#3 of 19 B&Bs / Inns in Montezuma
Welcome to Mariposario Montezuma Gardens and Butterfly Brewing Co. A lovely B&B, micro-brewery, butterfly garden, bar and restaurant in the jungle. We are located 1.6 km from Montezuma center at the entrance to the upper waterfall trail. The location is not right in town but in a tranquil area surrounded by mountain jungle. The road to the Mariposario is very steep but you do not need a 4x4 car to arrive here.

Rented an ATV for the day from Santa Teresa and made our first stop at a place called Butterfly Brewing Co inside this hotel. We stopped in for a beer and are so glad we did. The woman who works there (quite possibly the owner) was so sweet and helpful when I was trying to decide what beer to get. I ended up choosing a lemongrass one that was so refreshing! The kitchen was closed when we went so we didn’t get a chance to eat but we definitely quenched our thirst before our hike to the falls. The lady was also able to tell us a great way to walk to the falls and allowed us to park our ATV there for the day while we hiked around the falls and swam. It was a great day!

We stayed 3 nights with our 3-year-old. The staff was kind, and helpful (even gave us a lift up and down the hill a couple of times when they were headed that way). The rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean (and have AC, which is a treat in CR!). Lots of white-face & howler monkeys pass through the yard. We visited the Butterfly Gardens a few times a day with our daughter and never got tired of it. We ate in the restaurant a lot because the town is a bit of a hike, but we didn't mind because, the restaurant Clandestina, was delicious and the jungle setting is gorgeous. The in-house brews were excellent. You can hike to both entrances of the waterfalls, canapy tours, the beach, the bus stop for a visit to Cabuya or Cabo Blanco, and the boat for Tortuga Island. There's a lot to do, especially for families. Just be prepared to get physical with the hill. But, the place is worth the hill! I promise!

We're from New England and know our mico-brews....after many days of travel...la fortuna, monteverde, santa teresa....to montezuma we happened upon Butterfly Brewing and so happy we did - we hadn't had any good beer during those days and the first sip of the IPA put a smile on our faces! Wasn't dinner time so we didn't try the food but the menu looked great and the staff and owner were super nice, would highly recommend the stop.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay in the butterfly garden! We arrived a hour before check in and had a fabulous lunch at the restaurant downstairs. The food was amazing! The receptionist was very helpful. He gave us lots of recommendations and directions on the map. After lunch, he showed us to our room. Although it was small, there were lots of places to put our stuff and he even gave us an extra suitcase supporter. There was AC which was key because it was very hot while we were there! There were also big windows so you could look out to the forest. Overall, it was a wonderful stay! It was def the best deal in the area!

We didn’t stay here, but we tried the restaurant for lunch. It was very good... fish tacos and different kinds of tapas. As well they have a micro brewery - I tried the IPA... it was good. The drive up the hill to the restaurant is interesting. Very steep ...
