Facility well maintained and beautiful gardens. Jose (manager) was welcoming and explained area. We enjoyed the cool river then about 30 min hike o hot spring in a lush forest area. The lunch was a tico meal which I always prefer in Costa Rica and the staff was friendly. Usually the tico meals we’ve had on the previous 8 visits to Costa Rica are more flavorful and rice more plump. The fish was fried and very very bony without much meat. We went there without prior reservations and did not stay overnight. We were the only ones there so staff may not have had time to prep for food.

If traveling in your own car, will need truck or SUV suspended because you have to cross 3 rivers. We did not have a 4x4.

I would 100 percent recommend staying here! I went with a group of friends and we had a blast. The staff and owners were SOOOO helpful and made our experience absolutely amazing. The waterfall, hot springs are walking distance. It is perfect. I have never experienced anything like this and it is now my favorite place ever to visit. I am already looking to go back again with my family!

Our second stop in Costa Rica was at the Hot Springs Lodge. At the first fantastic drive to reach the spot. When reached we received a warmfull charming welcome from Scott and the lovely dog Rody! We checked-in slowly and received our welcome snack and drinks (thanks to Christopher). Scott showed us the great surroundings and really set us in a relax mood. During our stay Scott did a great job together with the staff to make our stay perfect. About the hospitality and service, big thumbs up 10+, well deserved. Regarding breakfast/lunch/dinner/drinks/snacks again perfect and special. I was everytime suprised! They make sure that you will enjoy and get a nice experience with the 'tico' food with a twist!
Starting about the Hot Springs Lodge location in one word: beautiful! The sound of the river/waterfall, the birds, animals and freedom makes you even more feel relax. We did also some nice tours and all were great! Always ask Scott/Diana for their recommendations, they know the best guides and tours.
I really want to thank Scott for doing this great job together with Diana and hope they will continue with providing such a nice experience for the upcoming visitors. Pura Vida!

Me and my new wife had the amazing opportunity to spend our first week together at the Hot Springs Lodge for our honeymoon and we had already planned our next trip back before we even left! It was like having a second family we never now about there. The food was absolutely to die for and was always enough for seconds and even thirds for big eaters like me! We took the tour threw the mountain and to the hot springs and it was the best hick we have ever took in our lives no doubt! How beautiful was the hot springs. It was hard to believe we got to do something like that, almost like being in a movie! Don't miss your chance to enjoy this exotic and well organized hidden paradise.

Starting with the positive: the property is lovely, with the highlight being a waterfall going into a pool that you can both swim in and jump off of. The owner made arrangements for a fantastic guide to take us to the hot spring. The food is delicious and plentiful. The negative: way overpriced. We were travelling through Costa Rica, staying at a wide range of hotels but even the nicest hotel we stayed in (which was very nice) was less expensive than our night at HSLCR, which was not that nice. (we were five people so paid $500). And the rooms were so uncomfortably hot I did not sleep- even when it was cooler outside, it didn't come into the rooms. Plus, the morning we were supposed to hike to the Hot Spring, which was the whole reason for our stay and which we had emailed back and forth with the owners about, we were told the pipe was broken and the spring was dry. We actually did the hike anyway and found the broken pipe, and it was the sort of thing that would have taken only an hour to fix if they had bothered to check the property before the day we arrived. I would not recommend a stay here.

We just returned from a full week at the Hot Springs Lodge. Here's what we experienced.

First, what it isn't. This is not a Ritz. If you're looking for a traditional five-star resort hotel, complete with gold trim, tuxedoed waiters, and duck a l'orange, don't go here.

Instead, this is an all-inclusive, rustic hunting-like lodge on the mountain; run by the kindest, most generous and helpful people (and dog!) you'll know. They've made it fully sustainable: generating their own electricity from hydro and solar power, filtering the water from the nearby mountain spring, using local ingredients for cooking, and generally keeping a minimal footprint out of respect for the land and its creatures. If you're looking for an eco-friendly, laid-back, off-the-grid experience, look no further.

