Located downtown Ketchikan, within the heart of the Tongass National Forest, Cape Fox is set amidst this country's last frontier and offers the warmth of a north woods mountain cabin, reminiscent of a ski lodge. We have spacious guest rooms and suites with spectacular views of the forest, Deer Mountain or the waterfront community of Ketchikan.

It was clean, nice , comfortable, food in restaurants was good etc. It is a bit out of the way and up the hill which is great for the views (we didnt mind that at all), BUT the tram wasn't working when we were there, so we walked the stairs which unfortunately was lined with people smoking crack that we literally had to walk through breathing it in to get by, multiple times. The shower was always cold , have to leave it running for 10-15 minutes. They said you have to do that when it's cold , but it wasn't cold, at all. Little disappointing , but the staff was exceptional polite and shuttle driver (Ken) was awesome.

Terrible! Three of the drapes were torn and sagging so you could not have privacy at night. I have pictures to prove how bad! The bed was so high, I had to climb onto an arm of the leather chair at then crawl onto the bed. The coffee pot would not work so when I called the night desk clerk, he said if I wanted a cup of coffee from the reception area I would have to pay for it! Then he came up to find out it would ONLY work if a full pot was made . .not just one cup. He attitude was surly and rude! There was no grab bar in the shower. There was not bath mat outsde the tub shower The tile on the bottom of the shower had no non-skid mat. And, they charged me $390 for one night with NO MEALS INCLUDED. WARNING . . my accommodations were terrible. I have travelled over 80 countries . . and what I found here was unacceptable!!

Response from Jessica Marie, Guest Services / Front Office at Cape Fox Lodge
Responded Oct 3, 2023
We take pride in taking care of our guests and doing our best to ensure a pleasant stay. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. However, I feel your review is unfair. You checked in at 1pm but chose not to say anything to anyone until the middle of the night. Had we known you were so unhappy with the room, we would have gladly moved you to a different room. The curtains were not broken, as you stated. They hang differently in that room because they are held up by curtain rings and there are two sets of curtains to each window, giving you the privacy needed when you close both sets. They are not your standard curtains because you stayed in our honeymoon suite which you booked online. There are pictures online, so you know exactly what you are getting. The bed being too high for comfort is something you would notice the minute you walked in the room. We would never want a guest using other furniture to climb into bed. That is a safety hazard! Our Keurig maker is like all the others. You put a pod in and fill it with water. There are instructions on top of the machine. I am not sure why my night auditor said you had to buy coffee; we offer complimentary coffee in our lobby. I did have a talk with him regarding having a more accommodating attitude & for that I sincerely apologize. I truly feel this experience could have gone better, had you come to us and given us a chance to fix it in a timely fashion. I did refund all your money. I hope you have a great day! 😊

Great Location. Our room overlooked the town. The walk down to Creek Street was easy. The shuttle service was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned promptly. The bed was good. The shower was very good. I would stay here again.

Direct uphill climb (now all stairs) from Creek Street, nice views & sculptured totem poles out front. Worth the walk up to explore. Nice helpful staff, and I wasn't an actual guest. Restaurant on site.

We chose Cape Fox because of the tram, and the shuttle service. Nowhere do they tell you the tram has been broken for at least a year, maybe more? As for the shuttles, every time we asked we were told no drivers were available. The only way to get to the downtown area was down numerous flights of stairs or call a taxi. I'd hate to see anyone with the slightest mobility issue stay here, they'd be trapped. The rooms were adequate, the bed was comfy. The bathroom tiles looked like they could use a good scrubbing. Otherwise, the room was clean and comfortable. The coffee shop was never open, the restaurant was meh. I've never had such mushy fish and chips. The only bright spot was one bartender who was quite entertaining. The staff didn't seem to care about anything, we has to beg for a ride to the airport. I'm convinced the only reason we got a shuttle was another couple needed a ride too. We had to hoist our luggage into the van, while the driver stood there.

So sad! I grew up 1/2 block from this place while it was being built.I was the crown of the town!! Sorry I can’t say that today!! I came home for a couple day retreat with old friends and family and to stay at Cape Fox. Sadly it started with just trying to make reservations. Both Hotels.com and Cape Fox own web sites, said they were full. It’s early April……I called the hotel and not only was there rooms for rent but $60/night cheaper then any rooms on the internet. #2 complaint… the 1st night back home I leave my phone at my friends house, in the morning my friend tries to drop it off but is met with a front desk person that won’t accept it or acknowledge that I am a guest at the hotel!! Really??? Im here and the front desk guy won’t allow my friend to leave my forgotten phone off?. #3 At 0830 the maid knocks on the door to clean the room. Really!!! 0830!,?, #4 the maid doesn’t refill our coffee and the front desk says we have to come our supplies. So sorry this Ketchikan gem is only a 3 star hotel!! I won’t even give 3 stars.

Came on a whim unbeknownst what to expect and didn’t even read the reviews! We had a magical time. The views are breathtaking. The restaurant was delicious, and our server Kevin went above and beyond every time we came down to eat. The shuttle to and from the airport was quick, easy, and efficient. We chose to rent a car due to the rainy drizzle, otherwise within walking distance, though down the hill. The shuttle will pick you up from downtown. The gift shop has all the essentials plus some great local cultural souvenirs. Parking is plentiful. We felt very safe. We will definitely be back!

We stayed here at the recommendation of our fishing resport. Getting to and from the hotel to resort was made easy. The hotel staff was friendly. Resturant got good reviews but we ate in town. The room had a view of the bay. The room is average nothing fancy. It has its own a/c unit and allows fan to run at night which is great for white noise. The bed was average. The tram was not working so it mean walking up a steep hill to get from town to hotel. The hotel was completely full but common area was not crowded and done up nice.
