Great experience with a group of friends, very friendly staff supported by a nice offer from the restaurant and very good bungalows, the resort is well arranged and not too big giving a charming ambiance to your experience, highly recommended for few days while discovering Huahine being really a beautiful spot.
Everyone at this hotel is so kind! Our bungalow was adorable (though do be prepared for indoor outdoor living) and we were able to check in *extremely* early. Breakfast was plentiful, other meals (happy hour, especially) were as we would expect, with the added bonus of having your feet in the sand. Be sure to bring bug spray -- we even put some on before we showered! And remember that you are choosing to be at a hotel with a restaurant and snorkel friendly beach, but not one that is close to "downtown". Most activities will pick you up for free, but if you want to do something without a guide, it can get complicated. Also note that if you plan excursions through the hotel, they can help you if something changes last minute, but there is a much higher charge than doing it on your own. As with hotels in Europe, your key turns on electricity, so the rooms are humid when you first come in, but their AC is fabulous and cools it right off. All things that make total sense, but knowing ahead of time helps set expectations. We loved our bungalow, found the beach to be super clean and full of shaded areas, the paddle boards and kayaks were available, and it's so convenient to have breakfast available in the mornings!…
We just spent 4 wonderful days at the Hotel Le Mehana on Huahini Iti in May. This was a very lovely part of our trip to French Polynesia. There is so much to like. The hotel is a special place on a special island. Huahine is one of the most beautiful tropical islands in the world and you will not go wrong staying here. The islands of Huahine are some of the least visited in the area with far less people than on Moorea or Bora Bora. Visiting during the early post-covid opening of FP meant even more tranquility. The hotel is a fantastic property on a very scenic beach, a place I will always recommend to others. We had a lovely garden unit that had everything needed for a wonderful beach stay including a shaded lanai, a very comfortable bed, a huge shower, a safebox for your valuables, plenty of towels and a refrigerator to keep your drinks and snacks cold. The waterfront units looked even better. The restaurant was superb and a necessity since you are pretty far from other places to eat. The food was excellent, cooked by a chef I’m told was trained in Paris. It was mainly served at outdoor tables but there is also a huge dining room, tastefully decorated with Polynesian art that can be used when the weather is bad. The breakfast buffet had plenty of selection for any taste with a large variety of fresh fruit, pastries, meats and cheeses and eggs cooked to order. For lunch we ate delicious salads with fresh fish of all kinds. There is a happy hour serving umbrella cocktails and then there are the dinners, both delicious and artistically served followed with fancy desserts. In our four days we tried most of the entrees on the menu and loved them all. The car rental is right there onsite making it very convenient. Using it twice for half day rentals allowed us to tour the entire island going to the town of Fare, visiting 2 vanilla farms, going to the north side of the island to view the coastal maraes as well as several others that we hiked up to. And of course stopping for photos at many scenic viewpoints around both islands. I knew this was going to be a favorite part of trip to FP from the moment we first booked months ago. Throughout our planning we were given the best of help from Matania, who seems to know everything about Huahine and in person quickly became our favorite host/concierge of all the places we stayed on Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine and Bora Bora. Matania helped us plan our stay, booking activities, arranging for a rental car and so much more. Best of all. she is one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. She goes out of her way to make sure you have a wonderful time. As for the activities available, we made great use of the kayaks, paddleboards and the onsite snorkeling. Make sure you do the full day boat excursion with Huahine Nautique. It was one of the best days of our vacation. Maururu to all of our new friends at the Le Mehana.…
I visited in November of 2020 and we were here for 3 nights before taking the catamaran out for 5 days to explore the islands. I am a 5star hotel girl all the way. I work in hospitality, my husband is in the wine business and we are extremely particular guests. my first thought on seeing the room is "well Ill endure it for 3 nights". I have to tell you of all the luxury hotels on our trip to French Polynesia this was not the most luxurious, but I would go back to Le Mahana over and over again because it is just overall awesome. The food was some of the best we had in all of French Polynesia, the staff are all so very sweet, and accommodating. You feel like you have found a secret place no one knows about. Its very rustic but with awesome food, drink and gorgeous water. About this sea cucumbers... I brought with me a blow up pool lounger and was quite comfortable not having to come face to face with the dreaded sea cucumbers on the bottom of the water. I literally was in heaven and will be back soon…
The hotel is set on the nicest beacu of the island of huahine et is great for a total relaxing stay. Best chef of the island too, most islanders come to the hotel for the food, the chef is just great. Wonderful meals
I recommend you avoid this resort during the COVID health threat. While there are safety signs posted and the front desk and restaurant servers wear masks, there is no enforcement of mask guidelines on tourists, crowded indoor dining, and housekeeping staff does not wear masks. Lovely place, but postpone your visit.
