Akutan is a 5 hour boat ride OR a 20 minute twin engine plane ride to connect with a 15 minute helicopter ride. In the summer there is a regularly scheduled ferry that also goes back and forth. The boat ride is when weather restricts flights of either the plane or the helicopter--it is the ultimate back-up.
