The longest operating self-guided Alaskan fishing lodge in all of Southeast Alaska. The waters in front of the lodge provide a natural corridor for salmon returning to local rivers to spawn. Silver salmon, particularly, move in large numbers through the area every summer as they return to several natural spawning grounds and a local hatchery.

I have nothing but good things to say about Silverking Lodge. The fishing is phenomenal, the staff is very friendly, and the food is better than any restaurant back home. Everyone goes at their own pace, some are out at 4:30 am, others between 5:30 am and 8 am. I noticed some people stay in the lodge and not go out some days. It’s very relaxing, breathtaking views of the water, islands, whales, seals, bald eagles and more. We fished half the time for salmon and the other half for halibut. A few tips for first timers:

1. Download navionics on your phone and pay the $14 subscription. The marine charts help you find the halibut holes and pinnacles and allow you fo pin on the map where you catch the salmon so you can hit those spots over and over. You can also record your routes so you know if you are anchored or not while bottom fishing

2. Pay the additional amount for a yellow boat, it rains off and on for a few minutes here and there and bring under the cover makes or breaks your trip. Also the down-riggers on the yellow boats give you a huge advantage over the skiffs.

3. Ask the staff for advice on where to fish, they want you to succeed.

4. If you are anchored for halibut, stay there a minimum of one hour, this is when the fun starts. Pay attention to the tides and fish the slack tides for halibut and don’t bother anchoring out south if the wind is over 7 mph.

5. When the bald eagles circle the boat, throw a salmon heads up and watch them grab the fish in mid air. Make sure you save a few heads for the larger halibut.

See you guys next year!!!

We took this shore excursion on our cruise on Majestic Princess. An entertaining bus ride of about 20 minutes bought us to the dock. There was light rain falling, but the jet boat was enclosed. The eagles on Eagle Island were roosting on a tree top on the far side of the island. After a 20 minute boat we arrived on the island that Silverking Lodge is locate. The feast was boiled in large pots and dumped out on the middle of the table. Crab, shrimp, clam, corn on the cob, sausages, potatoes and other items came out of the pot. Chicken was also available. A boat and bus rides brought us back to Ketchikan. I very enjoyable, low key excursion.

We took an excursion from Ketchikan called Alaskan lodge adventure and sea fest.
This took us to Silver King Lodge.
It was beyond amazing. First we’re the tame deer as we got off the boat, next we’re the unique carvings done by Cain saw. We then were taken on a tour into the rain Forrest by a young guide (Dorian) she was incredibly knowledgeable of the entire trail. Worth the trip alone.
The finale was boiled Dungeness crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, sausage, small potatoes & onions. Poured out on the middle of the table for 7 of us to eat.
It was perfect.
Oh & by the way before we went in the boat to the lodge, the captain of the boat threw mackerel into the sea so we could watch the eagles come in close up & personal to fetch the mackerel right out of the sea.
Fabulous day.

The food and service was amazing. The location is great on your own private island with beautiful views all over. A small bonus is the trail holding Alaska’s largest sequoia tree. Fishing is also great the best part is it is not guided. Island also has WiFi. On the island there are deer that you can feed and eagles all over. All in all the trip is a 10 out of 10.

The experience at Silverking Lodge was beyond anything I could've imagined. The staff were beyond helpful and friendly. The food was the best that I've ever had on a vacation and was served with such a friendly attitude. The young men and women on the docks set us up every day of fishing for success. I hope to make this a yearly tradition.

Been going to this lodge since 1989. This year we took twelve couples and had the time of our lives. Great fishing? Yes!!!, But that is only part of what makes this place special. Beach-combing, flight-seeing over Misty Fjords, bear watching, whale watching, hiking, exploring, nature trails, and oh....did I mention the food!!! (Thanks Brad)
Amazing place and amazing people make this one of the best memory making destinations that you could ever experience.

Spent a week at SKL at a family reunion. The staff, amenities, food and weather were great! I’ve been there many times and even if the fishing is slow (not often) it doesn’t disappoint. Highly recommend SKL if you are thinking about going fishing in Alaska.

WOW! This was my first fishing excursion experience ever and it didn't disappoint AT ALL! First off, the staff is unbelievably friendly and they make the guests feel right at home.
The fishing was phenomenal! We caught a wide variety of species of fish. The only downside was the silver king fish weren’t keepable as per the Fish and Game of Alaska. Which is no fault of Silver King Lodge.
The food was crazy good. Brad the cook, and his helpers do an out of the ball park job with the food. It’s home cookin’ and it’s delicious.
Jeremy was very accommodating and makes every effort to make it a positive experience for you.

I would recommend this place to anyone, 100 times over.

We were part of a trip from a cruise ship to view Bald Eagles and enjoy a lovely shellfish meal. Admittedly we were a little sceptical of seeing any Bald Eagles but were we pleasantly surprised. A fantastic time was had, even though short, we could not believe how close the eagles came. We are unable to review the accommodation as we were only there a few hours but the hospitality was so, so brilliant.

Do you have other options to reach the island than by float plane?
Answer from Keith R
2 contributions
Yes. A few options. If you rent a yellow boat from Clover pass resort you can drive there by boat. Or they have a Fairey boat that will take you to the resort. When we went back in august, they didn’t have the option for the float plane. Not sure if that was due to covid or what.

Reeling in them fish should be workout enough! Hahaha No gym, but excellent hiking. We went on a five mile hike and it was a good sweat. The hike actually goes further but we stopped midway. There is a pretty cool little trail behind the lodge that you could get creative and get a workout in.
