Staff friendly and welcoming and help you out , it's safe place and area, restaurants and grocery is nearby, good if you need a place to stay in San Jose, breakfast ask for it as not always visible otherwise good
I arrived here as the only guest in the hostel, so that did impact my experience/view of the place. My bed was comfortable and clean which is what i needed after a 13hr flight. The staff were friendly and helpful. However clearly during less busy times, the services take a break here. the kitchen and bathrooms looked like they hadnt been cleaned in weeks, there was no breakfast on offer as suggested. and im a dog lover, but not sure of the merits of having a dog that's terrified of people free roaming the building. fine for a night, maybe better during busier times.
The best things about this place is affordability. I was a solo female backpacker and TripOn was a convenient, affordable base for me with everything I needed. The breakfasts were tasty (so much fresh fruit) and the coffee, the wifi exceeded my expectations, there's a lot of comfortable chill out spaces and the curtains around each bed in the bunks which gives a decent amount of privacy. I got in not long after Breakfast (after 30 hours of air ports/ planes) and the staff had me booked in and in my bed within like 10 mins of me arriving. And the cooking facilities were decent enough that I could cook lunches/dinners for the week and make my trip that much more affordable (Costa Rica restaurants are expensive). Would definitely stay here again.
Our worst experience! we had a look at the cheapest hostel on booking (only 7dollars). We decided to go there directly. We had a bad reception, the girl at the reception was not very nice. When paying, she asks us double what we saw on booking! we explain to her by showing her on booking and she looks up and answers us that it is only if we book in advance. we explain that for half the price, we can directly book on booking. And makes us understand that it is not possible ... the owner intervenes and explains that it is not very correct what we want to do. we therefore ask him to make a commercial gesture to pay him live and not via booking. After a lot of blah, we understand that he will not do anything and therefore decide to book via booking. The owner vexed contact booking and canceled our reservation !!! So we left the place under the mocking look of the lady at the reception.…
Located in a quiet, safe and strategically accessible neighbourhood. Friendly service, nice breakfast spread and priced accordingly. Do not expect a 5 star resort, but rather a cheap and comfortable place to stay on a budget.
I consider it is a good hotel for backpackers and for short stays, with comfortable living and entertainment spaces, it has many spaces close to the hotel in a city that is pure life (pura vida) and pleasant and friendly people.
The hostel was great value. Excellent buffet breakfast with a great choice. Considering how expensive Costa Rica is this is great place to stay when you arrive in San Jose. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Helping with the details of where to get the buses for destinations. Also it is situated in a good safe area in San Jose. I liked the communal areas where you could meet other backpackers which is the essence of a good hostel. The kitchen area was spacious and well equipped. The dorm rooms were spacious and clean I felt the bathroom/shower could have been much cleaner. The shower rooms near the 6 bed dorm and the 10 bed dorm were in need of repair as the other shower rooms were in better quality. Just because you chose cheaper rooms to sleep in shouldn't mean that there is poorer quality shower/bathroom to use. …
Great hostel in a nice area of San Jose. Stayed in a dorm and every bed has a lamp, charging point and a curtain which was great. Common area is nice and the complementary breakfast is by far the best I've seen in any hostel. The hostel is also in walking distance to a large shopping center, the university, museums and the city center.
My husband and I, arrived late at night and the staff were great - they showed us to our room (mixed dorm) and when i explained that we needed an upper and lower bunk .... they asked us to wait and managed to shuffle a big group around / clean and remake a couple of bunks to accommodate our needs ..... I am not that experienced at hostel life ... but we felt that their helpfulness and willingness made our stay !!! The breakfast the next morning had something for everyone - bread (toaster too), jam, peanut butter, fresh fruit (3 types every morning), ham, cheese, tea, coffee, milk, cereal, yogurt and pancake mix if anyone could be bothered after all the above !!! The beds were super sturdy so felt very steady climbing the ladders / great sized lockable lockers / staff available 24 hrs (Valeria and Matteo were super friendly and Valeria even recommended some things to see / visit when we left San Jose. The kitchen is clean and well stocked with utensils and has a fridge / microwave/ cooker. This hostel has very cool paintings on the walls in the communal areas / the friendly cleaning staff are always milling around sweeping / wiping and generally keeping everything in order .... and as there are literally 20 - 30 people arriving / leaving every couple of days we felt the place was very well kept. So if you want value for money (the breakfast alone was worth £4 - £5) and you want to feel part of something cool and friendly ..... then we recommend this hostel with a 5 star rating - if you struggle with sharing and don't like anyone using the same bathroom / kitchen / bedroom area ..... there are plenty of more expensive options available - Pura Vida…
My wife and I stayed at Tripon for 3 nights in a double private room. At first, we weren’t impressed with the room, which was a bit simple and didn’t look clean. After three nights, we kind of got used to it and it was ok. The common areas are generally clean and there are a couple of cosy salons to chill out, not to mention a nice outside terasse. Note that the bathrooms are on the « disgusting » side of the spectrum. Nothing holds properly: the toilet paper holder fell on the floor, the flush handles are broken and there is no fan if someone went for a number 2 before you shower. Most of the corners are kind of collecting dust, which is not what you would expect from such small bathrooms. I strongly recommend showering with your flip-flops on at all times. One morning, there was simply no hot water which left me shivering for 10 minutes, but I survived. The kitchen has everything you need (apart from knives who cut properly) and the breakfast is very decent (cereals, fruits, yogurt, wheat, etc.). Coffee and tea quality is not constant. Neverthless, the hostel is located in a nice and quiet neighbourhood (barrio Escalante) and many bars and restaurant are a short walking distance away. City centre is a 25 minutes walk and you can do it safely during the day. At night, get a cab (around 5-7 USD as of February 2019). The girl on the day shift was very nice and made our stay much better with her kindness. The evening staff, on the other hand, just didn’t give squat about guests and were watching their TV shows so loud that everybody had to leave the main dining room and salon. Most guessed were very annoyed and some even left early because of this obvious lack of respect for travelers in need of company. That irrespectful attitude was a shame and we had to go outside to talk (where we could clearly hear the TV). I suppose they could’t hear well with all the dope they had been smoking outside the main door. The next morning, I can assure you that they didn’t look as happy when they had to wake up from the reception sofa and couch. I would’ve given this hostel a better review if it would’ve been cleaner and if the evening staff would’ve shown elementary respect for guests. However, that wasn’t the case. All in all, the value for the price was good.…
