We greatly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Joe Jo's. The property was very peaceful and relaxing, and provided an excellent vacation escape. Carmen's cooking was really good, and she made a few meals with fresh fish. Meals included items such as fish/chicken, refried beans, homemade tortillas, fry jacks, eggs, fruit, homemade muffins/breads, and dessert. Hot tea and coffee were available at breakfast. The use of paddleboards, snorkeling gear, and kayaks is included in your stay free of charge. The property is located on the southeast side of the island, behind the reef. The waves crash onto the reef on this side of the island, and for me the sounds of the surf helped me to sleep deeply in the ocean view cabin. A stay at this property is best suited for those looking for some quiet

Our family of 5 spent 3 nights at Joe Jo's on our way from Guatemala to Mexico. We visited Belize almost 20 years ago and felt that this time around we wanted a more family oriented option than Caye Caulker and Tobacco Caye seemed like a really good fit. Getting there is easy, we spent the nights before in Hopkins so it was a very short drive to Dangriga and catching the speedboat was no problem at all. Louis had provided us with the contact details to one of the captains in advance and we could park our rental car on one of the lots just next to the dock for a reasonable nightly price. The ride to the island was smooth and rather quick, you can probably hit some waves if you are unlucky with the weather but I think the reef protects quite well. Tobacco Caye is tiny, you will

The 5 of us had a great experience in this really tiny island. David & Carmen & children are excellent hosts, providing all support and delicious food, even to sometimes difficult kids... :-) For the 5 of us, those have been magic days, with plenty of snorkelling, boat trips, kayaking, reading and relaxing. Thanks a lot to all of you!

My family and I loved staying on Tobacco Caye at Joe Jo's. The island is right on the reef, and the reef itself is teeming with creatures, so we saw many interesting things right from the dock: stingrays, octopus, squid, giant hermit crabs, colorful fish, pelicans diving into the water, etc. We also saw many rainbows and water spouts (little tornado out to sea) which was totally cool. Snorkeling around the end of the reef was a highlight with tons of coral and fish. We borrowed some of our snorkeling equipment from Joe Jo's and it was very good quality, and we used their kayaks and paddle boards every day - another huge highlight as they are readily available, free to use, and so much fun. David and Carmen took excellent care of us. The food was great with fresh vegetables

We loved our stay for 5 days in January as a family of four. We stayed in two ocean front cabins and all spent many hours on our front porches reading and relaxing. The meals gave a rhythm to the day and food was very good. Our 8 year old loved ringing the dinner bell that calls everyone to the dining hall. Kayaks, SUPS and snorkeling gear were all in good shape and we used everyday. Have ‘Doggie’ take you out to the reef for amazing snorkeling-about a 10 minute boat ride. David and Carmen took excellent care of us during our stay. If you are not a fancy resort sort of person but just want a beautiful location with basic, clean accommodations with warm and friendly hosts, I highly recommend !!

We absolutely loved our 6 days stay over Chrismas at the family run Joe Jo’s By The Reef. It is paradise! The small size of it its perfect to make you feel super relaxed and comfortable. Everyone working there is super helpful and friendly. Tobacco Caye is a very small island which was exactly what we were looking for. You can get fresh coconuts right from the tree. The snorkeling is great and very easily accessible and close to the shore. You can use snorkeling gear, SUP and kayaks for free. We saw many big stingrays and lots of colorful fish. My boyfriend even saw a sea cow. The food is very good and the three meals give you a very nice rhythm for the day. You can buy lobster from a fishermen next door and the kitchen will prepare if for you dinner. The sunset bar is great

To begin with we had to wait four hours for the boat to show up to take us to the island. There wasn't anything to do but sit in a cafe with questionable amenities. Not a great start. When we got to the cabin there was a lot of garbage and stinky seaweed in front of our cabin. My husband actually cleaned it up so we could enjoy the view. Not a great welcoming. The meals were at scheduled times. When I'm on vacation I don't want to have to get up early to eat or stop what I'm doing to be somewhere to eat at a specific time. And I didn't want to miss a meal because the food was good but not plentiful. And I agree with another person I'm not sure the owner is very honest. On the plus side the cabin was nice, the food was good, and the water was beautiful.

TripAdvisor note that your stay was in Mar 2018 and unfortunately we have no record of complaints recorded during that month of stays by which we can intelligently address your views. Nevertheless, fair to say that sargasso continue to plague our Island and mainland beaches as in most or all of the Caribbean. We have instituted daily clean up during the high tide and the Sargasso is swept away daily by the currents.I assume you were helping like most of our other Guests who scorns this plague and if that is so I thank you nonetheless. There are Guests who call for light serving and those who crave our caribbean delicacy. We please everyone.I regret that you did not make your case known to our very accommodating cook. On the matter of honesty, whether you are referring to Dave or myself,I am certain that you did not make any such accusation that has gone attended since 9 months ago. Thanks for your kind comments about our Cabins and good food and thanks to God that the water was beautiful during your stay. Your review will be as good as a 4 to those who read others before and after your review. We nevertheless welcome complaints and do all that is possible to improve. Please come again and feel comfortable when you are here at Joe Jo's. Kind Regards, and have a Happy Holiday Season. Louis.

We had a wonderful stay at Joe Jo's! Very clean and cozy cabins on the leeward side of the island. Miss Carmen is a very good cook (we ate fresh and varied food every day) and both she and Dave are very friendly and helpful. If you want to refridgerate items you bring from the mainland they have a refridgerator that you can use. And while your on the island, don't miss out Pär's (swedish owner) bar at Reef's End!
