I stayed in the hostel during my re-compression after working in Skagway over the summer. The hostel is well-run and is immaculately clean, largely due to the (easy) maintenance chores each guest signs up for upon arrival. You can't beat the price ($12), and the funky guests are lots of fun. There were quite a few, uh, well-seasoned guests (50's...

This hostel is definitely worth staying at for the cost, it was 12usd per night plus one chore, the chores take about 5 mins, my first day I swept and mopped the kitchen and my second night I vacuumed 3 rooms, took no time at all! The hostel itself is very clean, has a big spacious lounge area, plus a...

This is a great option for the budget traveller in Juneau. The price can't be beaten and the location is perfect. The hostel is clean, quiet, comfortable and well equipped. Just be prepared for the fact that everyone has to do a chore each day (they are mostly small tasks that literally take 2 minutes to complete), and the hostel...

Everything is perfect, its location is not quite downtown but very close to it. We got welcomed by a cold woman but the second night it was a very different and warm person. The living room is awesome, cozy. The only problems are the chores you gotta do everyday. The price are low but that's because of the chores

We arrived on a Saturday night and check in was super simple. Our room had 3 bunk beds and only 3 people. Beds are like sleep away camp style. You will be saving money here but losing on comfort. You will be required to do a chore. I folded a load of laundry each night. Staff is pleasant and keeps...

One of the better hostels, the front desk is very nice, price is excellent. Good loving room area and kitchen, bedroom was comfortable. Six beds in room 2. A light chose is required, like vacuum, empty trash, clean bathroom. No problem there. Showers were fine. Also, free street parking is available nearby. Best aspect is proximity to Perseverance, Mt. Roberts,...

For $12 a night, it doesn't get any better. Seriously. Checkin is at either 5 or 6 PM (I forget which is correct) and you need to be out by 9AM. You sign up for a minor chore to help them keep the prices low, which is easy and takes no time at all. There is internet available. The only...

Had a good, and would consider myself incredibly lucky experience, on my one night stay. I contacted the hostel by email several days in advance wondering about availability for my night. I was told there was plenty of space available, which was accurate. I think you can also reserve a bed for a few extra dollars, if need be. It...

This is easily one of the best hostels I've ever been. It has a section for women and for men. Completely separate ypu have some privacy not much. But better than other hostels. The bathroom area its huge you don't need to be waiting or making a line to get a bath. The owner-manager was really friendly and welcoming

I'm on a mission to visit all 50 U.S. state capitals. This place blew me away. I could NOT COMPLAIN for the price and value which were for a priceless experience. First off, thanks and high praises to Jo, the clerk, for staying up for me despite strict rules to close this place at a certain time when I had...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Juneau Hostel is a non-profit, volunteer-run, public service to provide affordable accommodation for travelers and the families from the outlying communities of Southeast Alaska. Because we are volunteer-run, we have day jobs, which is why we have the 9-5 lock-out, and which is why we are particular about everybody leaving at 9. We have to go to work. The 11 pm curfew ensures quiet, safe, family-oriented accommodation. The gender segregated dorm rooms have no more than 8 beds in the largest room. Yes, the beds are uncomfortable, but you won’t find cleaner or safer accommodations anywhere in the world. In addition, we provide linens, towels, wifi, unlimited hot water, a kitchen and comfortable common area and coin-operated laundry facilities. We are open 350 days a year and the managers live onsite with children. ... more   less
