The owner of the hotel is a really rude person. The swimming pool was really dirty and he didn't want to cleaned.I will never come back to this place. I even had to abandon the place becouse the owner was completly irrespectfull.
We really enjoyed our time with Juan at Horizontes. It’s a lovely hideaway a short distance from the village with only a small number of rooms, a delightful swimming pool and excellent breakfast. The rooms are simple but clean and air conditioned and great value for money.
What a find! This place is our fave accommodation in Costa Rica. Amazing salt water pool, tasteful rooms, quiet AC, and tranquil garden. And the cooked breakfast is superb! Best gallo pinto we’ve had so far. The owner and staff give guests the right amount of attention. We would definitely stay here again.
The Horizontes de Monetzuma is excellent. The hotel is an old colonial style with plenty of character. It has a salt water pool and is situated within a beautiful garden which is full of wildlife. It’s a spacious and calm oasis away from the compact and busy Montezuma centre. Our room was very clean with air conditioning and a balcony overlooking the gardens and pool. The breakfast was the best we had in Costa Rica. Juan and Alex were great hosts, they were very welcoming and helpful. The only slight negative is the distance to the centre of Montezuma and the beach. It was a good 40 minute walk downhill and would take longer to get back uphill. But the taxis are cheap and Juan recommended a quad bike which worked out perfectly for getting around and allows you to see plenty of the coastline and surrounding area.…
We spent three amazing days at Horizontes. The hotel is a lovely colonial style building, and is impeccably kept, we had a first floor room with a balcony which gave great views across the gardens. It is a very peaceful retreat away from the relative bustle of Montezuma, with easy access into the centre by taxi for a fixed fare of 3000 colones. Juan and the team went over and above to make our stay as pleasant as possible, offering travel advice and providing a great breakfast daily. Would recommend sitting by the pool at sunset to watch the parrots come in to roost.
I almost hate to review this little jewel of a hotel in Montezuma because I don't want it to start being fully booked and unavailable to me. It is located a bit from town and I recommend a car. They provide a very nice breakfast but nothing more. The rooms are extremely nice and roomy. The pool is one of the most serene and relaxing places we have visited in years. I could just sit or float at the pool and watch birds, the occasional monkey and listen to the sounds of howlers in the distance. The two resident dogs are very sweet too. Don't book here if you don't like peace and quiet.
We stayed several nights here. The room was large, clean, and comfortable with a private bath. The saltwater pool was large enough to actually swim in, and situated in a beautiful garden. Breakfast was substantial and tasty. The biggest plus for this hotel was the staff, especially the owner, Juan. He really knows the area and makes excellent recommendations about activities and places to eat. He really watches out for and goes the extra mile for his guests! Cecilia, his assistant, was also very helpful. While the hotel is a bit out of town, the peaceful setting is well worth it and it’s easy to get to town by cab or by car.
I felt like home! Double room with air conditioning and own bathroom. Delicious breakfast, with lots of variety for all tastes (the best Gallo Pinto in Costa Rica!!). Absolute contact with nature, surrounded by stunning flowers and trees on its own garden. Recommended 100%!!!
My family stayed here for five days over Christmas, and we had a wonderful time! The owners (Juan and Alex) were extremely helpful, and they cooked us a large delicious breakfast every morning. Many of the things we did in Montezuma (snorkeling, surfing, Playa Grande, and restaurant reservations) would not have been possible without their help. And most of us speak very little Spanish, which was absolutely no issue as they both speak English. We loved the pool, which is far enough from the rooms so that no one is kept awake by late night/early morning swimming. We had two rooms connected by a balcony, which was perfect for hanging out. We also had a rental car, which made it easy to get into town, but the taxis were also easy, and Alex and Juan helped with that. My family is already planning our next trip to Montezuma, and we definitely plan to stay here again!…
Wonderful hotel. Owner and daughter extremely helpful. always being welcome with a smile. As Spanish, they know what is good food and gave us perfect recommendations for where to eat. This was a great culinary experience after some weeks of disappointment with Costa Ricen food. The rooms are comfortable and clear. lovely balcony with hammock, great salt water pool. Lovely generous breakfast. What didn't work was taken care of immediately. And the garden is also a gem. Staff also amazing. Little paradise
