We spent 4 days at iguana Lodge and wish we were still there. We stayed in a casita in the trees. Lovely room with a large porch. The manager Mardi was so friendly and helpful. The lodge overlooks a gorgeous beach and there are many birds and monkeys to see. There is also a lap pool and relaxation area. The food in the Restaurant is excellent served with a big smile by Oliver. Except the road into the lodge this place is perfect.

The Iguana Lodge is a secluded contemporary beachfront resort located south of Puerto Jimenez along the beaches of the Golfo Dulce. The empty beach and surrounding jungle is inhabited by scarlet Mccaw’s, Howler monkeys and other interesting animals. The slower pace of the less frequented Osa Peninsula is calm and relaxing and the Iguana Lodges serene location near the end of the road makes this place enchanting. Service and accommodations at the Iguana Lodge are very good. The staff is friendly and helpful, most are proficient in English. The accommodations are clean and very good. The air-conditioned rooms are essential. The resort features a swimming pool, Yoga instruction and recreation rooms above the pool. They also offer free use of paddle boards and kayaks and other recreational equipment. The restaurant has a view of the beach and offers breakfast. The regular menu offers a wide selection. The daily specials are excellent, great drinks, and the service is wonderful.

All staff were truly superb - friendly, helpful, and engaging. Tours, particularly Sindar's, are excellent though expensive, in part, to high taxi rates. Landscaping is beautiful and attractive to birds and wildlife. Food and bar were good with exceptional staff. The nearby Aqua Dulce Resort also serves meals and attracts more locals. Pool are is good and kayak, tennis (not paddleball), and other equipment was always available to guests. The ceramics studio/music room is open to guests but feels more like a personal hobby room of the owners. Our only true complaint is that candid information about the Casitas and hotel rooms is not readily available on the web site. The Casitas are 5 separate wooden structures facing the ocean, each with two or more levels. The rooms entirely screened, with a double bed plus one, or more, single beds. Each level has an open-air, furnished porch. The Casitas are pretty private, roughly 50 feet apart, and well hidden from each other by vegetation. Rooms are reasonably bug free especially if the door is kept shut. Casita VVK is three levels with an open-air living room and kitchen below two sleeping levels, each with a bathroom. Casitas Reina and Ilan have bathrooms on both levels and are often rented to separate parties at the same time - not ideal for privacy and especially noisy for the lower Casita. Smallest Jasmine and Orquidea buildings have one bathroom on the lower level which limits their rental to one party. The hotel is situated directly above the kitchen (staffed 0530 - 2100) and includes 8 air-conditioned rooms, 4 facing the ocean. Some guests mentioned noise from neighbors as disturbing. Would agree with other posts that transportation from the airport should be provided by the hotel at no charge.

Pros A beautiful location with lovely grounds with lush vegetation. Great on-site beach. Super accommodating, hardworking staff that are friendly and a pleasure to have met. Good excursions and on-site restaurant. Owners live on the grounds and very helpful in assisting you. Beautiful view from sitting on the porch of the hotel room we had. Provided a very relaxed atmosphere. Large pool with a hot tub. Large outdoor yoga studio. Scarlet Macaws in the trees on the property. Cons This place is overpriced for what you get. The rooms are small and not comfortable. Our mattress needed to be replaced. The casitas need upgraded. I understand they are looking into upgrades in the future. Other It was a pleasure to have met all the staff and owners while visiting Puerto Jimenz. Thanks so much for your hospitality! Pura Vida!

We are a family with kids and we had a wonderful stay at Iguana Lodge. It is a first-rate hotel and the excursions offered are well organized and well run. Two items that prevent a perfect review and we hope the managers/owners would consider changing - 1) given the costs of a stay, there should be a free hotel shuttle service from Puerto Jimenez and the hotel which is only 4 km distance. $37 taxi costs are exorbitant and erode the experience 2) if you happen to get a downstairs "luxury" room with other guests above (especially with young children or a romantic couple) - you will miss a degree of serenity.

