My HostelWorld review (500 character limit): WARNING: HostelWorld says 1 day cancel policy, but then Pangea emails you: 2 day cancel policy, pay one day if canceling day before arrival, and *pay full reservation* otherwise! I canceled my 2nd reservation by email ~ 50 hours before my scheduled noon arrival. When I got home I saw the *full 3 day...

The place is really nice with a great atmosphere. Everyone hangs out upstairs. I would suggest that the bad reviews are because San Jose really isn't that great. It is amazing how there is nothing to do. lol I was there around new years and everything was closed! The beds are nice enough the bar is nice to hang in...

Good things first: - Hallways, Entrance are really colorful and trippy ;) - The Balcony, Bar, Free Internet - lot of folks Bad points: - TV's in the bar are annoying - the pool looked too dirty to me Good Place to stay a night in san jose, to meet people. Rooms are simple and clean. They have really good...

I stayed at Pangea on a few occasions while working in Costa Rica. All of my experiences at Pangea were positive. The layout of the place is interesting, kind of like a maze. The best part is the rooftop bar and the food. I highly recommend the vegetarian burrito. It's a cool place to hang out and meet people. As...

Professionally run hostel with prices to match. Does feel very safe in a dodgy area (use a taxi to get there) - they have security on the door. Rooms are basic - they don't have views other than on to corridors (which does aid security). Good rooftop bar/restaurant and pool. Showers have plenty of hot water. Service is generally good...

Hostel Pangea is a decent, affordable hostel centrally located in San Jose. They have a rooftop bar which had cheap food, drinks and internet access. They also offered a laundry service, which was nice after a week or two of backpacking. We took the airport shuttle and it was reliable and fairly cheap. I travelled here when I was a...

Pangea is a clean nice looking hostel and condusive to meeting people. But the management is horrible. I always felt like I was being ripped off by a staff member. They were not very helpful, instead of saying they did not know, they sent me in a completely wrong direction costing me a lot in taxi fare when the place...

I've stayed here 4 times in the past 6 weeks, this is the only place I've stayed in 10 visits to San Jose that I've liked enough to come back to. The rooms are a little bit cold at night, but after experiencing the Antarctic temperatures of the Venezuelan buses, I never travel in Latin America without a blanket. The...

We stayed for one night at this hotel in downtown San Jose (Costa Rica) and the first impression is that considering the high crime rate in the capital city, this is a fortified hotel! There are high gates and entrance door to the hotel, accessible by ringing a bell and showing your wrist-band to the gate-keeper. The lobby is dark...

Friendly staff, great vegetarian burritos, nice atmosphere. A great terrace on the roof with a nice view of San Jose. Not so good breakfast. The only drawback was that the wifi was terrible. Check out their speciality corona with salt, tabasco and lime!
