This is more of a hiking lodge. Accommodation was very simple, though reasonably clean. We had dinner which was cooked on site, no choice, but it was very tasty. We were very disappointed in Drake Bay itself, it had very little to offer us, more a hippy place, and we only stayed one night instead of the two we had booked.

It has been a month since I cancelled using the free cancellation on Booking.com and after over a dozen emails with Booking.com and the lodge and one call to the owner in Prague, they still have not refunded my 1/2 payment and appear to be completely unable to do so despite acknowledging that I should receive the refund. This is the worst experience I have ever had with trying to get a refund. This place should not be in business.

Anyone remember that song? This is what I'd call an Ecolodge. It has the basics in a very remote area. The first compelling thing is the view from the ingeniously-designed main building with two outward-facing terraces. Mesmerizing to just stare out. The morning fly-by of endangered scarlet macaw parrots is remarkable and unforgettable. The manager is an eccentric Czech man and his wife, who were recently arrived. Well-meaning, but not professional. For example, I needed a receipt for my stay, which should not be too much to expect, but it never was provided. The local staff member, Andy, is a very nice guy, speaks decent English and is local, so can help point you in the right direction for activities. If you are there at the right time, that should include a turtle walk with the local non-profit (separately reviewed). The only price we were quoted (direct with the hotel) included meals and was per person, but looks like you can do better online for the room alone. Food is "hearty" prepared in an open kitchen. No menu choice except how you want your eggs in the morning. Chef is also very nice, but has a limited range of ingredients to work with, given the location. Beers $5 US. Also no other alternative place to eat except the hotel property next door; we poked in but did not feel welcome and didn't try. They don't seem to be interested in outside business.

My wife and I went here on my honeymoon. We have nothing but good things to say about the place. It is a special experience to sleep in the jungle. In addition, Roman and the staff (who where great) did everything they could to make us feel welcome and at home. We saw lots of unique flora and fauna and highly recommend traveling into Corcovado National Park. Great food, great coffee, great people.. Not much else you could ask for! Thanks for everything, we hope to go back one day.
