Beautiful remote location, with brand new wood cabins right on the water with a little patio. Amazing scenic view of a stunning glacier. Super welcoming main room with restaurant, pool table and great, helpful staff! Highly recommend the two-hour canoe activity!
We were on a family drive vacation with a six-year old, and this lodge was a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors on the gorgeous Maclaren River. Yes, it is a hunting lodge with a few rough edges, but our cabin was clean and very comfortable, albeit with no ceiling fan, microwave or fridge. It needs that, since the lodge and adjacent bar were filled with people who still refuse to wear face masks. Thrilled when Zack took us on a ultra-scenic boat trip up the river to the Maclaren Glacier and his very cool camp. Can't wait to return for a canoe float trip in this spectacular tundra, high-peak setting.
We spent the night here during a Snow Machine Tour. It's right on the river and a Short Ride to the Glacier. Our room was nothing special, what you would expect, but clean and comfortable. The food was good and hearty. The view around the place in Winter is Spectacular. Nice Dogs.
This is a hunting lodge, so don't expect cleanliness or modern features. We stayed in the River View South cabin and it would be a perfect for 4 or 5 guys out hunting with their hunting dogs to stay in at the end of the day. The front door to the cabin cannot be locked from inside or out. The grounds around the cabins are full of large, miscellaneous construction equipment. The lodge building has friendly staff, good food, and lots of charm. The highlight was going on a 2 hour jet boat trip up the Maclaren River--do this if you can, it truely takes you into the wilderness.
I was there on a hunting trip and had some issues with my own personal boat. After Allen (McClaren River Lodge owner) helped me for a couple of hours to try and fix my issues - my boat was still dead in the water. Allen THEN offered his own personal boat to me, therefore my hunting trip could continue. The staff at the lodge were crazy fun individuals which made the bar life that much better after exhausting days of looking for the perfect moose. The food was fantastic and was changed up regularly. We thoroughly enjoyed the $5 infinite showers after having not bathed in a couple of days, especially after having to gut and quarter our downed moose. After using Allen's personal boat for 3 days and filling it up after each use, expecting to not use it the next subsequent days he continued to offer the boat to us until we had gotten our Moose. After 5 days of staying at their lodge we had gotten our moose and when it came to pay the final tab on the parking lot stay and boat usage I was shocked to see that they only wanted to charge us $50. To say the least we tipped them well due to their Extraordinary hospitality! I have even planned it already to stay with them next year and subsequent years from this point on, the country up there is amazing and alluring. - Steve and Sarah Carter. Soldotna Alaska.…
