Detailed Reviews
My friends and I loved our two nights at the Guardhouse. We wanted to upgrade to a bigger room, and the staff was flexible and allowed for it. The space is great - large room with table, and access to the kitchen and a comfortable living space. We had a lovely round of backgammon, got tons of advice on hiking/things to do in town. The staff even made sure we got back safely from our hike. Really caring and wonderful people, thank you!

I have stayed in many hotels and B&B's in my travels.
The Guardhouse is the best place I have stayed in in a long time.
Not only was my accommodation comfortable it also exceeded my expectations.
The photos on their site do not do it justice. My bed was so comfortable that I could have stayed in it all day. Best night sleep.
Bathroom was large and the water flow was good and hot.
My room was downstairs. I had the largest room in the whole house. I had my own kitchen. Stove, fridge, microwave, toaster, filter coffee machine and everything else that is wanted in a kitchen. While not a large kitchen it was absolutely addiquite for what I needed.
Phyllis and Joanne made me feel SO welcome. Their home / B&B is warm and inviting. I stayed there for 3 weeks this winter 2014-2015. Honestly by the end of my stay I felt so blessed to have come across such a wonderful place to stay and wonderful people (owners) to stay with.
The view from the Guardhouse is to die for. The Northern Lights can be seen from their house.
It is a short and nice walk to town.
I loved my breakfast each morning and the coffee was the best I have had in a long time.
Phyllis and Joanne are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the history of the town, local attractions and activities.
I will stay here again on my return to Haines. Truely there is nowhere better you could stay. Look them up if you intend to stay in Haines.

We had reserved two rooms at the Alaska Guardhouse, one on the main floor and one below. The lower floor turned out to be in a basement with absolutely no ventilation. it was accessed by two tortuous stairways. It was damp and dark.
The two of us assigned to this absolutely refused so we all went off and paid for other quarters.

The Alaska Guardhouse is located on the grounds of Fort Seward in Haines, up the hill from the waterfront, so it affords a nice view of the harbor. But look the other way and see the mountains, too! Phyllis and Joanne are great people, helpful, nice to sit around and talk to, and willing to share their knowledge of Haines and southeast Alaska. We had a busy schedule while we were there but they still made sure we had what we needed, knew where we were going, and answered any questions we had. I had just had a major lock up of my cell phone and Joanne was quick to get out her computer, go to my phone's site, and figure out the problem and fix it -- I still don't think I thanked her enough!
The Guardhouse rooms are perfect, clean and bright, with plenty of room. Everything you need in the bathroom is there - no need to fuss with your 3oz liquids bottles - so that was nice. The common areas in the house are comfortable, the deck out back is a great place to spend a quiet hour or two reading and recharging after a day of running around seeing the sights.
Phyllis and Joanne made us feel at home. The Guardhouse is certainly a place we would love to get back to again.

This has been such a amazing place to stay! The owners are ao kind and make you feel like your at home! They even played games with my kids and let us cook food so we didn't have to eat out. They made us feel like we were with family! I really hope to be able to come back!

We stayed one night and really liked our room. The owner greeted us and made us feel comfortable. The room had 2 large queen beds, table, fridge, tv, internet access, and bathroom. The room was very roomy and nicely decorated. The bathroom was tastefully decorated. Cereal, toast, home-made english muffins, bananas, coffee were offered and included in our stay. We were allowed to sit anywhere in the main floor. I definately will book here again and in advance as I can see that this place would get booked up.

This is a real bed & breakfast. The owner grew up in this house and converted it to a B&B. as with any 100 yo house it is a work in progress, so things aren't perfect. But the bedrooms are beautiful, beds comfy, and living room spacious and welcoming with a cozy fire. The night we arrived they were making wild cranberry jelly and the place smelled wonderful. If you are looking for a warm informal night this is a good choice, but not inexpensive.

We had a beautiful room, with two Queen beds and a nice clean bathroom. The room also had a small refrigerator and microwave. Phyllis and Joanne were gracious hosts and provided a wonderful self-serve breakfast. Thanks for the delicious smoked salmon! It's the best we ever ate!

We were picked up from the Marine Highway Ferry and taken on a tour of the town including the lake complete with bears close up. Comfortable roomy bedroom with very comfortable beds . Breakfast was help yourself cereal and toast. Boiling water and tea and coffee available as needed. Good position , nice walk to town . Would recommend as comfortable and relaxed place to stay.

"Check out the website to have a look at them or call and ask about them. Either Phyllis or Joanne will be able to help you decide what would suit you best. All of the the rooms in the house are warm and comfortable. If you stay here in the warmer months make sure you take advantage of the sunroom. Great place to have your morning coffee. The view from there looks over the Fort and the mountains. Actually any view from the Guardhouse is perfect."Read full review
