Every time we stop in Haines we stay at the Fort Seward Lodge! Their staff is friendly and accommodating, the rooms are always clean and tidy. Morning Yoga with Lena is the best way to relax and unwind! The lodge has a great central location and is within easy walking distance of the waterfront and down town. We can't wait... More

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights with another couple in their newly remodeled suite. It was clean, spacious, modern and contemporary with a rustic charm. I highly recommend the suite for a weekend getaway. It has a large open concept living room and kitchen with a fireplace, flat screen tv, two bedrooms and a large bathroom. The... More

We needed a place to stay overnight before catching the ferry out the next day. The place was all closed up and sign on the door said back at 11. It was well past 11, but we realized - small town, laid back attitude, no worries. When we got into the office, Hillary said one room available, no tv, only... More

What really made this place shine was the wonderful staff. They are super friendly and helpful, very welcoming and accommodating. The place is old - that's why they call it "historic" - so expect that. It was very clean. We had one of the rooms with a private bath, and it was a very small bathroom, but it worked just... More

I made this reservation by email, the night before I arrived and although I asked for the details of the room I did not receive them, nor called to find out. This mean I have my share of the blame... When I arrived, the friendly young lady was running between the bar and the reception. She did what she could.... More

Like some of the other reviewers, we had a bit of an adventure actually getting our room but once that all got worked out, things were good. We had a room with 2 double beds and a private bath. The bathroom is small and the stall shower is tiny (as in it was difficult to bend down to wash your... More

This place is pretty old and tired but is in the process of undergoing a refurbishment so by the time you read this things might be improved. The owners are very nice and the resident dog "Copper" is a sweetie so you will feel very welcome here. The location is just up from the wharf so it is a nice... More

Fort Seward Lodge is on Mud Bay Road, downtown in Fort Seward.......the location shown on the map is on the opposite side of the peninsula is about 7 miles away from where it really is...... Hopefully TripAdvisor can fix their mapping system, which so often does not work well here in rural Alaska.......

The owner assured us he would provide pick-up service at the Alaska ferry terminal. After an hour's wait and four telephone calls (we only got answering machines), we gave up and caught a ride with one of his competitors. When we arrived at the hotel, the place was completely locked up. Other guests who were leaving told us we should... More

Our favorite hotel during our two week tour of Alaska, BC, and Yukon. Absolutely stunning views, charming and very generous staff who went out of their way for us more than once during our stay at the Lodge. My husband, baby and I came on foot to Haines after taking the ferry. We found the Lodge here on Trip Advisor... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located directly across from both the Cruise Ship Dock and Skagway Fast Ferry Dock in Haines, Alaska, the Fort Seward Lodge, Restaurant and Saloon was built in 1904 as part of the first U.S military base in Alaska. As the original Post Exchange, the Fort has been a part of the Haines community for over 100 years. The building has gone through many changes and additions over the years, decommissioned in the early 1930's and purchased by a group of retired officers, it then started its long history as a saloon and lodge in the true Alaskan spirit. Currently the lodge operates seasonally, open February - May for Heli-skiing and May - August for summer tourism and fishing. The Fort is known for good times, good people and good food. Come hang out with the "old salts" in the saloon or enjoy a cocktail or locally brewed beer while taking in the salt air on our deck with the ocean view! Grills and picnic tables are available for our guests who may wish to prepare their own catch of the day. We provide yoga and brunch in the summer every Saturday on our patio. We also have a horseshoe pit for your enjoyment. Our mission is to provide an authentic, down to earth, experience for our customers. The Fort is a family run business and we want you to feel a part of our family. Whether you are visiting Haines to ski, snowmobile, fish, view wildlife, gaze at the Northern Lights or simply passing through, allow us to assist you in putting together your Alaskan dream vacation. Hope to see you soon! ... more   less
