Stayed five nights recently at the Beachside Villa Apartments. Let me begin with the positives—the apartment was large with full kitchen—no dishwasher—large bedroom and closet, comfortable living room, nice bathroom, washer and dryer. It was warm and cozy. There was a jetted tub in the bedroom. It was clean. I have no complaints about the apartment. Now for the problems. Beware of hidden charges like the added $125 cleaning fee. When I originally booked the apartment through Booking.com it was four four nights with a total cost of $1200. I came in a day early adding one night. Imagine my surprise when I was charged $1800. Since there was no itemized bill and only a credit card receipt in the room I am not sure where these charges came from. I never saw the apartment manager or any staff to question the charges. There is no front desk or office. So beware of the hidden charges. There are more than 30 outdoor steps leading to the apartment. They were quite slick and treacherous especially with luggage. If you have trouble with stairs, not the place. Also, beware have the inn keeper arrange local tours. Originally they offered to book a bear watching tour to Pack Creek at a cost of $1600 for one person. It fell through so I booked with Alaska Seaplanes at half the cost—$800. There was no clean linens in the five nights, no room touch up, no breakfast items. You are on your own. While apartment was nice, it certainly wasn’t worth the more the $350 per night I was charged. It definitely was not what most would consider “luxury apartment.” Much less expensive places for what you get in Juneau. I’ll stay at Sheraton or another hotel for 1/2 the cost.…
My wife and I needed a getaway weekend to recharge. Beachside Villa provided just that and more. Easy to find and a great base for touring or visiting attractions. No hassle parking. Susan is pleasant and personable. We rented her Harbor View room for three nights. The exceptional cleanliness and Susan's personal attention to detail made it that much better. Jazz music and a large Jacuzzi tub - so romantic. The deck just outside our room provided great views of downtown Juneau, the mountains, and wildlife. We took the Tracy Arm boat tour on Susan's recommendation - it did not disappoint!
First, the rooms were very clean. But there was no bang for the buck. There are 30 very steep steps down to the rooms - not recommended for anyone with disabilities. The breakfast was subpar. We had rolls from the grocery store, yogurt with the clearance sale tag, oatmeal was instant packages and hard boiled eggs. Breakfast was left in our room the day before, so nothing was fresh. Not what I call gourmet, as the selection sheet indicated. Finally, a luxury accommodation should have done amount of service - we had zero interaction with our host. This was a most disappointing experience and not worth the money.
We stayed in the Penthouse Honeymoon suite and didn't want to leave! Sadly, we only had one night at Susan's beautiful place. She was even kind enough (on request) to make sure we had some cheese/crackers and great Alaskan beers in the room on arrival! The place is absolutely charming and our view couldn't be beat! We had an incredible view of downtown Juneau and the cruise ships coming and going. Beachside Villa is across the bridge from downtown and a quick drive in. My only regret was that we didn't get to visit with Susan more - her story of how she ended up in Alaska is fascinating! Thank you Susan for everything. We will be back!
This was a great place to stay in a great place to stay the 2 weeks we here, Juneau Alaska!!! Susan was more than a great host, she gave us tips on trips to take while we were here and always had time for her guests and helped all in different ways. We had a great time here and I know you will too.
