Auke Lake Bed and Breakfast was fabulous. Located on the quiet and serene lake, we were able to relax in the Bed and Breakfast while venturing out to view fabulous glaciers and extraordinary views.
The owners are friendly and very happy to make any request filled. Highly recommend their accommodations!

This place is about 10 miles away from town. Close enough to eat and shop, but far enough away for peace and quiet, and very close to Mendenhall and a small boat harbor for whale watching. We stayed in the Serengeti room, which I believe is the nicest. Great lake views and quiet. Jessica, the inn keeper is maybe the nicest person you will ever meet. She made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. I highly recommend this place. One thing to note, you have to climb some stairs to get in and out of the rooms. Not a problem, but good to know if you have mobility problems or heave luggage.

This is one of those places I hate to tell folks about, but it's unlikely we'll be back this way for a while so I guess other people should enjoy it too.

It is a great spot. The room we stayed was spacious and very clean. They do need to remove the bathrooms. The toilet didn’t flush well. The fixtures and cabinets inside the bathroom are dated. Jacuzzi and canoes and laundry facilities were a nice touch. They ha e a great bbq area. I would stay again

Arrived late afternoon, looking forward to the hot tub but not forewarned it was not in service.
Not greeted by anyone, never saw hosts.
There are no taxis at the Auke Bay ferry terminal and most are not happy to drive all the way out from downtown for a short ride. I was lucky to have been offered a ride by someone leaving the ferry at the same time and actually lived on Mendenhall Loop so it was not too much out of their way.
I could have tried to kayak, but took a hot shower instead. There was an invitation to use the laundry facilities so I did.
Directions to the breakfast part of the B&B are for drivers. It's over a mile to walk there and $15 did not cover food and coffee.
Waited 45 minutes for bus to get to downtown.
I was planning this trip and making reservations late in the season, you can probably find a better experience.

Dale and "Honeybee" are about as warm as a rainy day in November.

The place was dirty. The stuffed animals, skins and animal parts are just plain creepy.

I have stayed in many B&Bs and have never been so disappointed in the low level of service and total lack of hospitality. The location is quite lovely and a new owner could probably make this place delightful. But as it is, it stinks.

I guess the owners' friends and relatives must get better service because they wrote some nice reviews. What a shame there is no truth in them.

My wife and I stayed for two nights at Auke Lake B&B, in the Timberline suite, which is big and beautiful, and has a wall of windows giving a breathtaking view of the lake. The bed and shelving unit that divides the room are of handmade timber construction. (The bed is quite high, and they provide a step stool for the vertically challenged.) We didn’t get a good look at the other suites, but I think Timberline must be the best because of the size and the view. Jessica, who manages the place, is a gem. We arrived early from a cruise, seeking to leave our luggage while we went off to see some sights. Jessica welcomed us, told us where to leave our bags, and offered us some breakfast. We gratefully accepted, and she sat with us while we ate, giving us advice on what to do and where to eat. She also formally introduced us to the inn’s friendly chocolate Lab, Hershey. When we returned after visiting the Mendenhall Glacier, we rested on the deck with Hershey, and met HoneyBee, who also welcomed us and offered advice on local attractions. Dale (who had built the furniture in our room) was away, so we didn’t get to meet him. The next day, we used the inn’s kayak for a tour of the lake, and then took HoneyBee’s suggestion and took a forest hike around the lake. This was one of the most enjoyable hikes of our trip. The stay at Auke Lake B&B was the perfect end to our Alaska trip. There are places to stay that are closer to downtown Juneau, but they surely lack the beauty and charm of Auke Lake B&B.

I use tripadvisor and other rating sites whenever I travel. I found the 3 negative reviews done on this property very interesting but as they were the exception and the glowing reviews more common I went with this B&B. I am glad I did. I just reread the negative reviews that were done and as a non-friend, non-family member I can tell you that you can ignore them and concentrate on reading the positive reviews.

My wife and I stayed at Auke Lake from Monday to Friday of last week. It was a rainy week in Juneau but we had a great time. On Monday we arrived early and were welcomed warmly by Honeybee as well as Crystal and Jake. Dale and Honeybee are the owners and I had a chance to meet and talk with them during the week. It was fun to to Honeybee's picture at the airport (look for it right after security) and in the paper as she is also a local realtor. They were both welcoming and open. There are some rules in the house about use of the the downstairs after the morning but they are easy to live with. Other B&B's have common areas open 24x7 which is not the case here. However, they do have a large deck with hot tub and a closed in gazebo with grill. Crystal and Jake are a nice young couple. We interacted primarily with Crystal as she takes care of the operations. She tried to help us with whatever we needed. Everyone was a pleasure to work with.

