We had a one-way cruise out of Juneau to Vancouver and needed a place to spend one night before our cruise left the following day. The check-in process was fine as we were there when it wasn't crowded (late afternoon) and the staff were friendly. The rooms are what you might expect from a Best Western and meet the needs of an overnight stay. The rooms are small and the decor is "dated". You can tell this is an older hotel. That night, we enjoyed a drink in the bar and had a great bartender who gave us information about what to expect on our day visit in Juneau. They had strong pours on the wine and the atmosphere was lively. We asked for a late checkout and they eventually allowed it for one room (we had two) so we didn't have to stow our luggage and had a place to relax before we were to board our cruise. It was within walking distance to our ship, but we opted for a taxi due to light rain. It is walking distance to many restaurants and bars as well as the Capitol Building and the Alaska State Museum.…
Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Juneau for the first time. I love this hotel, I love its history and how quirky it is! The hotel could do with a facelift, however considering it’s survived a pandemic with 2 years of no tourism I’m pleased it’s still open and it’s decor is appealing in a retro way. We had a king suite on the 7th floor which was lovely, very comfortable bed and room was clean and had everthing you needed. No air conditioning but the room has windows which open fully and there are fans in the room (which we did not need to use) The staff I came into contact with were friendly and they have a laundry room you can use (accessed through a separate entrance to the left of the main hotel entrance) for $4 I also saw a gym, plenty of working areas and there is an ATM in the lobby alongside a restaurant and bar. I did not eat here, however enjoyed a drink in the bubble bar which was very nice! Great location as a hotel and we were lucky to have some amazing views of the cruise ships docked. I would happily stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone…
I stayed here twice during September. There’s not a lot of choice in Juneau and the location is central, but- first stay I was on level 5, it was so noisy, I could hear people taking next door and there was a lot of street noise. Second time I was on level 9, heater didn’t work, only two lights working and the shower head sprayed more water into the floor than in the shower. Give breakfast a miss, Buffett is not nice. Staff were ok. Lots of cruise staff stay there between change overs.
Great location but that's the only positive. This hotel is old and dated and in desperate need of an update. Both the sink and bathtub drains were clogged, no hair dryer in room, and I never received maid service. In my opinion this hotel is overpriced and I would not recommend it.
We stayed over the 4th of July weekend, one of the warmest weeks in Juneau in recent times. The property lacked air-conditioning and our only relief was a small 12" fan that we had to put in the window. The common areas were extremely hot as air circulation was minimal. The building is a beautiful building, but needs some restoration to bring it back to it's once great glamour. Being an older property, the rooms are small and a bit our dated (property is seasonal, so understandable). On a side note, daily housekeeping was conducted unlike the brand I am loyal to and diamond with, where you have to ask for housekeeping. Probably one of the better hotels in Juneau, but if you are looking for a full service property, this might not be the choice.
We stayed for 3 days in August and we were horribly disappointed. The building is old, which I love for the character, but heating and cooling system was awful. I called the manager he did nothing about it the first night we almost suffocated. The engineer came in the morning and said he had to go downstairs and cut the heat off. The room cooled down then that night the heat came on by itself and the room was hot again. I called the manager and was told the manager was gone and their was no manager on duty. The person that answered said that heat should be off and was not. There is no room control to adjust the heat which was electric heat along the baseboard.. There was no air conditioning, but there was a fan. We left it running for the entire stay with the window open. It was in the 60’s during our stay and I have no idea why it was so very hot. the manager never called me back to address the issue and many calls looking form he was either at his car or not there. They had fans in the room that did not cool the room down. Our final issue was the cleanliness. The whole building and rooms could use a deep cleaning but overall i was uncomfortable and horrible stay. DO NOT STAY THERE IT IS A WASTE OF YOUR MONEY AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SLEEP BECAUSE THE ROOMS ARE VERY HOT AND MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CARE.…
Older hotel in downtown Juneau. The room was very small and the view from our room was not good though we did see 2 eagles perched in a tree searching for prey. What made this hotel deserve a 4 star rating was its location right downtown wirh multiple restaurants and shops within easy walking distance and the most comfortable bed we have ever enjoyed in a hotel. Also the front desk staff were excellent. They were personable and professional and very helpful during our stay. Not sure if there is a better choice in downtown Juneau but if we return to Juneau will likely stay there again because of the staff and bed.
I asked for skim milk for coffee this morning at breakfast. The server said “we don’t have any.” I said “what kind do you have?” She said “none.” I looked at her in astonishment. She then said, “honey, you are in Juneau. Everything comes in by barge. So we don’t have any milk.” The barge arrives on Wednesday! Today is Monday! Doesn’t the GM have a Costco membership? Not acceptable for a top rated hotel!!
We stayed for 3 days in August and we were horribly disappointed. The building is old, which I love for the character, but systems were problematic. The first room, toilet wouldn’t flush so we were moved. I’m not sure if it annoyed them that we complained about the plumbing but they put us in a room that barely had space to get around the bed. There was less than a foot between the end of the bed and the bureau. The drawer handle protruded 1 1/2 inches and I ended up with bruises on my legs because there wasn’t enough space to walk through. The plumbing in the new room did work, but you had to hold down the handle. However, both rooms were really hot. The signage stated the heat should be turned down on the electric heat along the baseboard. It was already turned off and it was still suffocatingly hot. There was no air conditioning, but there was a fan. We left it running for the entire stay with the window open. It was in the 60’s during our stay and I have no idea why it was so very hot. Our final issue was the cleanliness. There was never any bag for the ice bucket. Our toiletries were partially used when we checked in. We had to ask for the room to be cleaned and go to the desk for soap when if ran out. They would make the bed and wipe off the bathroom counter, but overall i was uncomfortable because if i could see that much uncleanliness what was I unable to see.…
There was a long line to check in, under most circumstances I can accept this but almost every customer had a question which the desk clerk could not answer. The manager was then called to assist and he was very rude to almost every customer with an issue. Ranging from not able to accept a debit card when the customer was there paid in advance from their employer, another customer wanted a late check out and was refused and another customer questioned his bill having different rates for different days some being way higher than quoted and when the manager was questioned about it, he told the guest he can check out and stay somewhere else if he didn’t like it. I took this personal even though it wasn’t me he spoke to and checked out the next day and found a way better rate at the Four Corners with less noise. I could hear the guest on one side of me snoring all night and girls in the room by my head board having a party and shouting in Spanish. I called to complain and it took 20 minutes to resolve the issue. I will never stay at this hotel again and strongly recommend other travelers to find other accommodations. I would rather sleep on a park bench than stay at this shoddy hotel.…