Diane, one of the owners, wasn't there during our stay, but she helped with all of the arrangements via email and phone. Scott, her husband, was there throughout. He made sure we were well cared for, shuttled us around to excursions, provided advice and provisions as needed, and went wildly beyond the call of duty to keep us clean and comfortable while we were passing a stomach virus around the family. A sweet Tico named Cristian did all the daily cleaning and cooking, which was ample and fantastic. Rody, the friendly Rhodesian Ridgeback, lolled around on the porch and accompanied us on trail walks to make sure we were OK. There were hundreds of toads and lizards and hummingbirds and dragonflies and other critters of the forest making themselves at home on the lawn and occupying the kids.

The lodge itself is small and simple and clean, with homegrown touches and local decor. The grounds are stunning, complete with a spring-fed pool; hammocks; hummingbird feeders everywhere; a shallow, rocky river leading up to a waterfall and swimming hole; and a front yard tilapia pond for fly fishing. Our 8 and 9 year old boys spent much of the day catching fish, that Cristian deftly cooked up for our dinner.

Our activities included ziplining (it's worth splurging on the 1000+ meter "Superman" line), horseback riding on the beach, a sunset catamaran ride with snorkeling and water slides, parasailing from Manual Antonio beach, flora and fauna guided rainforest hikes, and waterfall rappelling. I also got a great massage on-site. When we weren't on the excursions, we fished, river-walked to the waterfall and swam, lounged on rocking chairs in the back watching the river rush by, swam in the rock pool, relaxed with one of the onsite board games, and napped the afternoon heat away. By the time the week was over, we were blissed out and sun-kissed, and hardly ready to face the 0-degree NYC weather again.

Thanks to Scott, Diane, Cristian, Rody, and crew for making our week so special. We'll never forget it, and hope to be back soon to see the new additions to the lodge!

Scott and "Zap" were awesome! I have never felt more welcome at a resort/lodge then I did when I arrived at Hot Springs Lodge! We only spent the day there but it was great and a very full day.

Zap took us on a hike to the hot springs. I will let you know that if you are not a hiker or a very active person think about this hike before you go on it. It's beautiful but a lot of up and down on unsteady hillsides and you will go through the river stream, I think, four times total. You need good hiking/gripping shoes, one of my friends had tennis shoes and she said they weren't very good for this kind of hike.

Zap was very patient with us, showed us many trees, flowers, and basically pointed out anything he thought we should know. It was great. He also helped us up, down and through all the difficult parts of the walk.

After we returned from the hot springs we had the best coconut encrusted chicken with mango salsa that we had ever had. We have been in CR for two weeks and this was the best meal. I can only imagine how amazing the rest of the meals must be for the resort guests that are staying there. When we arrived we were given; coffee, homemade pineapple ice tea, fresh fruit and baked (not fried) fruit empanadas!

After lunch we were able to stay by the pool, walk down to the river and get cooled off or lay in one of the three hammocks they have over looking the stream.

Overall, this is a great place. The hospitality was better than I could have expected! If money was no object, I'm pretty sure I'd need to move into the lodge for a few months!

Go see Scott and Zap....you won't be disappointed!

There really are no words to describe this absolutely incredible place! My husband and I stayed for three nights recently and were treated outstandingly. The setting is amazing with lush, tropical surroundings, an incredible lulling river and the most beautiful birds. The rooms in the back are a definite must! Because it is a lodge they are small but the quaintness and cleanliness is wonderful! We had the great priviledge to have had owners Scott and Diane be our hosts. They were extremely attentive with our meals and the comfort of our rooms. Diane really took the time to add special touches to our stay and was always there for our needs. Scott took the time to talk with us about Americans settling in Costa Rican life so we could learn all about this wonderful place. Zap is the lodge's resident Costa Rican who both hosts and is their outstanding chef! We truly were spoiled with such amazing fresh, explosions of tastes! Once you eat authentic Costa Rican food it is hard to go back and eat American fare. Zap is a true gem to the lodge as he exemplifies the Pura Vida Costa Rican life! The relaxation and genuniness of the people who run Hot Springs makes this vacation perfect.