The rooms were great. We were in Lakeside which had a full bath (shower), bedroom and sitting room with tv and frig. The frig was stocked with water and cokes upon our arrival. There were also snacks including popcorn. We had a few challenges, primarily user error, with the TV and blinds which received prompt attention. WIFI was excellent and included. THere is a washer and dryer which we were able to use. It came in handy during a week where clothes got wet and dirty.

Breakfast was basic and served buffet style. Breads, muffins, waffles, fruit, juice, yogurt, soft boiled eggs in the shell, instant oatmeal, granola bars, and coffee and tea. Not your made to order breakfast as at some B&B's but very flexible. This came in handy as we were leaving early on Friday so dale set up breakfast for us earlier then normal.

The location was great. Near Mendenhall Glacier and the marina which several of the Whale Watching trips go out from. We received a "local" rate with one of the companies as we didn't need a bus from town to bring us out. Once you find the location there is no problem. The first time however you want to come in during the day. If you come out the highway from Juneau make sure you turn right on the second occurrence of Mendenhall Loop road (called Back Bay Road or something close to that on the sign). The driveway back to the B&B will be on your right after crossing a stream. Make sure you have the address with you. Look for the mailbox with the flag.

We took advantage of the canoe to take a cruise of the lake, the hot tub to relax after a busy day, and the gazebo to cook up a salmon dinner with fresh corn on the cob.

We had one morning which was a bit hectic when a family with 6 small children chose to have breakfast at the same time as my wife and I. I was thinking that this isn't what I expect at a B&B, more like a Hampton Inn. However, I later learned that the hosts opened up their B&B to this family for one night as they couldn't find any other accommodations in Juneau. I felt bad about my impatience and it reinforced my opinion that the team owning and managing Auke Lake B&B are good people.

The rooms were not very clean (hair in bathtub, mold in coffee pot and toilet clogged). The rooms were adequate but there was not common area except outside. Our week was very rainy and cold and the outside area just didn't work. We did not feel welcome and in fact felt as if we were imposing even though we paid premium for the rooms. Location is very pretty but probably would not recommend to fellow travelers. We just felt too uncomfortable and certainly not cozy with all the stuffed animals staring at you.

We stayed at this bed and breakfast as a family of 4. My husband and I stayed in the Serengetti room and my boys shared the Alpine room. The house is very nice and clean. Jessica the host was very helpful, she gave us many tips on what to see and where to go. While it rained the entire time we were there so we weren't able to get out in the kayaks and canoes as planned, we still enjoyed the views of the lake from the house. We did use the hot tub, it was a nice bonus! The trail near the house thru the woods was beautiful, although I would recommend driving to the near trailhead as the road was very busy.

...no common space to hang out during the day. This BnB is located on the shore of Auke Lake and affords a beautiful of the lake. It is generally quiet and peaceful here. They have 5 rooms: two have lake front views and are nice and large. Two other mid-sized rooms are comfortable: one overlooks the driveway, the other looks to the side yard. Both also have small sitting rooms, one has no windows while the other has a view of the lake although the deck is right outside the window so anyone sitting there looks into the room. The last room (the Alpine) is small and very snug with limited storage. The breakfast is a very hearty expanded continental breakfast. They have a canoe, two kayaks and a paddle boat that you can use and getting out on the lake is very beautiful. They have a gazebo that has a smoker in it that is available to use and I found it to be a nice place to hang out when it was raining. Our biggest issue is that the spaces in the main house are only available to guests during breakfast (7-9a); otherwise, they are reserved for the homeowners. If you are in one of the two largest rooms then I guess it would be okay but in any of the other three rooms, it becomes very closed in on those days when it is raining too much to be outdoors or if your group is spread out in several rooms - there is no common space to gather. Prices are very reasonable compared to other accommodations in the area. It works best if you have a car but the public bus goes by the road at the end of the driveway every half hour.

Hi Ssteinfort, We would recommend calling a taxi when you get into town to get to and from the airport or ferry. There is a bus stop just down the road from us that will take you into town and to the glacier. However, we would recommend renting a car if you are in Juneau for two or more days. Feel free to email us for more information or if you have any additional questions. Thank you!
Answer from Dale A

Hello Svsulove, Thank you for your question. I would be happy to answer it for you. Upon reserving the room we will charge one full night (including tax) to the card as a deposit. Which goes towards your first nights stay upon arrival. At the time of arrival we will charge the remainder of the stay. You can cancel up to two weeks before your scheduled arrival date and get a refund of your deposit. However, we do hold $25.00 of that deposit as a cancellation fee. If you cancel within two weeks of your scheduled arrival date, then unfortunately, the deposit is non-refundable. If you would like to pay the remainder of a portion of your stay before your check in date, we are happy to charge your card any time before arrival. I hope this answered your questions. Feel free to email or call us if you have any additional questions. Thank you!
