Detailed Reviews
Cozy Cove should be rated six stars, and the owner of this beautiful home, Marcella, should be rated 10 stars. Unfortunately, the star ratings only allow me to go as high as five stars.
My two adult sons and I stayed in the main house at Cozy Cove. (There is a separate apartment I did jot see, but the people who stayed there for 9 days told me they loved it.) This gorgeous home, with its beautiful view from its mountain top location, is exceptional. It is clean and stocked with everything you need or want for your home away from home. It has a nice and comfortable master bedroom with bath downstairs and a bedroom and bath upstairs. There is a queen bed and two twin beds in the upstairs bedroom. The open backyard is beautifully manicured, and the view from the backyard is breathtaking. On a clear day you can see the Kachemak Bay. While the house sits near the top of a small mountain, you are less than 10 minutes from downtown Homer and 15 minutes from the Homer harbor. Next summer I would love to stay at Coxy Cove for at least a month (assuming I can break away from work to do so, which I am pretty sure will happen).
Oh yea, as to Marcella, while I never personally met her, she could not have been more friendly or helpful in assisting us while we were in Homer. She help set up our ocean fishing trip for salmon and halibut, and she provided us with some great suggestions for local restaurants. She also recommended our hike to the Grewingk Glacier and help us set up the water taxi to get to the hiking area. Plus, she makes some pretty darn cookies and smoked salmon to greet you upon your arrival.
I almost hate giving Cozy Cove a five star rating because I know I will be increasing my competition to stay at Marcella’s beautiful home in the summers to come. Oh well, that’s the risk I will have to take because this beautiful home should be rated much higher than the five stars allowed.
Thank you Marcella for making our first trip to Homer so memorable. We will be back. Hopefully next time we will be able to personally meet you.

I wholeheartedly endorse all of the five-star reviews. My mom and I stayed in the “Bear Paw” studio while visiting Homer. Marcella was an incredible, responsive host who goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome in her beautiful home. (She also provided wonderful recommendations for our time in Homer, and even had bear spray waiting for us.)
The personal touches were unbelievable. There are freshly baked goodies, and she even brought over a beautiful bouquet of peonies that she had picked!
The kitchen was very well-stocked with tons of food for us (including smoked salmon) and cooking appliances. The coffee maker was already prepared for us (beans loaded, just needed to turn it on). We especially loved the delectable homemade jams!
The studio and bathroom are both spotless and spacious—the beds are super comfortable, and the shower was fantastic. Marcella stocked the place with organic soaps, shampoos, and lotions.
The location was ideal as well: only 10 minutes from the Spit, and the ultimate retreat at the end of a long day with the hustle and bustle of downtown. Whether you want to hang out inside or outside, the place is perfect. The studio has breathtaking views and plenty of windows to let in the fresh Alaskan air. There is a beautiful backyard and porch to enjoy.
It was so hard to leave the Bear Paw, and we couldn’t stop talking about this place for the rest of our trip! Thank you, Marcella, for providing a home away from home!

We loved our stay at Cozy Cove. Marcella has thought of absolutely everything for a perfect stay. We were wow’ed by all the treats and fresh goodies we had for snacks and breakfast. I am still dreaming of the smoked salmon that Marcella makes herself.
The studio is furnished with everything you need- there were so many thoughtful touches throughout.
We stayed in the studio which was perfect for 2 people. Super comfortable bed and bedding, and the place is immaculate. We are incredibly picky about comfortable beds when we travel and the bed in the studio didn’t disappoint!
We can’t wait to stay again!

Marcella is an amazing host who goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome in her beautiful home. House is so clean and she has adds the nicest touches to make everything feel luxurious and relaxing. We loved the sauna and the big bath tub with her essential oils and Alaskan bubbles! Not to mention the cookies and smoked salmon were fantastic. All around could not recommend this more!

We had a wonderful stay in the Bear Paw Studio. The apartment was clean and spacious. The refrigerator was stocked with breakfast foods so we could make our own. A plus for me. The apartment was nicer than pictures show. We even had a moose come by.

We stayed 3 nights in the Bear Paw studio in September 2019 and we loved it!... from the welcome snack, to the view, the well-stocked fridge, the bear decor, Alaskan furniture, comfy bed, to the feeling of relaxation & comfort. We had everything we needed. We would definitely stay here again. TIP: There is GOOD REASON for the Bear Paw Studio to get such excellent ratings!

We loved everything about Bentler's Bear Paw, from our great welcome by Lois and Wayne, complete with amazing muffins, to watching the moose graze on the lawn at dusk.
Homer is a great location, full of natural beauty and literally feels like you are at the end of the world.
We went sea-kayaking, but didn't really see anything, so not sure i would recommend that again. We loved Halibut cove though, although be warned, that the ferry over is mostly out in the open, so wrap up very warm, as it gets very very cold!
We loved wondering around the art galleries and the local shops.
One of our highlights was taking the k bay bear watching trip to katmai. Its a tiny plane that lands on the beach, yet we saw so many bears with cubs and got very very close (they walked up to us, not the other way around - 3m or so away)!
We loved our stay in Homer, had 3 nights and wished it was more.

Everything everyone has written and all the pictures viewed are so accurate that I can't add anymore to them. This is one spectacular B&B, so clean and immaculate - just makes you smile upon entering with the roominess and bear-themed decor. The Bentler's are so hospitable and welcoming yet provide all the space and privacy you desire. By far, this is the best and most desirable B&B I have ever stayed at and I travel extensively. You will not go wrong here.
Thank you again for a wonderful stay, Lois and Wayne! Greetings from Massachusetts!! :)

Cozy Cove Inn looks just as it does in the photographs & is situated in the hills above Homer. It is about 100m on a gravelled road (for those in a hire car!). It is a large, airy, comfortable bedroom with a huge king sized bed. The only thing missing in the room was an armchair to relax in because there isn't a single chair in the room. The house looks out on the woods and fields with mountains in the distance and is especially peaceful. Note - there are no views from the Forget-Me-Not suite so if you're after that maybe you'd be better off in the apartment although you can still enjoy the views from the kitchen/living room. The TV only has a limited number of channels but the Wi-Fi works well. Strangely the hairdryer only had a cool function so wasn't very useful but there were lots of towels which was nice. The Jacuzzi bath was relaxing but it wasn't particularly long and that's from somebody who's only 5 foot four but it seems typical of the bathtubs in the USA! Also it was quite difficult to get in and out of because there was quite a wide surround to it. There was a separate shower as well as a double sink area with lots of space to put toiletries on. There were lots of nice soaps and creams to use. The room was very light but the windows only had cream shades which it didn't block out the Alaskan sun very effectively. Marcella tried very hard to produce some tasty and original breakfasts which were delicious. Marcella was very kind and welcoming and very kindly took me on a dog walk around the local area. It takes about 15 minutes drive to get to the Spit.

Great B&B. This is a full apartment with its own entrance at the Bentlers Home. It was very clean, had great furnishings and the goodies provided were great! We were two couples staying, there was a queen bed and a queen murphy bed that had a real queen mattress on it (very comfortable). There was a full nice bathroom, a kitchen and table and chairs for eating. Breakfast was there for us each day including juice, milk, fruit, dry cereal, oatmeal, and a different home made treat (muffins/coffee cake) each morning. There is a TV with dvd player in the room as well and internet access. This was our favorite place that we stayed our entire vacation and we wished we had spent more days here. The Bentlers also provided us with lots of good tips about places to eat and things to see. there was a hottub and grill out back that looked great but we never had time to use them!
