Stopped in for lunch after a day of exploring... restaurant only. We were pleasantly suprised by the friendly waiter and cozy atmosphere. The smoked salmon chowder was disappointing, however, their burgers were amazing! It was apparent why this place was full of locals.

Amazing burgers! Thanks for that. A lot of people say that after eating one. I am guessing the chowder may have broke (separated) and thus may not be how it should be. That can happen when you use homemade ingredients vs stabilized stocks that are available. We can give you more the next time you are in. Thank you & come again.

Our new friend Cornelius welcomed us, filled our travel coffee cups, then served us some great smoked salmon chowder. We enjoyed the stop, the tasty chowder, the coffee and the friendly service. Fall colors amazing along the Kenai and Russian Rivers.

Excellent; glad we could serve you! Historic Gwin's Lodge & Roadhouse had construction start when there was just a trail here along the river. It was completed in 1952, the same year the gravel road was opened. Gwin's thanks you for the 5 STAR review & support! Public - please support rural businesses! We are closing this winter mid-October due to lack of traffic stopping in. We tried... stayed open two winters. $200/day average but there needs to be 5x more business to break even just on food, labor and energy ($1000/day sales at bare minimum staff level) and that does not cover any fixed expenses. To cover fixed expenses, which must be paid monthly, we need at least $3000/day total in sales to begin to break even. We have made only negative income (and zero salary) in 7 years restoring Gwin's and a lot more work needs to be done. Thanks again for your support.

The food in the restaurant was good and affordable, however the cabin needed some TLC. It was nice to have a private residence, but it was in need of some major repair (broken windows, loose trim) and cleaning (dirty loft, stained sheets). If someone invests in these cabins,

Thank you, good point. We are weeding out sheets from the laundry service as some just keep coming back unacceptable. Laundry service runs about $10,000/year and they have had issues. We remodeled Cabin 1 (a Poplar Chalet) this year but spent way more than 100% of annual proceeds for that rental. We will be working on all of the cabins but it takes time. Our average rental is $170 vs. the $500 I paid in Denali and that did not have a kitchen, but was indeed nicer. At this point I appreciate having a $250 price range cabin option vs. $500. Thanks for your support and we do roll the proceeds into the kind of projects you are referring to having zero profits to date. We get about 80 rental nights per year per cabin but the bills need to be paid all year. That makes it difficult to survive! Thanks for YOUR support in helping restore Gwin's Lodge & Roadhouse! A fishing and hiking property... not a Hilton. I need to manage expectations, lol. At $500/night we could absolutely make it more Hilton like. Thank you, Keith.

This little gem of a restaurant was a nice surprise on a rainy Alaskan day (is there another kind). After being damp all day we said enough and headed to Gwins for a real meal that didn't involve a back packing stove. The menu had several choices that were way more enticing than
