It was a bit of a trip getting here, but so worth it. We stayed in Coco Joes and recommend it. Comfortable and rustic. (Note that the upper loft area can get a bit warm.) Watching the wildlife that patrolled the grounds was such fun --especially the monkeys! The food was good, the pool refreshing and it was a short walk to a fun town and to beaches.

It was an amazing stay! The facility and the staff were absolutely awesome. The area felt safe and there were things to do and so many areas to just relax and enjoy. I hated to leave and I'd go back in a heartbeat!

If you're looking for a luxury "glamping" experience where you feel immersed in the location, this is a great option. The staff was incredible; especially Dennis at the restaurant who even convinced my 5-year-old daughter to eat her vegetables. The food at the restaurant was amazing. While the beach is not exactly swimmable for children, the location was great. It was a short walk to Montezuma. Unfortunately, we missed sea turtle season (so couldn't see the afternoon releases) on Montezuma Beach. In the other direction there was a multi-colored pebble beach with a a series of calm pools and pretty waterfalls that my daughter loved. If you're up for a longer hike you can get to a cool little wildlife refuge. The biggest downside we found to this resort was that the walls weren't soundproof at all in the family suite/Jungle King lodge. Upstairs it felt like our neighbors were in the room with us. Fortunately my neighbors had a daughter my daughter adored, so it wasn't a huge deal, but I imagine this could be annoying to travelers. Our room (family suite) had a beautiful relaxing view through the forest of the beach. We could wake up in the mornings to howler monkeys and rainforest birds. Frogs would make fun sounds as we walked the grounds at night. It was magical. I also appreciate how great the front desk was about tours. The first one we booked was the zipline tour in Montezuma through SunTrails Montezuma. It was fantastic (especially the waterfall break in the middle). The second tour we tried to book (Sunset Cruise at Tambor Bay) they canceled because the previous night's rains made the snorkeling sub-optimal. While disappointed, I do appreciate the desk being concerned about us getting our money's worth.

I stayed six nights at the property, three nights in the treetop canopy (TTC) and three nights in Coco Joe’s. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend this place. I drove my own car. I parked at Sano Banano and I recommend that option during the rainy season. We had some heavy rains while I was there and there is a part of the road that crosses the beach that got deep washed out grooves in the sand. Note that the small parking area is behind the hotel, so when you first drive into town don’t make the left turn. Stay straight and the lot entrance is just on the left. TTC is a very cool “room/fancy tent” with a great deck. No real direct ocean views but you hear the surf. Very private. Be aware that it’s a pretty long walk from the restaurant and pool and there are a lot of steps up to the room. There were a fair amount of spiders and ants but I sort of expected that because so much of the space is open. I preferred my three nights in Coco Joe’s. It’s a more solid traditional space and has incredible direct views to the surf. The outdoor shower area is very nice. There is a front porch sitting area and a private path to the ocean. There are also two private outdoor sitting areas, one of which is covered. It’s a shorter walk to the restaurant area. I have two very minor complaints. First, after a rain the paved walkway just outside the door has a short steep downhill that gets very slick. They put a mat there but you need to take care. Second, the chaises in the outdoor sitting areas are a little old and ragged. The food at the restaurant was very very good and there are many choices on the menu. I ate mostly seafood and the chef has some real skills. The views from the restaurant are also direct to the surf. Pretty amazing place to eat and drink. The pool area is pleasant, with lots of seating and lush surroundings. Actually, the whole property has beautiful landscaping that attracts wildlife. Without exception, the staff was friendly, cheerful and always looking to help. I was traveling solo on this trip and appreciated the smiles from everyone. Eric is the “shuttle” guy to and from the car. Great guy. Alex and Jeffrey man the front desk and are always ready with advice and booking activities. I had a maintenance issue in the room and Alex arranged for it to be fixed right away. Also I asked for some laundry service and it was done same day, Darren works as a server in the restaurant and Anita is behind the bar. Both are SO upbeat and professional. I did the trail/beach walk to the end of Playa Grande several times. Go at low tide. You can swim when you get there. Don’t wear sandals on the hike if you can avoid it because the trail has many rocks and roots and can be slick. I booked the trip to Isla Tortuga with Zumba Tours. Kind of touristic but fun. Most of the time is on the boat, with two different snorkeling spots. Approximately 2 hours on the island where you can rent a chaise with umbrella. The boat ride was very pleasant with great views. I also booked through the hotel the guided nature walk at the Curu preserve. Darrell is the guide and he was fantastic. I recommend that activity. I did the hike at the Montezuma waterfall. Not worth it, especially compared to other waterfall hikes I did in CR. I tried to drive to Cabo Blanca, but had to turn around due to steep unpaved muddy roads :) There is a bakery restaurant as you walk into town, it’s the first business on the right. Great for breakfast and lunch. Ylang Ylang is a special place and deserves its great reputation and high ratings.

