Came up to Orca on a recurring Silver Salmon trip during this restricted travel season. My 10th trip here, and there are good reasons I am a return visitor.
The lodge was open and did not scrimp on service. Alaska Covid restrictions were in effect at the airport coming in, and the staff and lodge was fully informed and compliant with recommended procedures. Guests were spaced apart in the facility, and single occupancy rooms were standard. Cleaning standards are up to par for the current Covid guidelines, with Daily maid service and laundry service. Guests wore masks when in common areas, and dining was at reserved spots in the dining hall. Lodging was at about 40% of capacity, so social distancing was no problem. Unfortunately, the coffee shop (The Whales Tale) closed early this season to avoid having too much incoming/outgoing traffic. Overall, the experience felt safe and comfortable, and the usual hospitality was enjoyed by all. As usual, the Chef Christian provided OUTSTANDING fare in the dining room. The staff went out of their way to make sure everyone felt safe, and their needs were accommodated. No hesitation in recommending travel here, even with Covid-restrictions.

We stayed for 3 nights during Summer solstice. Meals were great, My wife was initially skeptical about the lodge and accommodations but was soon won over by the warm and welcoming staff in the dining room especially the chef and waitstaff, Delea (spelling) was a delight so enthusiastic and attentive. The Chef prepared great Sockeye salmon with great sauces and sides. Anna took my wife on some short hikes and tour of the area, (high light the echo spot and the hike of Haystack. I fished 2days with Chris on the ocean, and John on the Eyak river. Both guides were excellent worked hard to put us on fish and we had great results. Halibut, cod, pollock and black rockfish, and John was amazing at spotting Sockeye in the river on a rainy overcast day. They are hard to catch but we manged an 8 ib Sockeye, and a cutthroat trout. Both guides were expert on assisting landing big fish. John had to pass the rod under the anchor rope 2x and yet we landed it successfully. Kayaked on out last day on a flat calm sound. Kayaks could use a little repair on seat back but they were functional.

The Orca Adventure Lodge created the best father/daughter fishing trip and a one of a kind experience. There were unexpected luxuries that allowed for not only adventure but also relaxation. Steve, Wendy, and his amazing team work hard to create an amazing fishing experience, wildlife sightings, delicious meals served daily, and comfortable rooms with views of the ocean. The only think I suggest is stay longer then you think because you will not be ready to leave.

Just returned from Orca Adventure Lodge with two 50 pound boxes of fresh halibut and salmon... and some incredible memories. Everything about this experience delivered, and Steve, Wendy, and their entire team provided incredible service at a really reasonable price.
If you're making this trip for fishing, you'll be happy. If you're making it for camaraderie, you'll be happy. We were making it for both and had a perfect experience, even in the middle of COVID madness.
Highly recommend this trip for families, serious fishermen, or both.

Steve and Wendy Ranney were excellent hosts. If you’re going on an adventure check to see what their employee Anna is leading…if you can physically go on her trip(s) GO! ANNA IS WONDERFUL, friendly, knowledgeable and just fun. Chef was very accommodating and tried meeting each guests needs. Wendy’s coffee shop “The Whale’s Tale” is a wonderful hangout; we met really nice peopke, had delicious turmeric-coconut iced tea, peppermint frappe’s and cappuccinos.
Several on-site activities are available as in fishing, hiking, kayaking, and helicopter to a glacier (I don’t recommend the helicopter unless the morning weather is clear).

Everything here was great
The view was beautiful
The food was amazing! Every breakfast was delicious and cooked to order. The dinners were wonderful. Choice for appetizer, main course and dessert! Oh amd they had fresh cookies everyday that were homemade and delicious. Their cafe doesn’t serve lunch but they have a casual coffee lunch place over in the cannery with good food. I really like how casual it was. They shuttled us into town and picked us up, got us to the airport and the ferry. There were family games and books to read. Oh and a washer and dryer!!

I confirmed via email that our trip we scheduled months ago was still good to go. Received confirmation that they were holding the dates and to send arrival schedule. I booked the flights, sent confirmation and asked for additional days due to flights. Never heard back from them via email. I left a message via phone, no response. My husband left a message, no response. Called the friend who referred, gave us a guys name, husband left a message, response. "Sorry, couldn't get this year together all trips were canceled". This was a week before we were due to fly out. My only saving grace is I could get credit on my flights for future travels........ We won't be going here or recommend.

We are so sorry that this happened to you. We are currently running trips and have not cancelled any reservations...There are only two people that respond to phone calls and neither of them spoke with you. Also, our cell phone numbers are listed on our messages so that you can reach us directly if no one is in the office. We have been confused with other companies like Orca Bay Charters and Orca Bay Lodge, but we are Orca Adventure Lodge and take every reservation very seriously. Again, I am sorry that you experienced this disappointment, but you did NOT speak to us. Is it possible you got us confused with another outfit? We also list various ways to get in contact with us on our website.

This was my second visit here and I was not disappointed. Where else can you go and look out your window and see sea otters and eagles. The host and staff are great and very accommodating. The exterior is rustic, but the rooms are great and the food is fantastic. I also did the wildlife tour. I would highly recommend it if you can do it. I saw otters, seals, sea lions, bears, and birds.

Hello and thanks so much for your inquiry. Please shoot us an email and we will be happy to chat about a visit in May. Thanks again and talk to you soon.
Travelor4 is pretty close, I would email Wendy at the Orca Lodge to get the real scoop. We eat breakfast and dinner mostly at the lodge, lunch was normally provided with the adventure you take with the lodge. You can always go into town to eat as well.