We stayed for 3 nights after rebooking our honeymoon that was supposed to happen April of 2020. We both had COVID tests and were vaccinated before coming. We absolutely love it here. It is located about 3 miles from Puerto Jimenez on a gorgeous and secluded beach. This is the place for you if you want a remote beach experience with great amenities where you can feel connected with nature, view tons of wildlife from your front porch and eat great food. We saw so much wildlife here at the hotel. Many birds including Scarlet Macaws daily in front of the restaurant. We saw an 8 foot boa constrictor (they are harmless towards people) and a Tayra, which are apparently quite rare. We also saw howler monkeys. We also did a morning birding tour with Sidnar, the hotel naturalist/guide, which was great. If nature scares you or you want a big beach-club experience, this is not the place for you and you should consider a large resort in another part of the country. Our casita was open air and we woke up with the sunrise and sounds of howler monkeys. We did not have AC or TV and we preferred it this way. A guide told us the beach is protected natural public land. There is no development visible from the beach, no groomed sand or big areas of beach loungers. Again, we preferred this. They have a long term stay program right now with excellent areas for working, a kitchen, and very fast WiFi. If I had the option to work remotely I would come down here immediately!

Six friends shared the Beach House and had a fantastic time. It was the first trip to the Osa for my friends while I had been a few times before. I knew that Iguana Lodge would be the perfect place to stay for our water activities and tours before heading up to another lodge. The three story Beach House is in the midst of lush tropical landscaping with a view of Golfo Dulce from the decks. The bottom floor is an open veranda with a full kitchen, bar and 1/2 bath. We stopped at the Super Mercado on our way from the airstrip and loaded up on Happy Hour fixin's which we thoroughly enjoyed each afternoon. The second floor has two bedrooms with two beds each and one shared bath, while the third floor/master suite has two beds and a bath. Both floors are very open but screened in to keep out the bugs. You feel as though you are in a tree house living in the middle of the jungle! My friends opted for a 1/2 day hike with Sidnar and loved it. He was able to spot numerous types of wildlife, some of which were only spotted that day such as the sloth. We also went on the 1/2 day dolphin tour with Jose which was fabulous. He used his sonar to see where the dolphins were and it was a pod of approximately 100. It was so much fun to watch them jumping and spinning! He then took us to a quieter area above a reef where we went snorkeling and then to lunch in Golfito at La Marinera. Most of our meals were eaten at the Pearl and were delicious, but a tad on the pricey side. That's to be expected considering the remote location of all the Osa lodges. We did not have a car so needed a taxi back/forth for tours. We had dinner one night in PJ at Delfino's which was a fun atmosphere with good food. Wildlife sightings from the Beach House were excellent. Squirrel monkeys are often quite elusive, but we had a troop of about 30 run through the trees in front of us on two afternoons. Scarlet macaws are numerous and loud, but can often be difficult to see being so high in the trees. They are simply gorgeous to watch as they fly across the sky. Howler monkeys were spotted in the trees near the pool and the Halloween crabs were out at night. The gingers and heliconias were in full bloom and absolutely stunning. The landscaping is just gorgeous around the grounds. Sunrise comes early and was spectacular! I enjoyed it by myself along with pelicans flying past and it was the perfect start to another great day. Maxine was very helpful in getting our reservation set, sending tour info and answering questions in advance. Mardi was great getting us settled and signed up for tours upon arrival. Pamela waited on us for meals and was just lovely. Lauren and Toby, the owners, were usually at the restaurant during meals and were happy to answer any questions. There is a three night minimum at the Beach House which was the perfect amount of time for us. I highly recommend this unique lodging for friends or family. It will be an unforgettable stay!

We only stayed one night - in a Club Room w/ A/C - and oh, we wished we would have stayed longer! i wanted to experience a few different kinds of lodging options & this was one to which we will definitely return. The room was clean, comfortable, A/C, wifi, safe, hot water, soap-shampoo-conditioner, nice towels, outdoor deck (shared), right above Pearl of the Osa restaurant (which has fabulous food). We barely got to explore all that IL has to offer, but we enjoyed every minute of our short stay. The ONLY downside is the distance from town - if you want to do an activity that leaves from Puerto Jimenez dock, for example, you need to do taxi to/from - but that is really not that big a deal. Club room is a great deal which includes breakfast. Highly recommend! And staff is very helpful & quick to respond via email!

