Secluded in the tropical rain forest bordering Corcovado National Park, Luna Lodge is a unique resort described by many as "...a piece of true paradise". Its appeal is, not only, its natural beauty and environment, where the heliconia hang three feet long, and the howler monkeys wake you in the morning, but also, its ambiance. The owners' passion for the preservation of the forest is ever present, and the attentive courtesy, friendly staff always serve "con mucho gusto... with pleasure".

Detailed Reviews
This is a perfect place. Really of the beaten track and literally in the middle of the jungle of Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Away of literally everything. around 2 hours away from Puerto Jimenez and around 20 minutes from the closest settlement of Carate.
We hired a driver from the hotel, who was also driving us around for tours etc. Joshua was professional and always sharing couple of details about local life and flora and fauna.
Checked in by the owner of the hotel - Lana, who is really in love with her place and the nature around.
We stayed in a hacienda room, which actually resembles a normal hotel room and were happy with a choice. Hammock outside provided a great chill out throughout the day when we were not going into the jungle. Room itself is quite basic with 2 twin beds and all the basics that you may need.
Hotel is fully running on solar power, and amenities are in accordance to this. No complaints though. You got to really appreciate the way the place is run in general. Super nature and environment friendly.
It is an all inclusive property (aside of drinks), as there are literally no shops around. We were a bit worried about that and bought some food in Puerto Jimenez just in case we get hungry. We left it all in hotel as the meals were super tasty and plenty. The amazing thing is that large proportion of food is literally coming from the garden located on site. Everything super healthy and tasty. Hats off to the chef!
The way hotel is run is really prompting you to get closer to nature. Yoga classes on an amazing yoga platform with majestic view, sustainability and care for environment wherever you turn. Just splendid and shows how the local people care about the place they live.
We stayed 9 nights, although it seems that majority of guests were staying less. I would really suggest that you spend some time in this hotel. It is far more then a lodge, its a state of mind!
Lastly, all the stuff is great. Special thanks to Lana and Raquel, who were the gems when organising tours and walks. Also the local animal, dog, named Osa for providing a lot of fun while in restaurant/lobby :)
The only little complaint, that I would have is one guide that we had - Marlon. He was very knowledgable on local fauna, but weirdly enough was kinda moody in the mornings :)
Otherwise, I could not recommend this place more.

Together with another couple, my husband and I spent 3 magical days and nights at Luna Lodge. We were greeted by owner and visionary, Lana, upon our arrival. Each time we left to go exploring we were met by staff with cold water and cold towels upon our return. A staff member actually said to me, "Our goal is to make you happy." They did just that.
We stayed in a palapa. Gorgeously built and staged complete with a shower that is both indoors and outdoors. Stunning.
We left behind our laptop in our room. Lana reached out to our travel agent and made arrangements for it to delivered to our hotel in San Jose. When we arrived 2 days later, it was waiting for us. I am not sure how she did that as Carate is not close to San Jose. Luna Lodge went to extra mile, we are so grateful.
This place is very special. A place of happy.

From the minute I booked to the minute I was dropped off, the staff and owner paid attention to the smallest details and made my stay incredibly amazing. The remote location offersbeautiful seclusion with majestic views of the rain forest and ocean. The grounds are carefully maintained and a true pleasure to be in. The meals were also fantastic and well thought out. I highly recommend the guided activities and the yoga/spa as well. I simply can't imagine it being any better and look forward to my next visit.

