I can't say enough great things about this hotel. The decor is spectacular- lots of art in every area. The staff were delightful- extremely helpful in getting around town, suggestions on tours. Do know that it is a trek from the airport, but well worth it to be out of the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. Could take... More

The Milvia Hotel is lovely, centrally located in, San Pedro, a suburb of San Jose'. It is quiet and you enter through a peaceful meditation garden. The rooms are all named after famous people, the upper floor is an art gallery geared to contemporary Costa Rican art and the lobby is decorated with statues, paintings and furniture from the Asian... A friendly small hotel full of old world character. It's off the beaten track -about 3 miles from the centre of San Jose - so you need to taxi or bus it in. Basic, clean and comfortable and full of interesting artefacts. Good place for a short stay.

Around two weeks ago my wife and I spent one night in Hotel Milvia. This place was a house that a prominent family used to own in the 1930's. It's very well kept, they have a mixture classic and more recent decoration. Everything takes you back in time, the walls, doors, windows, etc. The house still has the original flooring,... More

I stayed at Hotel Milvia while visiting my daughter. It is conveniently located and perfect walking distance from many places. The university is nearby which makes a great running track if you need to get in some exercise. The hotel itself is charming, comfortable and clean. The staff is all very welcoming and happy to help in any way with... More

I saw the Hotel Milvia mentioned in the Rough Guide, and having checked the favourable reviews on Tripadvisor, booked it for our two nights stay in San Jose. It belongs to Steve, an Englishman, so I could rest my basic Spanish for a day or two! It's packed with contemporary art, and has a lovely small pond in the middle... More

This was a last minute decision and a very good choice! Conveniently located in a quiet neighborhood but easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Carlos was charming, helpful, and so friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable, simple furnishings. Creative artwork all over the hotel and a great selection of books and games.

Hotel Milivia is a beautiful converted house in a good location in San Jose. We were welcomed warmly by Carlos, who is the type of person who can inspire you to do more and be better in life. His good nature and positive character seemed to permeate the hotel which only added to the appeal of the place. Breakfast was... More

We had a really great experience at this place: the hotel is in a safe neighbourhood close to the University, with spacious rooms and fun quirky decor. There's a nice roof terrace, a cute courtyard, free wifi and the staff (especially the owner, Steve) couldn't be more friendly. Peaceful and relaxed, pretty, and great value for money! The only reasons... More

This small hotel is actually listed as a museum/hotel in some websites and GPS navigator units. Located in a quiet neighborhood near San Pedro, it is only minutes away from downtown San Jose and from shopping, universities, museums and other places to visit in the city. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, it is not totally quiet, as other reviewers... More
