The staff was friendly and the property is nice and tucked away. BUT - no air conditioning means if you manage to open the only functioning window you might just spend the night breathing cigar smoke. So bad it as still lingering in the air at breakfast. The construction noise during the day (they seem to use the site to do work on cars and other things) might make you forget. Sad because the view and the property are quite nice

I spent the worst night of my life in dank, dingy, musty room #7. Furniture appeared second hand. Lighting inadequate. The sheets had pubic hair on them and yellow stains; the pillow cases had makeup on them. The towels were dirty and also obviously not washed. Bathroom shower so dirty and moldy, I would not have showered even if there were clean towels to dry off. There was a monsoon that night that never let up and because there isn't a phone in the room and the front office is in a separate building, I was unable to request clean sheets/towels (or a clean room). The walls are not sound-proof. There were parents nearby who allowed their 2 kids to have screaming matches at 9:00 at night. The one child cried throughout the night. If there was a phone in the room, there is no staff after 10:00 PM to complain to anyway. I was too grossed out to even sit on the bed, so I sat on the chair all night, with my hands over my ears, trying to muffle out the sounds of a screaming kid. I couldn't wait to get out of that dump. Front desk was ''without authority" to reimburse me and didn't know who had authority to do so. Do yourself a favor, look elsewhere. Consider yourself duly warned.

Set on a hillside with views to San Jose and within walking distance of the small town of Escazú. It offers a variety of room configurations that have been sturdily constructed using native timber, stone and earthenware roof tiles. Furniture is also mainly crafted using solid local timber and genuine leather webbing. The accommodation is surrounded by high stone walls and the large solid timber gates are locked at night with access by guest key only. Everything dits well within nicely landscaped walkways and private areas outside some of the rooms. Rooms that have another room above are quite noisy as the floor is timber and every movement can be heard. Breakfast included scrambled or fried eggs with a rice, black bean and sautéed onion mix, orange juice and fresh fruit with unlimited toast and coffee. Cooking range in the room is a bit of a challenge, but the microwave and fridge was enough for me. Be prepared for insects if you leave your door open for any length of time. Small pool in area where breakfast is served which is not duitabld for unsupervised non swimming children due to the sloping bottom and depth. The walkways and all the rooms are lit with a variety of wine and spirits bottled that have been adapted to provide lamp shades. They look very nice at night along the accessway. Good free WiFi. There is a fire pit and a small library consisting of books other travelers have left behind - German, French, Spanish, Japanese etc Well priced, nice surroundings, felt comfortable.

The good: The view from the apartment room 13 was amazing. Breakfast was good and the breakfast staff was great! Actually, most of the hotel staff were awesome (except one of the guys at the front desk). One of the grounds keepers was so awesome that he used a ladder to get oranges from a tree for my mom. Beautiful people! The beautiful and rustic decor, the furniture, the rocking chairs, even the chandeliers - it all adds to the charm that pull you out of the city and into a small paradise. The bad: The hotel is very poorly managed. The day of our flight, before we arrived in Costa Rica, I called the hotel to ask for a late check-in (after 10pm) and to make arrangements for a car to pick us up from the airport. When we arrived in San José and I called the hotel to see if the car was on its way I was told that no arrangements could be made and that I had to get a taxi from the airport. I was upset but did not allow this to put a damper on my trip. We got a taxi and arrived at the hotel. The gentleman that greeted us (looked like a grounds keeper) was really nice. The other man in the small office did not even say hello and could care less that we were there and excited to start our trip. We checked in and the grounds-keeper-looking-guy walked us to our room. As soon as he opened the door I said, “the is not the room I reserved.” So we went back to the office (it was almost 11pm now) and he said we were right and that our room was not ready yet. He apologized for the mixup and said that other people were occupying our room but that he would give us a better one for that night and that the following day he would move us into the room I reserved. We got to the “better room” and it was really nice, but it still wasn’t what I had reserved. We had been traveling all day and were tired, so we started getting our things together to freshen up and get some rest so that we could pack the following day with activities. I opened the fridge and there was no water to drink for purchase. I looked around and there was no bottled water anywhere in the room. Every hotel, bed&breakfast or Inn I have stayed in around the world offers bottled water in the room for a price $$. There was none here. I walked to the lobby/front office and asked if they had water for sale. They said that they had no water, that delivery person forgot and that they only had soda and beer (what?! are you kidding me?!). Now I was beyond upset. I called the hotel before I left the USA, I told them at what time I was arriving, gave them flight information, told them I needed a car service, told them at what time I needed to check-in, and that I was traveling with a senior and a teenager. Over the phone they said yes, yes, no problem... We got there and the night staff was awful! You would think that they would have ensured a car was sent to the airport, that the correct room was ready and that there was at least water in the room even if they had to pickup a few bottles from a nearby store and charged 3x the value as an option! Nothing. The following morning, after breakfast, I went to the front office, complained and then scheduled two tours - one for that same day and another for the following day. We went on our tour that day and left our luggage packed and when we arrived back at the hotel the staff had moved everything to the correct room. The new room was awesome, rustic, cabin-like with a fantastic view. However, I received no credit or anything on my final bill for the mistake the first night. At the last minute I had to cancel the tour we scheduled for the second day because my mom was not feeling well, and they did not charge a cancellation fee. That was the only concession we received. They were pretty good about calling a taxi whenever we needed one to go to the city, or shopping or to the restaurants. Other than that we enjoyed and made the best of our time in Costa Rica and at the hotel.

