The lodge is great, the food was excellent and the fishing was next level. The guides were knowledgeable and really worked to put us on the fish. I stayed with my brother and two sons and fished for 5 days and caught limits on 4 of the 5 days. They have really figured it out and every aspect of our trip was seamless. Make sure to do the fly in to Wolverine Creek - limits of sockeye within 25 feet of bears!
The atmosphere was relaxed, inviting and homey. Glenn and Karen were great to visit with and the meals were stellar. My husband wants to go back just to sleep in the beds! We had amazing guided trips and met some fantastic guides. We can’t wait to go back.
Can't say enough good things about the Lodge , staff, food, and fishing guides. We fished for trout (catch and release ) and caught too many to count. Plus some of the rainbow trout were the size of salmon. As far as Salmon fishing went. We limited several days and I'll be eating fish the rest of the Year. The guides knowledge, skill, and friendly personalities made fishing a major success. Meet some new friends (guests) and saw some fabulous wildlife on and off the River. There were Moose, bald eagles, seals and a brown Bear. Everything exceeded my expectations. It was a trip of a lifetime.
My dad and I stayed at Alaska Hooksetters this August, and the service as well as fishing was excellent. If you want to have an amazing fishing trip in Alaska without worrying about where to fish or get your next meal this is the place to go. The lodges themselves are clean and comfortable it is easy to get a good night's sleep. The food is amazing, I was especially impressed with the to put you on the fish. I fished for silvers on the Kenai and Kasilof, and Halibut out of homer. Everyday the guides went out of their way to ensure we went home with some really nice fish. Overall I was extremely impressed Alaska Hooksetters and Russell Fishing they exceeded my expectations, I will be returning to Alaska and it will be with Alaska Hooksetters and Russell Fishing.
Went back to Hooksetters with a buddy and used Russell fishing to plan 6 days including 2 salt with one mixed species, two flyins (Kustatan and Chuit rivers) and one Kenai and one Kasilof. Food at Hooksetters was great as always as was the accommodations as we stayed in the basement of the main lodge this time. Glenn, Karen, Karmyn, Heather made things great!!! There are a lot of options but it does not get much easier or nicer with Hooksetters and Russell Fishing. I will post separately for Russell and Alaska West Airlines but I would not use another guide service as these guys know great service, setting expectations, and continued follow up
First time trip to Alaska for my brother and Hooksetters made it a trip of his lifetime. Dinners were better than advertised, the fishing out of this world and of course all of the staff were great in making us feel like royally!
My dad, Kipp, my uncle, David, and I just returned from an amazing trip at Hooksetters with Russell Fishing. Out of 5 stars, I'd give them a 10! They more than exceeded our expectations of our first trip to Alaska fishing. We've done some guided fishing trips before and the guides with Hooksetters are top notch! They're friendly, knowledgeable, and put you right on the fish. We limited out almost every day and even if we didn't, we had an outstanding day fishing and talking with the guides - learning about the local area and ecology. I'd be remiss without talking about the food - oh gosh! I'm a big foodie and I planned on having standard fare for dinner each night. I was so wrong! Every night we had a meal I could have easily spent lots of $$$ on in a high-quality restaurant. Halibut, salmon, seafood linguine, tenderloin - with the best desserts also. Including strawberry-rhubarb crisp, my dad's favorite. The highlight of the evening, though, was sitting around the campfire sharing fishing stories with Glenn and all the other guests. We also saw a lot of animals including an almost nightly walk-through of Moose. I thought this was a once in a lifetime trip - but now we are already planning another visit back to Hooksetters. Once is just not enough!…
This was our 2nd year at hook setter and 4 th year with Russell fishing. We had a outstanding time lots of fun, first class service and great food. The fishing was outstanding. Karen, Glenn and Carman made out trip so wonderful and relaxing. We already booked 2019
Just returned from my second stay at Alaska Hooksetters. The first time was excellent and this time was even better. The accommodations are quite comfortable and the food is good. Fishing trips are very well organized and tailored to your interests. They now have their own boats and guides through Russel Fishing which assures quality guides and very good equipment. The total package that Alaska Hooksetters/Russel Fishing offers would be hard to beT both in quality and value. Of course, it didn't hurt that the weather was nice and the fish were cooperative. Recommend Alaska Hooksetters without any reservation.
This was our 5th trip to Alaska Hooksetter Lodge and our third time to stay in the lower rooms in the lodge. The "lower" rooms consist of three bedrooms with a common living room and a single bathroom. This is the perfect setup for our group. The rooms are clean and comfortable, one has a queen bed, one has a double bed and the third has two twin beds. The common room has a sofa, coffee table, arm chair with an ottoman and a small refrigerator, a television and free WiFi. The property has a covered firepit and plenty of firewood for those chilly Alaskan summer nights. Lodge guests gather at the firepit after a day of fishing or sightseeing to enjoy hors d'oeuvres and fish stories before dinner. Dinner is in a spacious, but cozy yurt with a low doorway (for those of us 6 feet tall or more). The food is excellent and the portions are generous. Glenn and Karen, the hosts, do everything they possibly can to make sure you have an enjoyable and memorable stay. It is a great place to stay during an Alaskan Fishing vacation with Russell Fishing. You will quickly feel like part of the family.…
