We stayed at the lodge last year at the end of September and visited the prior year in the summer. You really owe it to yourself to take in all that the location has to offer. You really get a different experience dependent upon the time of year. From full foliage, to incredible colors of the leaves changing, to a snow covered landscapes, the time of year you visit and elevation you set your adventure offer differing picturesque memories. First, we have found the drive there is really beautiful with every changing photo spots, dependent upon the season and time of day. Second, the lodges are spotless and cozy, with incredible views from your porch and a fireplace to warm you up. Next the food at the restaurant in the main lodge is really impressive and worth driving there for dinner, even if you aren’t staying there. If you have the ability, I really recommend you take in an on site helicopter tour, which was one of the highlights of our lives. The pilots are fantastic and the scenery is like nothing you’ve ever seen. The lodge has always been staffed with down to earth people too who are really great to converse with at meals or any time of the day. This is also a tremendous place to base yourself if you want to explore the surrounding scenic areas. We couldn’t make it there this year, but always picture waking up in the early morning and stepping out on the porch and watching the sun rise on mountains in front of us, or seeing a glimpse of the northern lights at night in the late season. We miss this place and hope to be back soon. Check this place out for yourself, you’ll be glad you did!

We stayed one night on our way from Matanuska glacier to Whittier. It is off the beaten path, which we liked. The property is beautiful and we had great weather to enjoy it. Check- in attendant was great and very helpful. Cabins were spacious, clean, and comfortable. Loved having an electric kettle for tea since using the coffee maker to heat water always gives a little coffee flavor to the tea. ;) Having a couple of tea bags or hot cocoa packets in the rooms might be considered.

Helicopters start at 8 am and they are loud and you hear them throughout the property. My late sleeper teen found this interesting and annoying at the same time. ;)

Only reason for not 5 stars is the included breakfast. Breakfast is advertised to run until 10 am. When I arrived about 9:15 am, the dining room sign said closed, there was no attendant in site, and all of the chaffing dishes were empty. Stood there a few minutes and then went back to reception, who ensured me that breakfast was still open. Went back and stood a little while longer… still no one. Finally the receptionist went into the kitchen and returned saying that more food was coming. I enjoyed some coffee and a piece of toast while more breakfast was made. It was just all a bit confusing, but we were happy that a hot breakfast was included. As others have mentioned, it’s scrambled eggs, potatoes, reindeer sausage, toast (loved the peanut butter option), and oatmeal. We would definitely stay again.

My husband and I chose Knik River Lodges to host our wedding ceremony and reception dinner. We had initially set it up for 2020 but had to reschedule for 2021 because of COVID. We worked with Lars throughout the entire process. He literally wears every hat at the lodge so sometimes was busy and hard to get ahold of but he made sure we got exactly what we wanted. He booked the helicopter tour for us, he put together a great dinner menu, he allowed us to use his dogs during the ceremony (Tucker and Bones were great!), and he went above and beyond for our guests crazy requests. We set everything up over the phone and email as we didnt live in Alaska and had never been there. We brought 16 guests with us who all stayed at the lodge as well. Some had issues with the front desk clerical details but Lars made sure things were corrected and that they were all taken care of. The lodge was a perfect place to host our wedding. The ceremony backdrop of mountains was breathtaking. The reception room was clean and roomy, and our wedding planner had a great canvas to build on. The cabins were a nice mix of rustic and modern. They didnt have cable but had hundreds of DVDs to choose from. They had nice hot showers which are exactly what you want after a long day exploring, or partying, in Alaska. The helicopter access was a nice plus that we took advantage of. Cant wait to see the wedding pictures on the glacier! The food at Ravens Perch was delicious, we ate there for breakfast and dinner. We also enjoyed the wedding dinner they catered for us. Everyone raved about the cheesecake dessert and want the recipe. Overall everything was great! We even saw a moose cow and baby in the front lawn during our welcome dinner. Unfortunately no Northern Lights, maybe next time. 5 out of 5!

Many months ago when my wife and I were planning our Alaskan vacation, we selected Knik River Lodge for one of our weekends of experiencing what Alaska has to offer. We selected the dates, paid in advance, and reserved a helicopter flight to a glacier to go on a dog sled ride (located on the property).
The Fiday night before our weekend was to start, I received a call from Lars informing me the restaurant would be closed because they booked a wedding party that weekend. FYI: because this is in a remote location, the closest restaurant was at least 20 minutes away. So breakfast, lunch, and dinner, would have to be eaten in another location. To say the least, I was upset. My question to Lars was why did you wait to call me the night before because I'm sure the wedding party was booked at least a month prior to our arrival. Also, why wasn't takeout offered so we wouldn't interfere with the wedding party. Additionally, when asked for help from Lars about cancelling the glacier trip he said he would do what he could and call me back. Never heard back from Lars. So to save my money for the $1,000+ glacier trip, we made reservations elsewhere and traveled the 4 hours from Homer so we wouldn't loose our money. This is the first time I have given a 1. They deserved less.