We did a few excursions while at Hot Springs which Diane set up for us. We had a personal guide give us an outstanding tour of the rainforest while on our way to one of Costa Rica's highest mineral content Hot Springs. The hike in some areas was challenging but well worth the reward. The spring felt amazing! We also went to a spice farm and learned and saw so much. It was a very authentic experience! You'll also get to sample some outstanding deserts! Our last excursion was horseback riding through a farm and on the beach. The scenery was beautiful and we even got to see a group of squirel monkeys! It is advised that you do have a little experience riding horses. Also the terrain is a bit challenging so beware if you have any physical issues. We loved the gentle horses however. You really felt close to nature.

In the end, we didn't want to go back. Hot Springs lodge was a place that we want to go back to again and again. This is what a true vacation should be and yes, you can't get anymore costa Rican then this!! PURA VIDA:)

Our family of four (kids in high school and college) spent five days before Christmas at the Hot Springs Lodge in Quepos. It's in a beautiful spot in the mountains, about a 30 minute drive from the beach. The lodge is simple, spare, and clean, and it's designed in a way that makes you feel close to the natural surroundings, not sealed off in a generic hotel room. The lodge is convenient to zip lines, Manuel Antonio National Park, beautiful beaches. It's in a wonderful spot on a mountain with abundant bird life, overlooking a river and just a stone's throw from a waterfall with a choice swimming hole below. We enjoyed watching an impressive variety of hummingbirds up close from our porch. It's a short and scenic walk to hot springs. In short, you don't really have to leave the property to enjoy Costa Rica's natural beauty.

For all of the natural beauty though, the best thing about this vacation was the impeccable service we received. The resort's Costa Rican manager, Daniel, the staff and volunteers -- Ken, Sonia, and Ellery -- made this one of our best family vacations ever. They made us feel more like long lost friends than paying guests. Daniel and his crew were very attentive without ever being intrusive, always positive, energetic, and truly dedicated to ensuring that every detail of our visit was perfect, including the excursions off the property. And it was. Daniel is a fantastic cook and a tremendous host, and he really went out of his way to make our trip outstanding. Meals were wonderful -- fresh, well prepared, with attention, again, to every detail. We highly recommend this place.

The proprietors Scott and Diane are wonderful kind and generous hosts. This is a beautiful location, unique. We had a group there for only a day trip, hike to waterfalls. Then a wonderful lunch. Most of the group then hiked to the hot springs. Some stayed at the lodge and enjoyed the river side pool and calming hammocks. Such a peaceful place. Lodge has its own hydroelectric generator, hot water, tilapia ponds.

Do you need to be staying at the lodge to visit the hot springs?

Good morning Rainforest for a Day Good afternoon. Yes we do daily tours to the Hot Springs. It is called "Rainforest for a Day " tour We begin the hike to the Hot Springs at 8:30 AM. We recommend your arrival at 8 o'clock. This will allow time to have some refreshments (fruit, coffee, pastries, juice) and familiarize yourself with the tour. Most people will stay at the lodge until at least 2 o'clock to enjoy the lodge and its amenities to the fullest. It is approximately a 45 minute hike to the Springs with Rivers and so many things to see along the way. We are in primary rain forest so the flora and fauna are spectacular Upon your return enjoy the river, waterfalls and pool or just relax in the hammocks while our chef prepares your phenomenal lunch. The price per person is $85 with transportation. If you have your own transportation it is .$65 We do need to confirm when you have decided on your date. We limit the number of people per tour and only have one tour per day. This insures the springs remain natural. We are a cash only resort and except PayPal in advance for at least a 50% deposit and the balance in cash upon arrival. Please be certain you wear "hiking shoes or water shoes" for your tour. No sandals or flip flops You have any questions please feel free to contact us.