My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing getaway to Iguana Lodge. We chose to stay in one of the air conditioned club rooms. It was very nice and comfortable. Our only wish was that there had been a blanket on the bed, not just sheets. I'm sure if we had asked they would have provided one, but we just made do. We enjoyed sitting outside our door on the lounge chairs and hammocks. The rooms are directly above the restaurant with gorgeous views of the beach. One night the restaurant guests were loud until about 10pm, otherwise it wasn't a problem. The resort is breathtakingly beautiful. Keep your shoes on, you are bound to step on a lizard, crab or frog, especially at night. The pool is beautiful and there is never anyone there. The water was the perfect temperature. Unfortunately the jacuzzi was not much warmer, we were hoping for more of a hot tub. (I know it's 80-90 degrees outside, but still love a hot tub) The jets also did not seem to work. At night all the crabs take over the pool. We thought we would go for an evening dip, but found the pool full of critters I did not want to swim with, my husband hopped in and had fun with the crabs. At night the resort is not well lit. We were provided a flashlight in our room. Make sure to wander after dark, you will hear and see new things including the glowing fluorescent trees that sparkle at night. It was just like the movie Avatar. We both had a massage in the open air room. It was the best massage I've ever had. Something about the humidity, and listening to real rainforest sounds. The masseuse was fantastic, I asked if I could give her a hug, despite Covid, because I loved it so much. I will go back here one day just for the massage. Before our trip there we had corresponded several times with the resort. We wanted to reserve a tour, but were assured that we didn't need to book it until we arrived. Well when we got there we could not do the waterfall/tree rappelling tour on the day we wanted to. It turned out our only option was to do the tree climb the morning we checked out, we could not fit in the waterfall rappelling. This was disappointing and made our arrival day a little stressful. The resort allowed us to check out a little later so we could get cleaned up after tree climbing. We did absolutely love that experience, just wish we could have done more. We did enjoy the tennis court one morning. We also used the provided kayaks and went out past the waves to a reef. We hoped to snorkel there, but the water was to rough at that time. We did however see dolphins. We also used the resort boogie boards for several hours. The beach is beautiful, and we were almost always the only ones within sight. We had several meals at the Pearl restaurant below our room. The food was good, but nothing special, we felt it overpriced and enjoyed local food in Puerto Jimenez more. We were ready for breakfast each morning about 630am and that seemed to be a little early for the restaurant, even though they were open. By the time we got service at 7, we only had time to grab some fruit and go. Another morning we just asked to get some eggs and tortillas to go because there was no way they would serve us in time for us to make our tour. The room included breakfast, and it would have been nice if we could get our moneys worth and a nice full breakfast, we just never had an hour to wait for it. The lunch and dinner meals were provided for much faster. We were very glad we had a vehicle here. We went into Puerto Jimenez (15 minutes) almost daily for food, souvenirs, our Covid tests, and we did drive ourselves to Matapalo for the Tree tour. I don't know what a taxi would have cost, but we were glad to have the flexibility. Everyone that worked here was very helpful and kind. The day we checked out we were hours away when we realized we had left behind something very important in our room. We emailed the resort and they made arrangements to send our item on a Sansa flight to SJO airport, where we could pick it up before our flight home. This worked out perfectly and we so appreciated their help. *About the tree climbing tour. We drove ourselves to Matapalo to meet the tour guide, it was about a 50minute drive. They told us a restaurant to meet at and Leo was standing on the road waiting for us. We parked there and walked through cow pastures up into the hills. It was a very leisurely walk, nothing strenuous. Once we were in the trees we began to see wildlife. Leo pointed out snakes, frogs, spiders, and we saw 3 types of monkeys. It was less than an hour to the tree. After you have on your harness, gloves, and hardhat you climb inside the tree up the tunnel of roots. We guessed it was maybe 70 feet up. Not a hard climb, took us each less than 5 minutes to get on the platform. It is quite narrow at the top. My husband and I are both small people, 130-175lbs. More than that would be difficult to get through. Kids would love the climb. Once ready to slide off the platform the height is a little intimidating. Unfortunately It wasn't the type of rappel where you can kick off and swing and fall fast, it was just a very slow descent. But we really enjoyed it. Hiking back we were given the option of going straight back to our car or doing a small detour to see a waterfall. We chose the waterfall. It was two small falls with pools we swam and cooled off in. That helped make up for missing the waterfall tour. In all it was just over 3 miles.
