This hand-crafted lodge/home nestled on the peaceful shores of a remote Alaskan mountain lake by itself warrants highest acclaim. Add in the charming sauna, private chef and the most knowledgeable Alaskan naturalist guide I've met, plus float plane trips, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, wildlife (river otters, bald eagles, loons, bears, rainbow trout, mountain goats, moose, wolves, wolverines, varied thrush, etc.), this place seems like your own incredible slice of heaven. The owners/builders have spared no expense in their attention to detail and comfort. If you're looking for adventure and tranquility in the beautiful Alaskan wilderness, this is the place for you!

Finding the fabulous website of Loonsong Mountain Lake Camp was the best thing I’ve done in a very long time. The lovely Chalet did justice to all the photos of this unique experience. Spending my birthday in this pristine and magical environment was more than I ever had planned. The float plane trip into the mountains was the start of the adventure. This location is completely away from all of mans footprint. The Chalet was unique , luxurious, and still rustic. Canoeing and hiking in the woods surrounding the lake introduced us to so many animals that we had never seen in nature. Sitting on the deck of the chalet looking out over the stillness of the lake , we were in awe of the complete quiet we’d never experienced before. Only the occasional songs of the loons broke the silence. Our food was excellently prepared. Michael McBride, owner, and our own personal guide had poems and stories to tell. Michael only accepts a few bookings per year for this very exclusive experience where you and yours will be the ONLY guests in this world class setting.
To make this even more meaningful, Michael donates all of the Loonsong income to the youth programs that he conducts there——- where he also donates his work and use of the facilities to the kids.

I recently had a meeting with the owner of Loonsong, Mr. Michael McBride. We stayed at the Chalet, it is clean, spacious and best described as rustic luxury. The wilderness around the lake is absolutely stunning. If you are looking to get away from it all and have amazing food and accommodations this is the spot!
The best part is Michael McBride uses some of the profits from Loonsong to fund local youth programming such as Homer Wilderness Leaders a non-profit that provides outdoor educational experiences for kids. He also works closely with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Words have not been invented to describe this unique and astounding place. The previous review listed the many experiences and adventures—- and had gorgeous photos taken at Loonsong Lake. I must say, what we had read and seen did not even touch what awaited us. We had stayed at the Main Lodge on China Poot Bay, first. Loonsong was an add on. After the fabulous experience at the main lodge we could not have imagined this. The float plane toured us up over mountains and glaciers, sighting bears below. Our ethereal silent landing on Loonsong Lake took our breath away!
This exquisite home seemed nestled into woods and water as if it grew out of the earth! From the deck, as we sat, the call of the loon on the lake was hypnotic. I ‘ve done some traveling and found many wonderful places— always searching for the “one of a kind”. Here it is — the experience of a lifetime that few are lucky enough to find!