I had planned a tour with Knik Glacier Tours and wanted to stay someplace close. I found Knik Lodge and was very pleased. We were a family of 7 and had three cabins. The cabins were very nice. Had a front porch and we could watch the helicopters landing and taking off. Mosquitos were pretty bad. Microwave and refrig. Breakfast was included. It was a basic breakfast but very good. We were traveling just after the state was opening up to tourist. Most places were struggling with being short staffed and not enough guests to have the amenities all up and running. Coin laundry and we used it. This lodge is many miles from any town so you will need to eat at their restaurant. Not lots of variety and was not real impressed with the food. We did do the dog sledding the next day and it was very convenient to walk from our cabin to the lodge and helicopter.

We came for the sight seeing. Jen was fantastic. She booked us on a flight seeing tour of the Knik glacier. We even went on a dog sled. We walked the glacier and saw wildlife. Pilot Zach was professional and knowledgeable. The hotel staff - mostly LARS. He was more than RUDE. When his daddy handed him the keys to the kingdom he forgot to teach him customer service. We were in a motor home and when I asked if there was someplace we could park or overnight he abruptly said absolutely not no overnight parking. No camping. No anything. Ok so we waited in the parking lot for our tour. About an hour before we were due to take off Lars, told us we needed to get out of the way for his dinner guests. He was not polite about it. We must leave the parking area for the “round a bout. I would just like to point out how rude he was and that he made an enemy of a patron that spent over $1500 at his establishment compared to a $50 dinner. By the way, parking lot was not full after our return.

Response from Lars Larson, General Manager at Alaska Glacier Lodge
Responded Aug 9, 2020
Hello, and thank you for your review. I apologize that your experience was less than expected. As an overnight lodging facility with guests paying to stay in cabins, allowing RVs to park in our lot would not be the best business decision for us as a hotel. I tried my best to point you in the right direction for places that host RVs as their business plan. Having a large RV in our lot during the busiest night of our week would hinder our restaurant business, and we requested that the RV be moved to a spot as to not take up so much of our small parking lot. I apologize that you feel you are an enemy, we never want to have that happen. Calling out specific employees and making assumptions is never welcome here. On the parking lot; During the course of your two hour helicopter flight through Alaska Helicopter Tours, we had the majority of our 5:30 - 7:30 PM dinner business, as this is the busiest time at any restaurant on the weekend. So, the parking lot would not have been very full after our guests had come in and left. I truly hope that you had a great rest of your trip, and apologize that we didn't make your experience the best.

Situated out of Palmer, this is located with an attractive view across a small lake when not shrouded in cloud. This is a very good reason for staying as well as the base for helicopter flights. Not my favourite stay in 10 days in Alaska. I found the bed uncomfortable and squeaky and the staff offhand, and soliciting tips, which I would have been happier to give if they'd been more pleasant and beer cheaper.

LOVED this place. It is so quiet and so remote it was a wonderful place to vacation. We had moose walk right up around the cabins and there were areas of the grass where they lay at night. The drive into the lodge is breathtaking and there’s much wildlife to see. The helipads for the glacier tours take off and land right here at the lodge. That is about the only noise around. But a bonus if you do one of the tours which I highly recommend. The restaurant on site, The Ravens Perch, is amazing. Not much on the menu but everything there is good. Desserts are to die for! Breakfast was included with the stay which is a great bonus to have. The ONLY thing I could suggest is an older team of housekeeping. Two teenage girls with no vacuum cleaner don’t quite get it. The cabins were not unclean, but I did ask for a sweep.

I was contemplating if I should rate them as 3 or 4. Location is definitely a huge advantage for this lodge. There is a nice view from each cabin. However, I wouldn't stay there for more than 2 nights. The hiking trails are limited and you have to drive towards Palmer anyway. You can do heli sightseeing which is amazing and highly recommended by it's expensive. Also the restaurant has very limited menu. Breakfast was super basic - just eggs, potatoes, raindeer sausage. Two days in a row it was the same food. For dinner you have about 5 options but they don't change it so you can quickly run out of options. It was convinient for us to stay there as we did glacier helicopter tour. However, after a day we were a little bit boread. Also the cabin is cool but the bed was uncomfortable so wouldn't like to sleep there more than two nights.

Alaska Glacier Lodge was an amazing experience! Set in one of the most stunningly beautiful places I have ever been, the cabins were incredibly clean and comfortable which made for a great stay after a long day of fun on the glacier and the surrounding trails. We had a chance to eat dinner at the Raven’s Perch which besides having amazing food, also has one of the grandest views of any restaurant. The entire staff was professional and attentive, communicating well to ensure that everything would be just right when we arrived. If you are looking to experience Alaska and do it in amazing style, Alaska Glacier Lodge is the place to do it!

We did not have a problem being in touch and had a great stay. My guess would be a technology problem since they are fairly remote.
