What to thank Bob for putting together a great bunch of employees. You would never know you just bought the place. We came so my husband could fish. Told him I’d try it. We had the best time. The fishing was exciting. The scenery was breathtaking. Our Captain, Bobby and his first mate Kurt were awesome. I felt like I was fishing with my brothers they had us laughing so hard. Kitty and Erika made should we were comfortable and met our every need. After a 30 hr trip getting there it was so welcoming. The food outstanding! Jeremy out did himself everyday. By far the best dinners we ever had.

First class all the way! The lodge itself is beautiful, very comfortable and situated right on the harbor. Rooms are large and fresh. Chef Jeremy is a true chef - meals were better than the nicer restaurants in Anchorage (made with freshly caught fish and locally grown vegetables). The lodge staff (owner Bob, Erika and Kitty) bend over backwards to accommodate every guest. The raingear is all new. The boats (2) are in perfect condition - heated cabins, full heads, top class fishing gear. The boat crews (Captain Bobby and First Mate Curtis on the Rodfather) are fish finding experts - and very patient teaching the various fishing methods. Minimal currents around Kodiak make bottom fishing much nicer than Homer or Seward. Each day offers a variety of fishing targets - halibut, salmon, lingcod and rockfish. I came home with 100 pounds of fish - and I didn't keep any rockfish! And Kodiak Island is beautiful! Thinking of fishing in Alaska? Go to the Kodiak Island Resort !

Here is my review of Kodiak Island Resort: Fishing - unbelievable and beautiful. Catching Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish, Salmon and many other species. Captain Jim is the best ever and just listen to him. He will find you fish and you will have the time of your life. Don't forget the crab pot! Food - Menu's were fantastic with different hor douvres, salads, main courses and desserts every evening. Start with a hearty breakfast every morning before going out. The brown sugar cookies were fought over each day. Lodging - the lodge is comfortable with numerous touches giving it both class and a fishing lodge feel. Staff was incredible and accommodating. Overall, my third time at the Kodiak Island Resort and I will be back soon for my fourth "once in a lifetime" trip. We also saw bears, whales, orcas, eagles, seals, sealions and sea otters. Don't miss the opportunity! - Johnny D

Great location. Amazing staff and crew. Wonderful accommodations and food. And the fishing was extraordinary! The crew made sure we caught halibut, Rick fish, salmon, Ling cod and mire. Everyday was a blast out on the water and the scenery was unbelievable!! We plan to go back every couple of years to see the staff and crew and restock our freezer with fish! Couldn’t recommend more!

My review will be in two parts. One about the fishing, and the second about everything else. I hope you find it useful. We fished 8/15/22 – 8/19/22. First the fishing. I am not a novice and have fished deep sea for marlin and sailfish, in shore for grouper, fly fished in Montana and many western states. But I have never done this. Something different in a very remote place was the lure that attracted myself and my group. It did not disappoint. We (our group had six in total) were assigned Captain Jim and first-mate Pablo on board “The Kodiak” which was a well-appointed deep twin hull catamaran ideal for traversing up to 10-foot swells and 40 mph sustained winds. Powered by twin 300 hp Yamaha outboards, we were always able to get where we needed to be. The on-board fishing equipment was a mix of well broken-in Penn reels and new Shimano gear on heavy 6-foot rods. All were well-maintained and no problems were encountered during our entire trip. We started off on Day 1 with a mix of fishing which was nice for everyone in our group to get used to the equipment, the boat and the crew. And the crew to get used to us. We caught a few nice salmon, 12 halibut in the #25-30 range, rockfish and ling cod. We fished different depths from 80 feet down to 400 feet with jigging and loaded bait rods. Very nice variety of fish and fishing techniques and a good way to start off the trip. Day 2 was a lousy weather day with rain and 30+ mph winds, but we were still able to fish. Mainly in Uyak Bay. Brought up 9 decent halibut from #20-30 and rockfish. The raingear provided was a solid performer this day keeping all of us dry and warm. The only thing I wish I would have done different was to bring better gloves. Waterproof all-weather gloves would have ideal. Day 3 brought us out to the Kodiak side of Shelikof Strait. The rains moved out, but the winds and 5-8 foot surf continued. Overall, a great day with lots of halibut, rock fish and we hammered the ling cod. Saw sea lions, pods of fin whales and porpoises this day that will not soon be forgotten. Day 4 saw us head out across the Shelikof strait to the Alaska side for arguably the best fishing of the trip. A few halibut, but mainly rockfish and ling cod. We caught the biggest and the most yellow-eye rockfish on this day, many over 30” and one stretching the tape at 33”. Before heading back, we went bear viewing along the southern beaches of Katmai National Park. We saw 10 different bears in about 30 minutes, one we were able to get within about 25 yards for some cool videos. Our last day found us worn out from the prior days and we opted to troll for salmon. We caught 19 this day including a few King salmon, so we were glad we all bought King salmon tags in addition to our fishing licenses. Overall, we each ended up bringing back a #50 box of frozen fileted fish all nicely vacuum sealed and frozen in a Styrofoam/waxed cardboard box. The staff did an excellent job cleaning and processing our fish for our trip home. No complaints at all! Be sure to check out many or our group’s pictures posted on Kodiak Island Resorts Facebook and Instagram social media pages. As for everything else, there is nothing but great things to say. Bob Gerondale, the lodge’s new owner, has spared no expense in improving what was already an amazing experience. Starting off with the food. Chef Jeremy seemed like he tried to outperform the previous night’s meal with something even better the next night. And crab night was amazing. Lots of fun to bring up those crab pots knowing that they will be tonight’s dinner! The lodge is clean, warm and inviting. Everything you could possibly need or want was provided. And finally, the staff. Can’t imagine a more friendly bunch of folks. Their smiles are friendly and genuine. When they ask how it’s going, they mean it. The service is exceptional all around. As you can probably tell, I am very happy with our entire experience at Kodiak Island Resort. I would highly recommend it for anyone seeking something new in a stunningly beautiful remote area of the world. The fishing is great and the people there are even better. Cheers!