Beautiful setting and welcoming owner and staff. I had a great stay but would probably try somewhere else next time. I think the price is a bit too much considering the condition of the tent and the quality/quantity of food. Food was good and fresh but fairly simple. Tent was clean, well constructed and kept the bugs out but didn’t in my opinion correspond to the price. Shower had a wonky shower head which I feel should definitely and easily be replaced for the cost. The tents are quite a hike up - not a problem for me but could be off putting for a lot of people. It basically means you can’t simply pop back in your room if you forgot something. It does though afford views over the trees and out to the ocean which is why they are so high. My tent overlooked the yoga pavilion so though I could see out over the forest to the water if you are sitting you have a lot of the roof of the yoga pavilion in your line of sight. As a solo traveler you need to be aware that tours only go with at least 2 people. Considering they were fully booked I didn’t think this would be a problem but a lot of people seemed to be staying multiple nights and having low key/relax days so we’re not actually booking the activities. So I had trouble being guaranteed a tour. Despite my having requested specific tours before my arrival. At no point was I told in response that they wouldn’t all be possible. It was only upon arrival that I learned I wasn’t going to be able to do everything I planned. As a result i had to regularly check in with reception to see what I could get on and finally I did reduce my stay from 4 nights to 3 nights. They easily accommodated this change. I also found the start times of activities to be a bit unclear which resulted in me missing the beginning of a tour. Not sure who is at fault on that - could easily have been me that misunderstood. In any case I would recommend double checking start times preferably with the guides rather than the reception. The guide I had throughout my stay was amazing! He pointed out the little things which I loved. And took some great photos/videos with my phone through his scope. I have visited Corcovado from Drake Bay and the quality of guiding from Luna Lodge was much better. I did 1 yoga class which was a nice treat on one of the days I was unable to get on a tour.

A beautiful place! We were looking to feel remote and in the rainforest and Luna Lodge delivered. The staff are so wonderful and accommodating. The meals were delicious (several options for breakfast, one for lunch, and buffet style dinner). We enjoyed a hike to Corcovado, the small waterfalls on the property, driving down to the beach, and kayaking the mangrove (highly recommend). The bungalows were very comfortable-we were pleasantly surprised at the lack of bugs that made it in. We started in one that overlooked the parking lot and requested a switch and the staff were very proactive in helping us. The spa was very healing. We did not notice a lack of air conditioning in the rooms-it stayed very comfortable at night with the provided fan. Pool is very comfortable and delicious cocktails are available. Overall it checked all of our boxes!

This was our second visit to Luna and certainly NOT the last. Everything about this place is perfect for those in love with nature, getting in touch with the beauty of our world and getting off the beaten path. My wife and I keep a Whole Food Plant Based diet with no added sugar, salt or oil and the kitchen team at Luna prepared perfect, delicious meals meeting this requirement throughout our entire stay.
Ever member of the staff at Luna is talented at what they do, eager to please and a joy to interact with.
We once again stayed in one of the honeymoon bungalows and loved it. Please note that while the rooms are both clean and spacious, there is no air conditioning and they are largely open air (except for the rooms in the Hacienda). This means that you will sleep with insect netting around your bed and if you are afraid of the occasional critter being in your room (e.g. large insects, lizards, etc.) then Luna Lodge is NOT for you.
Some of the activities offered by Luna that we took part in on this trip (all of which are fairly priced and fabulous)...Corcovado National Park Tour, Lagoon Kayak, Night Walk, Permaculture Farm Visit, Yoga (9 times in 11 days!), massages with Amed (he is frickin' insanely talented!!!).
Not really sure what else to say other than if you are looking to stay on the Osa in the middle of a rainforest, eat abundant, healthy food and be surrounded by a great staff who are caring and knowledgeable here simply is no place better.
Oh, and the birding and wildlife sightings are AWESOME!!

I absolutely love Luna Lodge, for me it’s a place of absolute bliss! It was my third time back and each time the experience keeps getting better even when you think it can’t get better than this.
Traveling to Luna Lodge is a fun experience, this time we flew into Carate and the lodge picked us up at the airstrip. Then we traveled through stream beds and uphill with a few twists and turns before making our way to the lodge.
The last two times we have stayed in the wonderful bungalows. This trip we chose to glamp in the tents at the very top of the property. We enjoyed an amazing evening of rain – rain in a tent is magical and we had a howler monkey for an alarm clock. The hike up to the top is a moving meditation.
The food is absolutely over the top, delicious! The atmosphere is relaxing, and should you choose there is much you can do including hikes on the property, enjoying the waterfalls, a massage, forest bathing, yoga and more!. Lana teaches a wonderful yoga class on a deck with an amazing view.
My favorite hike at Luna Lodge this trip was into the Corcovado National Park with our guide Eric. Eric was fantastic at spotting birds and mammals, showing us new functions with our cameras and he gave us a hand here and there where there was a steep up or down step. I would highly recommend Eric for any of the hikes on and around Luna Lodge. He paid attention not only to the environment but to our needs as well.
This is a place to go if you like to disconnect, relax and enjoy nature.
Thank you, Lana, for all you did to make our stay memorable.

