We arrived in San Jose to find that they canceled our reservation and moved us across the street from our 4 person room to a six person room. We'd already paid, and got no refund. Rooms were clean and the garden was nice across the street, but pretty poor service.

Great atmosphere, lovely place to hang out and relax, and the food at the cafe behind the hostel is delicious! The only thing I would improve is the bathrooms/showers could be cleaner. I appreciated the friendly staff and access to lots of good information about Costa Rica.

This hostel is NO.1 hostel I've been stay. There is a big pool and big kitchen . Great garden make you relax and happy. All of stuff are very kind and helpfull. 8 minutes walk from city center, not so far. Great value !

Staff was lovely with me, experienced high client service. Due to a misunderstanding with the bookings, they had to kindly ask me to move bedrooms- in order to compensate all my hassle moving my things around, they put me in a bedroom just for me for the rest of my stay. That to me is top client service. Also, both...

Costa Rica Backpackers in a good choice when staying in San Jose for a day or two. The is a lot going on, nice size kitchen, small hostel bar near the kitchen and a restaurant at the back of the property. Lack of smoking areas is the only problem if you are a smoker.

My experience at Costa Rica Backpackers was Spectacular. I arrived in San Jose for my first backpacking trip and I immediately fell in love with this special place. Their shuttle service picked me up at the airport and safely brought me to hostel so I didn't have to deal with the taxi guys. At the hostel, my dorm room was...

I was informed that my dorm room was $14 instead of $12 because they put me in a female only dorm (rip off!), which makes no sense form them to charge more for. I had to return multiple times to my room to check if I had bedding on my dorm bed. At night I was informed by someone who...