Eduardo picked us up in Tambor and informed us about the area, and it was easy to see that he is truly proud of this beautiful country. We met his wife and 10 year old son on one of the tours. In Montezuma, Henry picked us up in a 5 seater ATV for the short trip to the resort along the beach. Met at the resort by Jeffery, who booked us in. Our servers, soon to be friends for the week were, Anita, Patricia, Francesco, Darren and Arturo. Beautiful people all !! THANK YOU SO MUCH !! Alex at reception was very helpful. We met Emma, Moraya and their three small children, they are the owners and are wonderfully friendly. We stayed in a hillside Dome #6 and being up into the trees, we had monkeys playing feet away in the branches every day around 4:30 pm. At 4:30 am Howard the HOWLER monkey gave us our get out of bed call. The food here is better than great...people come from other resorts to eat here, so, what does that tell you ? We rented two ATV' for a half day, we are both nearly 70 years old and my wife had never driven one prior and after a few minutes, handled it like a pro. We had the best room on the resort and the lovely cleaning staff made our stay in this cosy cottage most enjoyable. Eric drove us back to Montezuma after a weeks stay, where Eduardo was waiting in his taxi. I almost forgot to mention "IGGY" the Iguana. He patrols the front grass, sits on a large rock and keeps the "Rift Raft" away. Remember to bring rain gear or a few large clear garbage bags, it will rain. YOU are in the JUNGLE. Also, remember a flashlight, holding your cell phone for light, when it is raining, may not be a good thing to do. It was a sad flight back to Canada and reality.

Ylang Ylang was everything we thought it would be and more. Emma & Moraya were amazingly helpful throughout the entire planning process and once we arrived Leslie, Leo and the rest of the stuff were just absolutely fantastic. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, we will definitely be back and there is no other place I would even consider staying at!

We loved this place! The grounds are absolutely beautiful and you really are in the jungle. The first night there were land crabs everywhere which scared the kids a little but was a fun bit of wildlife to experience, along with howler monkeys, bats, and more. The room we stayed in (standard) was very small for 4 of us, but we managed fine and spent most of our time outside anyway. The staff were all very pleasant, the food was wonderful, the views were awesome, and the beach was perfect. We walked to Montezuma Falls, Playa Grande (the front desk let us borrow a boogie board) and into Montezuma for lunch, etc. We didn't use the pool or do yoga, but it all looked fantastic. The rooms are not fancy, so for those looking for a luxury resort, this is not it. But it's a stunning place with everything we needed and we would go there again for sure.

An experience like Ylang Ylang, youll never find a gem like this location. If you wanna get away from EVERYTHING, book room G and youll be like Tarzan and Jane in a real jungle. From the guy I forget his name) who got us at the restaurant in town, who made our 1 mile journey to our hotel, was so informative. Arriving at the reception, was even more exciting. Chris i think explained everything on the property. And then a FREE breakfast, WHAT seriously free unbelievable breakfast. I can go on forever. JUST BOOK NOW and go visit.

The food, the service, the location, the ambiance, and more was a Montezuma dream! I would definitely bring back my family. Ages 12-82 enjoyed the animals that live in the jungle, the fresh menu and drinks, the friendly staff that make you feel like family, the green plants even in the dry season, the passion for environmental sustainability, and the at home feeling make Ylang Ylang Beach Resort your first choice.