Just finished a truly amazing 5-day fishing trip at Kodiak Island Resort. Outstanding in every aspect of the trip – hospitality, accommodations, meals and most importantly fishing. Travel arrangements for our group of 6 were expertly handled by the agent recommended by the new resort owner. We were coordinated from multiple locations to arrive together in Anchorage before our final legs to Larson Bay. Upon arrival in Larson Bay, we were greeted by the ownership and staff and given a brief tour of the village. After settling into our comfortable accommodations, we were briefed on the logistics for the next few days by our Boat Captain and the staff. Then came the first of our 6 nightly fine dining experiences. All the dinners are prepared under the direction of talented chef and presented as well as any fine dining establishment by the staff. Meals featured the full spectrum of freshly caught local seafood all expertly prepared. During our stay we feasted on: lingcod, halibut, snow crab, oysters, clams, and salmon. The Captain and Crew on the custom-built catamaran fishing boat were outstanding. The vessel itself was very comfortable for six anglers. Kudos to the management for limiting the vessel to six to provide the quality experience not found on open charter party boats. The boat was equipment with an impressive complement of commercial grade electronics which combined with the captain’s local experience allowed us to fish multiple structures customized for each target species. We caught halibut, yellow eye rock fish, lingcod, sea bass, king and silver salmon – all on targeted structure and by specific techniques. Overall the experience of visiting Kodiak Island Resort was great. From the ownership’s hands on approach to guest satisfaction through all staff dedication to the guest experience and of course the world class fishery.

Just came back from a fabulous fishing weekend at Alaska Kodiak Island Resort. My wife and I were very impressed with the warm hospitality we received from the owner Bob Gerondale and from his fantastic crew including Erica, Kitty, Jeremy, Bobby and Curtis. The lodge is clean and comfortable, the service is second to none, and our fishing experience was beyond our expectations. We would recommend KIR to anyone seeking a true Alaskan fishing experience in a first class resort with unforgettable service. Ramzi & Sunday Fawaz

If you’re looking for top notch bucket list experience in Alaska, this is it! The accommodations are spacious, clean and comfortable. The house staff knocked it out of the park with their hospitality. Erika and Kitty were terrific at answering all questions and informative on options of things to do, what to expect and how to prepare for excursions. The local owners of the lodge are very interactive with guests well. Heath and Bob Gerondale communicated daily on activities to do based on weather and our preferences. There is no shortage of activities around the resort. I went river and ocean fishing, kayaking, hiking, rode electric bikes and when I wanted down time, I would relax in the living room to play a variety of card/board games or watch movies. One of the best excursions offered, that is weather permitting, was to take a boat tour to Geographic Bay to see numerous Brown Bears. I was also able to see the famous Kodiak Brown Bears while fishing for Sockeye Salmon. How cool is that?! This was my first trip fishing in Alaska so I was a little intimidated in regards to my capabilities to reel in big fish as a beginner and petite gal. The head captains,Jimmy and Bobby, along with their deckhands, Curtis and Pablo, made it a fun and successful trip every time. They are exceptional at teaching techniques and coaching guests through it all. Being on deck with them makes catching world class fish possible for people even with little to no experience . Jimmy has been guiding people to the best fishing spots for nearly two decades with Bobby not many years behind. Everyday I fished, I caught BIG fish. A Yelloweye Rockfish I reeled in, was so impressive and cool looking that I decided I wanted it as a wall mount. The crew set me up with a third party taxidermy that is highly recommended. Along with that, I tipped the guys extra to extract the otolith (ear bone) as they are an additional trophy I can use to make earrings. The bones look like beautiful ivory feathers. Equally as exciting as catching the fish was tasting it after! I felt like I was at a five star restaurant. Prepared by their talented chef, Jeremy, each night’s dinner menu varied during my stay. A few people in my group have special dietary needs and he tailored their meals accordingly. Beyond what was prepared by Jeremy, the surplus of fish fillets were processed in house, frozen, packaged and labeled for me to take back home. I have 50 pounds of fish I caught to share with my friends and family now. I already tasted them all and I am excited to share the halibut, bass, lingcod, salmon and rockfish with others. To sum it up, my trip to Kodiak Island Resort far surpassed my expectations. This place is not only operated with great talent, but a lot of heart. I think this is attributed from owners being Alaskan born and raised. I really encourage anyone considering taking this trip to contact them and get your place reserved as space fills up quickly for the season. I’ve already booked my spot for next year. You’ll have the time of your life!

Came up to Kodiak Island Resort for a Fourth of July trip. Hands down best vacation we have been on thus far!! The staff was beyond what we could have asked for! Bobbie, the captain, was extremely knowledgeable of where to go for fishing. Jeremy, the chef, made us some of the best meals we have ever had! Erika, the resort manager, was absolutely the best at making us feel right at home! We will definitely be coming back!!