Room # 14 was a nightmare. Near the front entry, motorcycles, cars, and people were a constant noise. There is no insulation between floors and there was the constant noise of footsteps from above. The accommodations stark, no frills at all. When I arrived the staff person at the reception site did not stop working on the computer even when I asked him to help me. I love great service and there was none. Pictures are deceiving. I expected a place of serenity and peace. I am here to finish major dental work and wanted a place that I could relax and enjoy after a long day in the dentist chair. I should have followed my gut. I emailed before arriving to ask for recommendations for car rental and hotels in the La Fortuna / Arenal area. I was told I could only rent a car by the week (not), that I should wait to arrange car rental after I arrived. Don't bother. Lots of ants in bathroom and kitchen area.

We stayed only one night and wished we had stayed more. Our room was good, clean, had a small kitchen and good bathroom. The view is really nice. Breakfast was served by the pool. It was simple, but good and pleasant. The neighborhood around (5min by car) has many options os nice restaurants. Cannot say much about the staff since we checked in late and already left after breakfast. Overall, it looks very charming and cozy. the furniture and decoration is antique, but that kind of what makes it different.

We visited Costa Rica for some Dental tourism @ Dentavac (4*) and stayed at the Costa Verde Inn. Now if you you are looking for top notch accommodations with the prices to match, then head over to the Marriott Courtyard or Wyndham. If you want a more local expierence then this is the place for you. Located up in the hills above Escazu and out of the way (I had to direct a taxi driver one night) in a tropical setting, it is quiet and serene. Our room was upgraded for free and had a King and Queen bed, fridge, microwave and stovetop. Adequate utensils for cooking were provided. The flat screen TV had mostly Spanish cable with several English channels. Still we didn't watch much TV. Our room was spacious and the windows let in lots of light. The complex is funky with several apartments built into the hillside, perhaps 20 or so. There was a nice common area with a fireplace that was kept stocked with wood. We sat, drank wine and played games by it several times. In the morning up by the small, cold pool breakfast was served. Eggs made to order along with Gallo Pinto, toast, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. After my dental surgery the very nice cook/maid made frijoles for me and put my fruit and juice in a blender with ice for a delicious smoothie, every morning. The other guests would gather and we had great conversations. The front desk was accommodating, made phone calls for dinner reservations, taxis, and tours. They also exchanged $$ for colones at about ~570 which was very convenient and fair. Ok, the beds were a little hard but I've had way worse in "name" hotels before. All in all a great place to hide out after all the dental work I had done. We will return in six months when we finish after I heal.

If you are spending a few days in San Jose, this is a perfect choice. Is a simple hotel, rooms are comfortable and clean, service is good enough, good breakfast, and located almost at the top of Escazu, a beautiful area in SJ.

I was not sure about this hotel in the beginning since we arrived at night and it was raining. The rooms were very spacious and the staff was friendly and very helpful. The next day we were pleasantly surprised by a full breakfast by the pool. The breakfast staff was very friendly and gave us quick service. I'd go back for sure. A little gem in San Jose. Very safe and very quiet.

This place recommended by several travelers so I booked a room. The hotel is located about 40 minutes from the airport on the hillside. The staff was very friendly and gave us an option of two rooms. The property is very quant. Our room “appeared” to be clean. Our room adjoined another and there was a large enough gap that we could see in between rooms. Our neighbors were VERY loud which is no fault to the hotel but it does seem worth mentioning. We had an early flight and they were up well past midnight. My husband and I both made comments all night that we were itching. When we got up we noticed a rash and several bug bites on both of us. I tried to take a shower but there was barely enough water pressure to rinse me off.