I decided to stay in this hotel on my second trip to Huahine as the water and the beaches in Huahine Iti are more beautiful than in the area around Fare on Huahine Nui. This hotel is located in these idyllic surroundings. In the final reckoning, it was neither of these aspects that impressed me the most. It was the surprising quality of the dinners. There is clearly a highly professional, well-trained French eye behind such dishes as chicken breast stuffed with foie gras à l’orange and crab ravioli in tonka sauce, not to mention desserts that would worthy of a fine French pâtisserie in an expensive neighbourhood in Paris. Everything was beautfully plated, a pleasure to both the eyes and the palate! The receptionist was also a gem - consistently polite and warm, she always addressed me by name. The bungalows are crammed together and home to noisy geckos, but mine with a lagoon view (no. 10) was on its own and reasonably comfortable. I particularly liked that the shower area had a door that could be opened to the outside for a shower in complete privacy yet open to the elements. I also enjoyed the pool and its location, hidden from the main road with some vegetation, didn’t bother me in the least. Having said that, there were some quirks and kinks: (i) The bed was never made, glasses in the room were never washed and hotel toiletries were not replaced. Apparently this has to do with the hotel’s sanitary protocols, but I find this rather strange. All the other hotels I’ve stayed at provided full housekeeping services. After all, if a client can eat in a hotel’s restaurant and lounge on beach chairs, surely then the staff can also wash bathroom glasses and make beds? To me and some of my fellow guests, this seemed like a way to save staff time and money. (ii) While the lagoon water was beautiful, I didn’t much enjoy it as the shallow end was full of sea slugs and sea cucumbers, as some other guests have noted. That was a disappointment. (iii) The fine culinary hand at work every dinner seemed to be missing at breakfast. Some things such as French toast and omelettes were very competently executed, while other basic things - hard, overcooked diced potatoes for example - were a disaster. Someone should also teach the servers to make a cappuccino or otherwise just say it is not available. I was billed XPF 500 for one that consisted of coffee topped with whipped cream and cocoa powder. Quel sacrilège! (iv) Maintenance could also be far better. My bungalow was shrouded in complete darkness in the night. The bulb above the door did not function, which made entering with a bulky old fashioned key very difficult if I did not have the light of my telephone at hand. The toilet also had a tendency to leak onto the floor. What you’re getting here is an unpretentious hotel with excellent food for your main meals, a nice beachside setting and a lovely receptionist who is very welcoming, but don’t expect luxurious accommodations or high quality, attentive housekeeping. If the latter are more important, the Maitai Lapita (which I have also reviewed), would be a better choice.…
The staff and faculties at Le Mahana were superb. The location was serene with beautiful views of the aqua blue bay. Our bungalow was less than 50’ from the water. It was stylish, well equipped and in perfect condition. The front desk staff were wonderful to work with and went above and beyond to make our stay special. The food and ambience at the restaurant was excellent. We look forward to returning to Le Mahana someday soon. Kirk & Mary Messick Sacramento, CA
If you have ever wondered what paradise is, this is it! The island itself feels like it’s out of a dream and the hotel and staff went far beyond our expectations. I would highly recommend this hotel for families, couples or even solo travelers. The sunsets are the best I’ve ever seen! You won’t be disappointed.
We stayed there for two nights and enjoyed our front-line bungalow with its paradisiac view and the great food at the restaurant. The staff was very friendly, especially the lady who showed us the island while bringing us from the airport.
