Narrows adjacent to the small boat basin and just a short walk from the center of town. The facilities are clean and nicely furnished; there is a laundry on site. The view from the second floor deck is great (pictures "attached"). A continental breakfast is included and the rates are reasonable. The owner, Cherise, provided transportation from and to the airport and had lots of great suggestions about where to eat and what to do in Petersburg.
We would gladly stay at Nordic House again!