If you need evasion, disconnection from the world, peace, nature, wilderness and an unforgettable experience, then the Luna Lodge is the place to go. This remote retreat in the middle of the wild jungle is simply bliss. If you are looking to reenergise your chakras, reunite with your self, bond with nature and all her creatures, and forget the world and its craziness, this is it.
Here you are far from pretty much everything and especially civilisation. The only noises are those coming from the jungle and yes, it’s very noisy but also incredibly soothing.
As for the lodge itself, it’s strictly eco so you may expect the little odd technicalities but as is usually the case with any other truly “eco” lodges.
The individual lodges are very comfortable, offer all essential amenities and are nicely spread across the property each with their individual porches offering breathtaking views over the jungle and the ocean.
The food at Luna Lodge is simple but exquisite (I’m French and I know what I’m talking about when it comes to food!). Although the menu is fixed daily, it is incredibly tasty with very well balanced flavours using a lot of homegrown plants and vegetables from the Luna Lodge garden.
The atmosphere at Luna Lodge is very homely. The owner, Lana Wedmore, happily shares her meals with you if you are a solo traveller like me or just keen to mix with other travellers. You could surprise yourself making some great encounters.....
In summary, here is just the perfect place to reconnect with nature, your self and spirituality.
(If you don’t like animals and nature, this place is probably not for you.)

From the accommodations to the staff and the meals, Luna Lodge is without comparison in the Osa Peninsula. You'll need to rent a proper 4 wheel drive vehicle with a high ground clearance to make it up the riverbed/road/hill, or arrange that trip with the lodge.
The bungalows are more easily accessible compared with the tents. Our bungalow was amazing with a magical indoor/outdoor shower and balcony, while the tent we moved in to for our final night was a hefty 345 steps up the steep hill. The yoga platform was my favorite feature, with stunning views of the park and its many gorgeous birds.

We absolutely loved are stay at Luna Lodge. It’s a two hour drive on a rough gravel road before you reach the final rough track road that crosses over rivers and takes you another half hour to the lodge. We saw lots of wildlife on the drive there, but it is a long journey.
We were absolutely blown away by the place when we arrived! The lodge is in the middle of the rainforest, with a gorgeous pool to cool off in, pretty bungalows, unbelievably friendly staff and delicious food and drinks!
The bungalows and tents are situated on a steep path uphill from the restaurant, so if you don’t like to climb stairs or be farther away from the dining room, ask for a Hacienda room. We were in Hacienda #9 and loved it. It is only a few steps from the dining hall, where you get a wifi connection (there is not wifi in the rooms). Hacienda #9 is on the end of the building so it has big screened windows that let the air flow through, and there is a lovely porch with rocking chairs and a hammock to enjoy, I highly recommend this room! We met people who were staying in the bungalows and they were not enjoying the steep climb to their rooms at night.
There is no air conditioning here, just ceiling fans, so the room did get hot. We used the shower to cool off before bed.
All meals are served in the big open air dining hall that faces the forest. We saw toucans, other colourful birds, and howler monkeys in the trees in front. In the morning, the howler monkeys are really noisy, which is great to hear.
You book all your excursions through the lodge. We did the kayaking in the lagoon, which was amazing, the one hour night walk, and the Corcovado hike. We saw so much wildlife and it was all incredible! The guides were the best!
The owner, Lana, comes by to each table at dinner to check on how your day was. The story of how she built this lodge is fascinating and she’s written a book about it.
Luna Lodge was definitely the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica and I highly recommend it!! We loved the half hour flight on Sansa Air, flying over the countryside to San Jimenez, the adventurous drive to the lodge, the tours we took, relaxing poolside, and the delicious food. It’s a truly amazing place and well worth the effort to get there.

It'll take you about 3 hours to drive to Luna Lodge from. Puerto Jimenez. The last bit is quite tricky especially as you cross the Carate river a few times and then ascend up a very steep gradient for the last 1 km or so.
I saw a sloth on a rainforest tour (the guide pointed it out or you’d never see it). There are no (zero) bars or anything else. This is in the middle of the rainforest—you fly in on a for seater plane or you drive (across rivers no kidding). No towns. I did not miss them. It’s quite restful.
I agree with EcoTraveler.
