If you expect a high rise hotel, a cold marble lobby, crowds, boring artificial sameness, carpeted floors and a swimming pool with screaming kids running around, you won’t find those here. What you WILL find is peace, tranquility, the slow sweetness of island time, the chance to wake up and greet the sun every day, the roar of surf to rock you to sleep and time to hang out and enjoy the company of friends and family and have real conversations, frigates, osprey and booby to spot, water toys to play with and a reef to explore. Carmen and Dave will take care of you as if you were family and every meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner is served family style and will please and delight you. In an over- digitalized world, Joe Jo’s is a magical oasis of timeless serenity where you can…
So did not know that this type of place exists where you can truly get a way from it all. After 30 minute boat ride from Dangriga we arrived at Tobacco Caye and after a 2 minute walk. Heaven pretty room over looking the reef with the sound of the water and cooling breezes coming into the room. The sunset was amazing and the sunrise must not be missed. Food was fresh and totally amazing. Did not want to leave.
We just returned from a week at Joe Jo's on Tobacco Caye and it was a wonderful experience! Louis was very helpful in arranging all of our plans. We showed up with a family of 5 and Carmen and David treated us as their own family. We were there through two birthdays and they made us a great cake and a feast of a meal to celebrate. My boys are grown men who eat more than most and Carmen always made sure that we all had more than enough of her great home cooking to eat. The entire village is very peaceful and everyone is friendly. We checked out other accommodations while we were there just to see what they were like and Joe Jo's beat all of them hands down. Since the island is literally on top of the reef, fantastic snorkeling was only feet away from the room and diving…
I spent a week doing not much of anything at Joe Jo’s on Tobacco Caye with my two teenage daughters. It was really wonderful to spend the days being rocked in the hammock by the ocean breeze off the front porch of our cabin overlooking the sea, snorkeling, strolling around to the dock to see what the local fisherman caught that day, or taking the kayaks out. Of the several resorts on this small Caye, this is the most quiet and private. Carmen and David are the local couple who manage the resort. Carmen’s home-cooked meals made to order are the heart of Joe Jo’s, and David is super friendly and always helpful as well. We’ll be dreaming of our days at Joe Jo’s for a long time.
What sets Joe Jo's apart from the other places on Tobacco Caye is that the price includes kayaks, snorkel gear, and stand up paddle boards in the price. When traveling with kids, I find that no one wants to do anything for two to four hours (a typical rental) but they do like to spend all day doing water activities for 20-30 minutes at a time. The food is delicious and to my surprise a wide variety of family members with different tastes where all together but agreed the food was amazing. Not many in our group would have ordered seafood pasta salad or curry beef, but everyone enjoyed it. The fry jacks were a big hit too. Again, spending a few days at Joe Jo's made us feel like time stood still and we really got in some quality family time.
